Some problems are faced by students in reading of English text. The interesting strategy is needed to teach them. Story Pyramid Strategyis one of strategies to teach reading comprehension. This strategy forces students to review and summarize the main points of a story. The research aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using story pyramid strategy in teaching  narrative text toward students’ reading comprehension was conducted in SMAN 1 Serang. The research design of this reseacrh was quasi experimental research with quantitative approach. The  research  finding  showed  that  Story Pyramid  Strategy  is  effective in  teaching  narrative  text  toward  students’ reading comprehension to Senior High School.

In this study, the researcher used LRD strategy on narrative text to research The Influence of Using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy towards Students’ Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text at The Eleventh Grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong. This research was quantitative research. The researcher used quasi experimental research design. From the data analysis, the objective of this study is to know whether or not there is any significant influence of Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong. Based on the data analysis, there is a significant influence of using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong after the strategy was applied.

Being able to read in English is very important. Success in reading is the most necessary because it is a basic tool of education. Based on the syllabus of Islamic Senior high School Hidayatul Mubtadiin (MAHM), it is hoped that students should comprehend monolog texts in narrative, spoof and hortatory exposition forms well. After doing preliminary observation at MAHM, some of the students of the second year still had low ability in their reading comprehension. The dominant factors influencing their low reading comprehension are the lack of vocabulary and teaching strategy of reading comprehension. From the two of dominant factors, the researcher is interested to investigate about teaching reading comprehension. Thus, the researcher conducted a research on the effect of Multipass strategy on Reading comprehension. This research investigates students’ reading comprehension taught by using multipass strategy at MAHM Siak Sri Inderapura. The design of this study was Quasi-experimental research by post-test only. The subject of this research was the second year students of MAHM. The total population was 42 students, and the sample was 42 students. Data were collected by using a test. Then, the data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that there was a significant effect of using multi pass strategy on students’ reading comprehension at MAHM.

In teaching reading, teaching strategy and reading motivation influences students’ reading comprehension. Strategy which was used in this quasi experimental research is Listen Read Discuss. It can be used as a variation of teaching strategy in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text. The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of using Listen Read Discuss and students’ reading motivation on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. This research was an experimental research with factorial design two by two. It was conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. Population of this research was second grade students with the total population was 137. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling; the total number of sample was 52 (26 students in II.1 class and 26 students in II.2 class). The results of this research are, first, the students who were taught by using Listen Read Discuss had better result on reading comprehension of descriptive text than the students who were taught by using small group discussion. Second, the students with higher reading motivation who were taught by Listen Read Discuss had better reading comprehension of descriptive text than those who are taught by using small group discussion. Third, students with lower reading motivation who are taught by Listen Read Discuss had better reading comprehension of descriptive text than those who are taught by using small group discussion. Fourth, there was no interaction between both techniques and students’ reading motivation on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. In conclusion, Listen Read Discuss can be used as a teaching strategy in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru. For further researcher, they are suggested to do more research dealing with this strategy on other skills and others kinds of text.

This research deals with the effect of using skimming method in teaching reading comprehension  smk negeri 2 pematangsiantar on narrative text. The problem of this research are “what is the students’ ability in reading  without using skimming method at Grade XI students’ of SMK N.2 Pematangsiantar. What is the students’ ability in reading by using skimming method at Grade XI students’ of SMK N.2”. The purpose of this research are to find out the students’ ability in reading without using skimming method at grade XI students in SMK N 2 Pematangsiantar on reading narrative  text, to find out the the students ability in reading by using skimming method to the skill of grade XI students in SMK N 2 Pematangsiantar on reading narrative text. To answer the problem the researchers uses theories: Micklukey and Jefferies (2007), Grellet (2000), Milter (2001), Jhon and Dara (2005), David Nunan (1991), Douglas Newton (2000), Douglas Brown (2003), Rae Pica (2000), Roger Brown (1973), Ronald Carter (1998), Scoot Thornburry (2002), Wilga Rivers (1987), Diane Larsen (1990), Judi Willis (2008), Jack and Theodore (1986). The research design is a quantitative research. As an experimental research, it aims to know the effect of the technique that given and apply whether it influences to the object or no. In this research in collecting the data the researcher has to do three steps, they are pre-test, treatment, post-test. The researchers find out that the effect of using skimming method can increase the students’ skill in reading of narrative text. It can be proven from the test of students’ score in posttest of experimental class which the treatment the researchers did the treatment by using skimming method. By using skimming method, the students can increase their ability in reading of narrative text.

This research was aimed to find out whether there was significant effect of using read, cover, remember and retell (RCRR) strategy on students’ English reading comprehension. The design was a quasi-experimental research. The sample consisted of 60 students; 30 students for experiment group and 30 students for control group. The instrument was reading test which comprised 30 multiple choice (4 options) question with r=0,86 .The research finding were as follows; 1). RCRR strategy affected students’ reading comprehension in whole reading comprehension RCRR strategy affected students’ reading comprehension in various aspect of reading comprehension, 2). RCRR strategy affected the students’ reading comprehension in the aspect of finding main idea, 3).RCRR strategy affected the students’ reading comprehension in the aspect of making inference, 4).RCRR strategy affected the students’ reading comprehension in the aspect of understanding vocabulary and determining reference. However, RCRR strategy did not affect the students’ reading comprehension in the aspect of identifying specific information. Further study is recommended for medical school.

Conventional strategy can be used as teaching strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The purpose of this research was to find out whether the students who are taught by conventional strategy have better reading comprehension of narrative text than those who are not taught by conventional strategy. This research was an experimental research with factorial design 2x2. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Talamau Pasaman Barat. The population of this research was eleventh grade social science students with total population of 40 students. The sample was taken by using total sampling; so all of population was taken as sample. XI IPS 2 was experimental class and XI IPS 1 as control class. The instruments of this research were reading comprehension test and questionnaire. The data was analyzed by two ways ANOVA (ANOVA 2x2). The results of this research are (1) Reading comprehension of students who are taught by conventional strategy is not better than reading comprehension of students who are not  taught by conventional strategy. Fo = 196.582 > Ft = 2.69, it means that Ha is rejected.

Questioning strategy can be used as a variation of teaching strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of questioning strategy and students’ motivation toward reading comprehension of narrative text. This research was an experimental research with factorial design 2x2. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Talamau Pasaman Barat. The population of this research was eleventh grade social science students with total population of 40 students. The sample was taken by using total sampling; so all of population was taken as sample. XI IPS 2 was experimental class and XI IPS 1 as control class. The instruments of this research were reading comprehension test and questionnaire. The data was analyzed by two ways ANOVA (ANOVA 2x2). The results of this research are (1) Reading comprehension of students who are taught by questioning strategy is better than reading comprehension of students who are taught by conventional strategy. Fo = 196.582 > Ft = 2.69, it means that Ha is accepted. (2) There is no interaction between strategy and students’ motivation toward reading comprehension. Fo = 0.012 < Ft = 2.69, it means that Ha is rejected. When no interaction is present it means that these two strategies did not influence each other so we do not need to continue for hypothesis 3 and hypothesis 4. In short; questioning strategy can be used as a teaching strategy in teaching reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 1 Talamau Pasaman Barat. Other researchers are suggested to do futher research about questioning strategy dealing with of the skills.

Reciprocal Teaching Strategy has proven as a good method in increasing students reading comprehension. This method has been applied in teaching in elementary school students, ESL (English as Second Language) and EFL (English as Foreign Language) contexts. The researcher doing a research about the implementation of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy to increase students reading comprehension. The objective of this  research is to find out whether Reciprocal Teaching Strategy is Effective in Increasing Students Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text and to know how Reciprocal Teaching Strategy enhance students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. This research use a quantitative method Quasi Experimental Design. The data is analyzed by the researcher using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The subject are eighth grade one of the State Junior High School of Surabaya. This research done for about one month from 20th January until 22nd February 2018. Reciprocal Teaching Strategy has 4 steps in it, such as: Predicting, Questioning, Clarifying, and Summarizing. This strategy is effective for students’ cognitive process in reading that prevent from failure and the result showed Reciprocal Teaching is Effective In Reading Narrative Text, it can be seen from the significant improvement of students score of pretest to post test.

This study attempts to discover the effect of applying Personal Experiences Strategy on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the tenth (X) grade students of SMA N 6 Padangsidimpuan  which consists of 10 parallel classes with the total number of students is 64. The samples of this research were taken by random sampling through lottery technique. The result was class X1 consisted of 32 students became the experimental group and class X2 consisted of 32 students became the control group. The experimental group was taught by Personal Experiences Strategy while the control group was taught by using Big group work strategy. The instrument was used to collect the data was writing narrative text. After the data were analyzed, it was found that the value of t-observed was 4.25 with the degree of freedom (df) = 62 at the level significance 0.05. it means that t-observed was higher than t-table (4.25 > 1.997. The result of this study showed that teaching narrative text by using personal experiences strategy was higher than that by big group work. Keywords : Using Personal Experiences Strategy.
