Extensive evaluation of 76 women with polycystic ovary syndrome compared with 25 fertile women as control group was achieved by routine investigations and hormonal study of each female which were done in one period during the menstrual cycle. Then the women with PCOS have been divided into 2 groups according to their menstrual cycle (irregular menstrual cycle) during assessing their hormonal profiles as follow:- 1- (54) Patients with oligomenorrhea. 2- (22) Patients with menorrhea. This study shows that the women with PCOs have different clinical features taken from a history of disease of all of the women. Those features were distributed as follow: 57.92% of them suffer from hirsutism. 19.24% suffer from irregular menstrual cycle, obesity in 67%, 9 patient with acne vulgaris, and more than 50% of them have most of the clinical symptoms at same time. It is also found that the hormonal disorder is the main cause of this disease with other cawes.

Background. E-cadherin is known as one of the endometrial receptivity biomarkers. Objective: to conduct a comparative analysis of the endometrial E-cadherin expression in healthy fertile women and patients with reproductive dysfunctions with the ovulatory menstrual cycle.Design and methods. The main group consisted of patients with infertility (n = 81) and early pregnancy loss (n = 40), the control group — of 16 healthy fertile women. All subjects underwent endometrial biopsy and venipuncture to receive peripheral blood sample (to determine estradiol and progesterone levels) at 6–8 days after ovulation. Endometrial specimens were assessed by histological and immunohistochemical (evaluation of e-cadherin expression) methods.Results. In patients with reproductive failure, the frequency of apparent E-cadherin expression in the luminal (89 %, n = 84 out of 94) and glandular (74 %, n = 89 out of 121) epithelium did not differ from the corresponding indicators in fertile women (luminal epithelium — 94 %, n = 15 out of 16, gland — 88 %, n = 14 out of 16) (p > 0.05 for all indicators). The frequency of reduced E-cadherin endometrial expression was similar in patients of the main group with complete secretory transformation of the endometrium (1), incomplete secretory transformations (2) and in healthy women (3): respectively in the luminal epithelium — 7 % (n = 3 out of 43) (1), 14 % (n = 7 out of 52) (2), 6 % (n = 1 out of 16) (p > 0.05); in the glands — 20 % (n = 10 out of 51) (1), 31 % (n = 22 out of 70) (2), 13 % (n = 2 out of 16) (3) (p > 0.05).Conclusion. In patients with the history of reproductive disfunctions freaquency of lower/higher E-cadherin expression was similar to those in healthy fertile women.

OBJECTIVE: Although androgenic alopecia is recognised to be a symptom of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), it is not known whether polycystic ovaries (PCO) and associated endocrine abnormalities are present in patients who present with alopecia as a primary complaint. We therefore set out to determine the strength of the association between androgenic alopecia and PCO. We examined the prevalence of ultrasound-based polycystic ovarian morphology and associated clinical and biochemical features in a large multiethnic group of women whose presenting complaint was of alopecia, and in a control group. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We studied 89 women of mixed ethnic origin with androgenic alopecia and compared them to 73 control women. A detailed history was taken, anthropometry was performed and assessment of body-hair distribution was made. The presence of PCO was established by pelvic ultrasound scan. Serum gonadotrophins, testosterone, androstenedione, dihydrotestosterone and sex hormone binding globulin concentrations were measured. RESULTS: Women with alopecia had a higher prevalence of PCO and hirsutism than the control population (PCO: 67% vs 27%, P<0.00001; hirsutism: 21% vs 4%, P=0.003). Women with alopecia (with or without PCO) had higher testosterone, androstenedione and free androgen index than controls, even though few had frankly abnormal androgens. CONCLUSIONS: These findings confirm an association between androgenic alopecia and PCO, and other symptoms of hyperandrogenaemia. Thus most women who present with androgenic alopecia as their primary complaint also have PCO and have indices of abnormal androgen production. Since PCO is a well known risk factor for development of type 2 diabetes, this association has important implications for long-term management.

AbstractOrbital schwannomas are rare, presenting a rate of incidence between 1 and 5% of all orbital lesions. Their most common clinical symptoms are promoted by mass effect, such as orbital pain and proptosis. The best complementary exam is the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which shows low signal in T1, high signal in T2, and heterogeneous contrast enhancement. The treatment of choice is surgical, with adjuvant radiotherapy if complete resection is not possible. We report the case of a 24-year-old male patient with orbital pain and proptosis, without previous history of disease. The MRI showed a superior orbital lesion compatible with schwannoma, which was confirmed by biopsy after complete resection using a fronto-orbital approach.

A comparative analysis of the levels of estradiol and progesterone in the blood, immunohistochemical parameters of estrogen receptors and progesterone in endometrium in women with a history of reproductive disorders is presented. It was found that all women had an ovulatory ovarian cycle, levels of estradiol and progesterone in the blood were within the reference values. In women with reproductive failures in the history (n=107), four types of hormone-receptor response in the endometrium were identified. In 46 (43%) women, the first (normoreceptor) type of endometrial response was detected, without significant differences from the control group (n=15) corresponding to the middle stage of the secretion phase. Hyperreceptor (hyper-estrogen-progesterone-receptor, hyper-estrogen-receptor, hyper-progesterone-receptor) types have been identified in 61 patients (57%) with reproductive dysfunctions. The endometrium corresponded to the mid secretory phase was detected in 47 (44%), inadequate secretory phase of the endometrium - in 60 (56%) women with reproductive failures in the anamnesis. All women in the control group had a full secretory change in the endometrium. In general, more than half (61 (57%)) of women with reproductive failures in the history with the ovulatory menstrual cycle with normal values of the level of progesterone in the blood showed signs of a decreased endometrial receptivity status. This indicates that the ovulatory level of progesterone in the blood is not an unconditional predictor of full secretory transformations of the endometrium.

Objective: To compare effectiveness of clomiphene alone and in combinationwith metformin in terms of conception rate in patients presenting with polycystic ovary syndrome.Study Design: Randomized clinical trail. Place and duration of study: Department Obstetricsand Gynecology Unit I, Nishtar Hospital Multan, 6 months from 12th September 2009 to 11thMarch 2010. Methodology: Primary subfertile women visiting outpatient department of NishtarHospital Multan with significant irregular menstrual cycle, oligo menorrhea and ultrasonographicfeatures of polycystic ovaries were enrolled in the study. Semen samples from male partners wereanalyzed according to the WHO criteria. Women whose partner’s semen analysis was abnormalwere excluded from study. Group ‘A’ was given clomiphene citrate alone and second group (i.e.group B) was given colmiphene citrate and metformin. All patients were followed till six cycles forregularity of menstrual cycle (determined by history) ovulation by follicular tracking onultrasonography, if patient (conceived), conception was confirmed by urine pregnancy test andgestational sac on ultrasonography pelvis. Final outcome was measured at six month.Information was entered in specifically designed proforma. Results: Frequency of PCOS was14.05%. Mean age of the patients was 31.03 ± 0.58 vs. 29.89 ± 0.53 years in group A and Brespectively. Oligomenorrhea was present in 18(50%) vs. 18 (50%) women, amenorrhea in7(19.4%) vs. 8(22.2%) patients and weight gain in 14(38.9%) vs. 15(41.7%) cases in group A andB respectively. Conception was achieved in 26(72.2%) vs. (18(50.0%) patients in group A and Brespectively. Conclusions: Metformin does not seem to help in achieving higher rates ofpregnancy when combined with CC as compared to CC alone.

We hypothesized that in individuals with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, the first vaccine dose would work as a booster, eliciting a faster and more intense immune response. We herein describe antibody responses to the first and second doses of Gam-COVID-Vac (SPUTNIK V) vaccine in health personnel of Tucuman, Argentina, with previous COVID-19 and compared it with uninfected personnel. Individuals with anti-SARS-CoV-2 titers at baseline showed significantly higher responses to the first dose than people with no prior history of disease (p <0.0001), with titers higher to those registered after the second dose in the control group, representing a clear secondary antibody response. This suggests that a single dose of SPUTNIK V for people with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection could contribute to a better use of available doses.

INTRODUCTION Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common causes of anovulation, infertility and hyperandrogenism, and the prevalence of this condition in women of reproductive is 5-10%. The growth of early ovarian antral follicles is arrested and dominant follicle selection is disturbed in this syndrome. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to investigate whether inhibin B serum concentrations represent the extent of ovarian abnormalities in patients with PCOS. METHOD Inhibin B serum concentrations on the third day of spontaneous menstrual cycle and other endocrine characteristics were compared between 20 patients with PCOS and 19 healthy women in the control group. RESULTS Inhibin B concentrations were not significantly different between women with PCOS and women in the control group. In patients with PCOS there was statistically significant correlation between serum inhibin B and LH (r=0.514; p=0.021). There were no positive correlations between inhibin B and others endocrine parameters in patients with PCOS (FSH, E2, T, androstenedione). CONCLUSION Inhibin B serum concentrations on the third day of spontaneous menstrual cycle in women with PCOS are not different from the concentrations in healthy women. Serum Inhibin B levels in patients with PCOS are only slightly correlated with the endocrine markers of the disease so it could not represent the magnitude of ovarian dysfunction in this syndrome.

Protection of reproductive health of adolescents and youth, i.e., individuals aged 15 to 24 years, is a primary goal of a family planning service as according to WHO estimations (1995), the youth aged 15 to 24 years makes over 14% of the overall population in developed countries.Disorders of a menstrual cycle take a leading place among gynaecologic pathologies of adolescent girls. At the same time, according to WHO data, about 30% of schoolchildren suffer from iron deficiency anemia, which takes one of the first places in the structure of somatic pathologies. On the basis of maternity welfare centre No. 2, 2,456 girls aged 15 to 18 years were examined, and the frequency of occurrence and structure of disorders of a menstrual cycle was studied. In addition to standard methods of examination, all patients undertook USI of small pelvis organs; indicators of a hormonal status, complete blood test, transport fund, and iron stocks were investigated. The study included 285 girls, with various disorders of a menstrual cycle, who had no history of iron deficiency states and exacerbation of chronic diseases. The control group included 69 adolescent girls with a regular menstrual cycle. The most common type of disorder of a menstrual cycle in subjects examined was dysmenorrhea I. Iron deficiency anaemia was found in 5.3% of the subjects examined. The frequency of occurrence of moderate anaemia and latent deficiency of iron of 46.7% and 11.9%, respectively, attracts our attention. Well-timed diagnostics of the states mentioned in adolescent girls can prevent subsequent development of reproductive and somatic pathologies.

Abstract Background Metabolic syndrome (MS) in adolescents is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Objective The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of MS in 14–18-year-old girls. Methods This analytical case-control study was conducted on 3200 high school students with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS was confirmed by an endocrinologist after detection of clinical hyperandrogenism (acne, hirsutism and alopecia) and oligomenorrhea, rejection of hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia and performance of abdominal sonography. In the second stage, the prevalence of MS was compared between 70 girls with PCOS and 45 healthy girls using the ATPIII, Cooki and Ferranti scales. The study data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, body mass index (BMI) graph, the WC graph and standard blood pressure graph in adolescents. Then, the data were analyzed using the t-test and the χ2-test. Results Based on the Ferranti scale, the prevalence of MS was 10.4% and 0% in the case and control groups, respectively. The highest prevalence was related to hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovaries phenotype (11.6% vs. 0%, p = 0.05). Based on the Cooki and ATPIII scales, the prevalence of this disorder was 4.1% in the case group and 0.67% in the control group, with the highest rate being related to hyperandrogenism, oligomenorrhea and polycystic ovaries phenotype (7.5% vs. 0%, p = 0.28). Conclusion In comparison to the control group, the prevalence of MS in the patients with PCOS was 10-fold higher according to the Ferranti scale and nearly 3.5-fold higher based on the Cooki and ATPIII scales. Thus, long-term follow-up is suggested in these patients.
