Tobacco Generally farmers in Lombok apply single fertilizer of ZA or Urea (as a source of N), and SP36 (as source of P), without combining with K and Mg fertilizers. The fertilizers are added more than twice with unappropriates doses. Application of compound fertilizer might increase growth, yield and quality of Virginia fc tobacco at Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, because the fertilizer consists of NPK macro nutrients which have important role for tobacco. The experiment was carried out at Kopang Rembiga village, Kopang District in 2014. The objective to was identify the effect of NPKMg compound fertilizer on growth, yield and quality of Virginia tobacco. Split Plot Design with three replicates was used to arrange treatments. Three varieties of Virginia tobacco (Coker 176, Coker 319 and NC 297) were set as main plots, and three rates of NPKMg fertilizer (60, 80 and 100 kg N/ha) were arranged as sub plots. Results showed that increasing of NPKMg fertilizer up to 100 kg N/ha increased growth, yield and quality of three varieties of Virginia tobacco. Addition of 100 kg N/ha NPKMg (100 kg N+ 60 kg P2O5 + 133 kg K2O + 13.34 kg MgO per hectare) gave the highest values of grade index and crop index of three varieties, thus the fertilizer could be recommended for Virginia tobacco in Lombok.

There is dearth of information pertaining to hydroponics production of zucchini in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of hydroponics systems on growth, yield and nutritional content of zucchini. The research was conducted in three greenhouses of the Horticulture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Luyengo Campus at the University of Eswatini between July and October 2018. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design replicated four times. Three hydroponics systems were used as the main plots, i.e. elevated tray, ground lay bed and Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) systems. The sub-plots were allocated to the three varieties, i.e., Amanda, Hygreen and Terminator. The zucchini grown in elevated tray hydroponics system had the highest yield in all the varieties compared to the other hydroponics systems. The results showed that there were significant differences in the growth, yield and nutritional content of zucchini cultivars grown in the different hydroponics systems. The tallest plants (26.1cm) were obtained in cultivar Terminator grown in the elevated tray system and the highest number of leaves (15) was obtained in cultivar Terminator grown in the elevated tray system. Cultivar Terminator grown in the elevated tray system had the highest total yield (15.8 tons/ha) while Hygreen plants produced in the NFT system recorded the lowest total yield (1.04 tons/ha). There were no significant differences in the iron content of zucchini among the cultivars grown in the different hydroponics systems. The results of this study revealed that different zucchini cultivars responded differently when grown in the different hydroponics systems. Therefore based on the results of this study it is recommended that Terminator zucchini cultivar can be produced in the elevated tray hydroponics system.

Rootstocks in various species have been shown to significantly influence vigor of scion growth, yield, fruit size, maturity, quality, and other phenomena. This research studied the effects of combinations of three scions and three rootstocks of Iranian pistachio on characteristics of fruit. A split-plot design was laid out at Rafsanjan/Iran in 1993 and results for a period of 2 years from 1994 to 1995 are presented. Diameter of trunk 5 cm above and below the graft area, weight of nuts with hull, weight of nuts without hull, weight of in-shell nuts, weight of blank, percent of shell splitting and total yield weight were measured. Almost all the treatment differences in the experiment were associated with rootstock effects and not scions. Statistical analysis indicated that different scions had no effect on any of the measured characteristics except the diameter of trunk 5 cm below the graft area. Rootstocks, however, had large and significant effects on all the characters except percent shell splitting. Interactions between scion and rootstock were important such that the combination of the scion `Kalehghochi' with the rootstock `Ahli' gave substantially higher yields than any other combination.

Mineral nutrients are essential to plant growth and development. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of mineral fertilizer doses and N:P:K ratio on growth, yield, and raw material quality of the tea variety PH10 to improve the production of high-quality tea products. The field experiment was conducted from 2015 to 2017. A two-factor experiment was designed by split-plot design with three replications. The mainplot treatments were three fertilizer doses of N  for one metric ton of fresh shoot products (30, 40, and 50 kg N ha-1). The subplot treatments were two NPK ratios (3:1:1 and 3:1:2). Plant height, leaf canopy, plant diameter, shoot yield parameters, shoot components, biochemical compounds, and sensory quality for Oolong and Sencha tea products were evaluated. The results showed that increasing fertilizer doses from 30 up to 40 kg N per ton of fresh product improved remarkably growth, yield, and tea quality of PH10 variety. Different fertilizer ratios resulted in variations in plant growth, the content of carbohydrate, sensory quality for taste and flavor as well as total sensory quality with higher values at NPK ratio of 3:1:2. Applying mineral fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 3:1:2 and 40kg N per ton of fresh shoot products was recommended to bring about the most benefits of tea yield and quality as well as economic profit.

Water pumping restrictions of high-quality irrigation water from underground aquifers is affecting vegetable production in Southwest Texas. There is a need to develop efficient deficit-irrigation strategies to minimize irrigation inputs and maintain crop profitability. Our objective was to determine how growth, yield, and quality of cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L. cv. `Caravelle') are affected by irrigation systems with varying input levels, including drip depth position and polyethylene mulch. Stand establishment systems used were containerized transplants and direct seeding. Field experiments were conducted on a Uvalde silty clay loam soil. Marketable yields increased in the order of pre-irrigation followed by: dry-land conditions, furrow/no-mulch, furrow/mulch, drip-surface (0 cm depth)/mulch, drip-subsurface (10-cm depth)/mulch, and drip-subsurface (30 cm depth)/mulch. Pooled across all drip depth treatments, plants on drip had higher water use efficiency than plants on furrow/no-mulch or furrow/mulch systems. Transplants with drip-surface produced 75% higher total and fruit size No. 9 yields than drip-subsurface (10- or 30-cm depth) during the first harvest, but total yields were unaffected by drip tape position. About similar trends were measured in a subsequent study except for a significant irrigation system (stand establishment interaction for yield. Total yields were highest for transplants on drip-subsurface (10-cm depth) and direct seeded plants on drip-subsurface (10 and 30 cm depth) with mulch.

In agricultural production, nitrogen loss leads to economic loss and is a high environmental risk affecting plant growth, yield, and quality. Use of the N fertilizer with a urease inhibitor is thus necessary to minimize N losses and increase the efficiency of N. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of N-(n-butyl) Thiophosphoric Triamide (NBPT) on the growth, yield, and quality of pineapple. The experiment involved two foliar fertilizer treatments: 1% (w/v) urea solution with NBPT (2.25 mL kg−1 urea) was treated as NLU (NBPT Liquid Urea), and the same concentration of urea without NBPT served as the control. Both were applied 12 times, starting 1 month after planting (MAP) and continuing once a month for 12 months. The application of urea with NBPT notably increased the above-ground dry biomass per plant (20% and 10% at 8 and 12 MAP, respectively), leaf area per plant (23% and 15% at 8 and 12 MAP, respectively), N accumulation per plant (10%), PFPN (Partial Factor Productivity) (13%), and average fruit weight (15%) compared to the treatment with urea alone (control). The analysis of quality parameters indicated that urea with NBPT improves TSS (Total Soluble Solids) (19%), ascorbic acid (10%), and sucrose (14%) but reduces the total organic acid content (21%) in pineapple. When using urea with a urease inhibitor (NBPT), there was a significant improvement in growth, yield, quality, and nitrogen use efficiency, with the additional benefit of reduced nitrogen losses, in combination with easy handling. Hence, urea with a urease inhibitor can be used as a viable alternative for increasing pineapple yield by boosting growth with better fruit quality.
