Archaeological, geological, and paleoecological investigations supported by radiocarbon dating enabled us to present a reconstruction of chronologically based paleoenvironmental and human activity changes in the Šventoji region, NW Lithuania, during the period 4000–800 cal BC. In addition, we describe the main stages of the Late Glacial and Holocene periods in the area. The Baltic Ice Lake regression was succeeded by a terrestrial period until the Littorina Sea maximal transgression at 5700–5400 cal BC. A marine bay with brackish water was transformed into a freshwater lagoon before the oldest archaeological evidence of human presence, i.e. 4000/3700 cal BC. However, the presence of Cerealia type and Plantago lanceolata pollen dating back to about 4400–4300 cal BC suggests earlier farming activities in the area. Pollen analyses show the minor but continuous role of cereal cultivation after 3250 cal BC. Due to the predominance of the boggy landscape in the immediate vicinity of the Šventoji sites, agricultural fields were situated further away from the sites themselves. Exploitation of remote areas of the freshwater basin by diverse fishing gear was proven by the discovery of a new fishing site, Šventoji 41 (2900–2600 cal BC). This finding together with data of previous research suggest a complex and elaborate coastal economy involving seal hunting and year-round freshwater fishing during the 3rd millennium cal BC. A decline in human activity is seen in the pollen diagram after 1800 cal BC, which could be due to significant environmental changes, including overgrowth of the freshwater lagoon basin with vegetation.

The purpose of this research was to analyze the issues and problems in lobster fisheries for establishing strategies to achieve sustainable lobster management. This study was conducted from November 2018 to January 2019 in coastal waters of Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province. Data collection were made using the triangulation method. In addition, data analyses were performed using AWOT (Analythical Hierarchy Procedure and Strenght-Weakness-Opportunity-Threats) which was the combination of SWOT and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) techniques. The results showed that the problems of lobster management in Wonogiri Regency was the unreported catch and the unwillingness to release small-size- and berried-female lobsters. The best strategy for lobster management in Wonogiri Regency was shown in the 2nd quadrant (strategi Strength-Threats). Thus, the priority strategies would be the development of friendly lobster fishing gear with score a value 35.4% and the second priority is strengthening the role of collectors in controlling catches with a value of 30.5%.

Ships propulsion systems consisting of diesel engines and reduction gears are popular due to the ability of the internal combustion engine to operate on the less-expensive heavy fuels. This paper highlights system torsional design considerations that heretofore may not have been appreciated or recognized. Diesel engine misfiring and torsional coupling stiffness variables are addressed to show these effects on shaft stresses and gear overload. The role of the computer in monitoring and recording actual torsional vibration data is presented.

The paper gives an account of the way in which the results of fundamental studies of the lubrication mechanism in gears are now being incorporated in gear design procedures. The background to elastohydrodynamic lubrication is summarized and the importance of film thickness calculation is noted. The role of the lubricant in gear lubrication and its effect upon scuffing and pitting are considered. The importance of a film thickness ratio in determining the resistance to both forms of surface distress is emphasized. An improvement in surface durability is likely to lead to important increases in the ratings of many gear sets. The results of many years of research work on gear lubrication can now be embodied in design procedures for the optimization of resistance to scuffing and pitting, and the designer should be encouraged to treat the lubricant as an engineering material and a component in the gear system.

Increasing regulations, bycatch restrictions, and concerns over ecosystem impact are now the driving forces for much of the development in fishing gear design occurring world-wide. Industry, government, and universities have responded to these challenges with major advancements in computer aided design, simulation, physical modeling techniques, and world-class testing facilities. Model studies are a critical step in the development of new fishing gears and flume tanks are the de facto standard for investigating their attributes and performance under controlled conditions. This paper discusses the nature of flume tanks, their attributes, as well as the science and art of building and testing scale models of fishing gear.

AbstractThis study aims to describe the role of reproductive, productive and community working of the society of KerengBangkirai and to know the requirement of woman practice and strategic needs in KerengBangkirai. It used qualitative approach with humans as study object. The object of study is the KerengBangkirai society. The result showed that the role of reproductive role became women’s responsibility, either wife/mother or daughter. The role of gender within the community showed the lack of access and women’s control in making important decision. In fact, women are usually missed from village officers’ attention. The women’s practical needs include skills of using fishing gear, child care provider, child room building and others. Then, women’s strategic needs include authority alteration in term of decision-making involvement, equalling job division in domestic sector, women’s involvement in paid toilets as their productive workspace, violence awareness of gender-based and achieving fair access and control.

Title: Transformation livelihood: From Farmers To Fishermen On The Southern Coast, Gunungkidul RegencyHave been changes in the livelihoods of communities along the southern coast of Gunungkidul Regency. Originally, mostly subsistence farmers, but since the 1980s began to change their profession as a fisherman. The job changes have occurred since the community received training fishermen in TPI Baron. Purpose of research to transform the work of farmers become fishermen, and the role of capture fisheries as the main source of livelihood. Research conducted from February to May 2014, in TPI Ngrenehan, Kanigoro, District Saptosari, Gunungkidul Regency. Respondents consisted of fishermen and crew, traders, fuel providers, venture capital services (middlemen). The analysis showed that fishermen work in the location of current research provides a major contribution as a source of family income. However, the fishermen did not leave the farm. Agricultural activities are still carried out by fishermen to use their spare time after work so fishermen and during bad weather. Farming activities, serve as a source of savings that will be used for education or as a source of savings for capital. Revenue from livestock used for new investments is to improve / buy a boat, buy machinery and fishing gear.
