The study was an attempt to investigate the level of awareness on Metacognitive reading strategies among first year Ethiopian EFL students.  It  also  tried  to  figure  out  the  possible  relationship  between  Metacognitive reading strategies  use  and  reading comprehension achievement.  Ninety-four EFL learners participated  in  the  study.  Metacognitive reading strategy inventory and reading comprehension test were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics to determine the mean value of strategies employed by the learners. Moreover, Pearson correlation coefficient  was  used  to discover  the  association  between  reading  strategy  use  and  reading  comprehension  achievement. According  to  the  findings  Ethiopian  EFL  learners ,were almost near to the lower limit (M=2.55,Sd.=0.34)line of medium level reading strategy users. Furthermore, the use of metacognitive reading strategy had weak correlation (r=0.21,p=0.039) with reading  comprehension achievement. The possible cause of this could be lack of awareness on how to regulate and monitor reading comprehension.

English for Informatics Engineering (EIE, hereafter) is significantly requisite for tertiary students. Since EIE is one of English for Specific Purposes (ESP, hereafter) branches, it has particular inescapable characteristics. Teaching materials for EIE should be composed and delivered based on those attributes. Although the materials can be adapted from various resources, developing materials for EIE should definitely follow pedagogical standardized procedures. This article aims to present how material development for EIE is designed based on need analysis results described in a previous research (Nimasari, 2018) and developed according to a specific ESP teaching approach. This current study is a further examination of need analysis results implemented in a coursebook for Informatics Engineering students in a private university in Indonesia. As a part of research and development project research, this study focuses on developing preliminary form of product that includes a prototype of EIE coursebook development. A text-based instruction is utilized as a basis approach to design the EIE material. The results of this preliminary product are four lessons of EIE materials. While one lesson will be presented thoroughly in the discussion, the other three lessons will be attached in the appendix.

This study focuses on two pre-reading strategies: vocabulary pre-teaching and comprehension question presentation. Researchers have claimed that a vocabulary strategy is less effective than any other pre-reading strategy. This study investigates whether their claim is true of Japanese university students. The purpose of the study is twofold. The first goal is to examine the effects of the two pre-reading strategies; the second is to discuss the relationships between students’ English proficiency and their reading comprehension. The participants in the present study were asked to perform a pre-reading strategy, read a passage, and then answer comprehension questions. They read four passages altogether. Three weeks after they read the fourth passage, they were asked to answer a questionnaire. This study indicates that vocabulary pre-teaching is less effective for Japanese students, although students with higher English proficiency outperformed lowerlevel students regardless of which pre-reading strategy they used.
