Islamic banks (IBs) have been criticized as not being genuinely Islamic, and the methods in measuring their performances have been debatable. While the literature on IBs performance has been emerging, such studies precisely assess its recent development remains absent. Therefore, we aim to evaluate the development of scholarly articles that measure IBs’ performances. We employ bibliometric analysis and sample related articles from the Scopus database. We find that the development of IBs performance literature may be understood by 111 peer-reviewed journal articles, 4 conference papers, 1 book, and 1 book series. We analyze these materials based on publication sources, country and institution affiliation, keywords association, and cluster dendrogram. Our model that quantifies the keywords association and cluster dendrogram provides a novelty in assessing IBs performance literature development. Future studies may replicate our model to cluster and identify the keyword associations from the unstructured data sources.

Research in corporate social responsibility (CSR) has long been established yet there are still new dimensions for its discussion within the Islamic perspective. This study undertakes the investigation of CSR within the Islamic banking industry utilizing the Shariah Enterprise Theory (SET). It seeks to identify whether the factors of size, profitability and shariah compliance may play role in the disclosure of CSR by Islamic banks in Indonesia. All registered Islamic banks in Indonesia publishing their annual report for the period of 2011-2016 were employed as samples of this study. The findings demonstrated that some of the sampled banks have provided extensive and informative disclosure of CSR. Simulteanously the three studied variables consisting of size, profitability and shariah compliance were found to influence the CSR disclosure. Nevertheless, partially while bank size and profitability were found to influence the CSR disclosure yet there was no influence of shariah compliance towards CSR disclosure. This gives an interesting insight for further examination in future studies

Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. However, since the Islamic banks were being established in Indonesia for about 20 years, their market share only accounts for about 5% in the Indonesian banking system. Muslim participations in using Islamic bank are relatively low. This study expands the Theory of Planned Behavior by adding the variables of religiosity and self-efficacy. Previous studies have not examined this new expanded model to analyze customers who participated in using the saving Islamic bank’s products and services. Based on 220 Islamic bank consumers who participated in the study, the study indicated that questionnaires about religiosity and self-efficacy had good external validity and could be adapted for the Indonesian culture context. The most interesting finding was that the religiosity variable strongly enhanced the use of Islamic banks. Similarly, this study found that the self-efficacy variable improved an intention of customers to participate in the Islamic banking system. This paper also discusses the implications of the findings and recommendations for future studies.

New Zealand as a representative of a non-Islamic economy holds some unique characteristics. It is small enough to test a new banking concept without many risks at the same time the results can be replicated effectively in larger economies like Australia, Canada, UK and USA. The current study uses four exploratory interviews and a robust literature review to propose frameworks for future studies in this area of knowledge. The results suggest opportunities of a market that can be a source of effective knowledge for successful market entries for Islamic banks around the world. Finding of this study may be of interest of future researchers in this area as well as managers and bankers looking for future markets of Islamic banks.

Background: Falls are a major health concern, with one in three adults over the age of 65 falling each year. A key gait parameter that is indicative of tripping is minimum foot clearance (MFC), which occurs during the mid-swing phase of gait. This is the second of a two-part scoping review on MFC literature. The aim of this paper is to identify vulnerable populations and conditions that impact MFC mean or median relative to controls. This information will inform future design/maintenance standards and outdoor built environment guidelines. Methods: Four electronic databases were searched to identify journal articles and conference papers that report level-ground MFC characteristics. Two independent reviewers screened papers for inclusion. Results: Out of 1571 papers, 43 relevant papers were included in this review. Twenty-eight conditions have been studied for effects on MFC. Eleven of the 28 conditions led to a decrease in mean or median MFC including dual-task walking in older adults, fallers with multiple sclerosis, and treadmill walking. All studies were conducted indoors. Conclusions: The lack of standardized research methods and covariates such as gait speed made it difficult to compare MFC values between studies for the purpose of defining design and maintenance standards for the outdoor built environment. Standardized methods for defining MFC and an emphasis on outdoor trials are needed in future studies.

Occupational safety and health (OSH) have constantly changed and evolved throughout the industrial revolutions and in recent years. The aim of this systematic literature review was to give an overview of future OSH challenges in industrialized countries. A search within the Scopus database returned 31 peer-reviewed journal articles published since 2014 on new and emerging OSH risks and challenges in the future. A review of articles identified future overall OSH challenges, OSH challenges caused by climate change, and OSH challenges related to sustainable development and responsibility. In addition, branch-specific challenges in industries and health care were determined. Individual employees can experience a wide range of OSH challenges from heat stress to poison absorption, musculoskeletal disorders, increased psychosocial load, ergonomic issues, and unexpected accidents and injuries. OSH management is discussed and future studies proposed.

The objective of this paper is to explore the practical application of ta’widh and gharamah in Islamic banking in Malaysia with reference to the guidelines that are applicable to date; and find out the issues detected in the implementation of them. In the course of doing this, Shariah reasons for imposing ta’widh and gharamah in Islamic banking are discussed. Also, whether ta’widh and gharamah would be required for Islamic banking with reference to possible alternatives to them is also discussed. This qualitative study primarily focuses on library research and adopts case study approach for analyzing the application of ta’widh and gharamah. The jurisdiction of the study is Malaysia because the central bank of the country has made policies on the matter. The paper draws on observations made by Shariah scholars about the policies on the subject matter. This study gives an insight into the history and issues related to ta’widh and gharamah which are often kept tacit. It is recommended that future studies should look into the effectiveness of these two approaches to serve as a deterrent factor and contribute to the declining rate of non-performing financing in Islamic banks.

Abstract: The rapid development of the number of islamic banks should be balanced with the availability of infrastructure to carry out daily operational practices. The operational tools include hardware as like as representative office, computerized system, reliable human resources and software as like as method, culture and financial and islamic banking knowledge. In terms of development of Islamic finance is the paper "Alternative Calculation of Return Shahibul Mal on Mudharabah Scheme on Bank Syariah" was written. During this calculation of return shahibul mal has not been standardized in a formula, thus causing two serious effects. First, in the theoretical level, the formula has not yet created a difficulty. Secondly, in practical level, the formula is not impressive enough to recalculate the complexity of return calculations obtained by shahibul mall, causing laziness of the community using the services of islamic bank. This paper using mathematical and arithmetic equations with the help of modeling made by the author to refine and improve the method of calculation that has been available. The purpose of this paper is to create a standard formula that facilitates the calculation of return earned by a shahibul mal in a mudaraba scheme in a islamic bank.

The present paper aims to assess the Islamic products potential demand for entrepreneurs in the Tunisian Northwest region. In order to do so, we developed a questionnaire which was sent to these entrepreneurs. The survey results show that the latter perceive Islamic Finance as a seductive phenomenon. However, its development appears to be difficult. Indeed, according to the survey results, the lack of knowledge may impede the expansion of Islamic banking in Tunisia. Moreover, the following factors: cost, religious conviction, proximity, flexibility and satisfaction of the needs, may affect the entrepreneurs' choice to deal with Islamic financial institution. In addition, the lack of entrepreneurs' confidence with regard to the compliance of Islamic banking with the Shariah principles has a negative effect on Islamic finance development in the Tunisian Northwest region. For this reason, Tunisian Islamic banks should put more effort to reinforce their competitiveness.
