Introduction: Sport among disabled people is becoming more and more popular. It is happening mostly due to the growing number of sports centres for the disabled, and the widespread popularization of this form of activity by organizations working for the benefit of disabled people. Also, the mass media play an important role in the process. The aim of the study a comparison of the knowledge and opinions about disabled sports of physical education students and disabled athletes. Methods: The research was conducted using two different questionnaires. One of them was given to students of Physical Education, the other to members of a disabled sports club, “Start”. The questionnaires consisted of two sections: a personal profile, and 17 questions about disabled sports. 45 full‑time students of Physical Education at the University of Szczecin: 30 (66.7%) women and 15 (33.3%) men. The average age of the group was 23.6 years. The second group, from the disabled sports club, consisted of 33 people, 18 (54.5%) women and 15 (45.5%) men; the average age of the participants was 28.6 years. Results: Among the disabled people, 10 (30.3%) people were unable to name any disabled athlete; among the group of able‑bodied students, there were 33 (73.3%) people who were not able to do the same thing. According to students, disabled people do sports mainly for rehabilitation purposes (51.1%). According to the disabled students’ group, however, sport for disabled people means satisfaction and higher self‑esteem (36.36%). When it comes to the best source of information on the subject, television proved to be the best one among the media. The able‑bodied students rated their knowledge of disabled sports as satisfactory (66.7%), while only 6% of disabled students considered the knowledge of able‑bodied people about disabled sports to be satisfactory. Conclusions: 1. The knowledge about disabled sports among students of physical education is superficial. The disabled also do not possess an extensive knowledge about disabled sports. 2. Opinion on the importance of sport in the lives of disabled people differ between the research groups. Able‑bodied people see the role of sport mainly as a rehabilitation tool; disabled people, however, see it as an activity giving satisfaction and raising their self‑esteem.

There is a considerable amount of research concerning the issue of entrepreneurial intentions, which has attained mixed findings. Integrating sustainability, in the sense of considering disabled people, into the current entrepreneurial intention research makes it possible to fill an important research gap. The main objective of this paper is to clarify the contribution that education, students’ traits, and contextual factors make to an individual’s entrepreneurial intent when disabled students are incorporated into the analysis as an innovative field of study. The aim of this research is to analyze the entrepreneurial intentions of disabled people who are studying in higher education and compare them with non-disabled students while considering the main factors described in previous studies. In order to achieve this objective, we have carried out a logistic regression with a sample of Spanish students. The main findings are: Education does not influence students’ entrepreneurial intentions, which are affected by only some of the students’ traits and background conditions. Regarding the disabled students’ entrepreneurial intentions, we have found no significant differences compared with those of students who are not disabled. Initiatives such as those of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) described in the paper should, therefore, be encouraged, keeping in mind that disabled students do not always show a lack of confidence in themselves as some studies have claimed.

Objetivo: o presente ensaio teve como objetivo dissertar sobre o tripé “ensino, pesquisa e extensão” no que refere às ações desenvolvidas pelas Universidades para a formação inicial de professores de Educação Física no trabalho junto de pessoas com deficiência. Métodos: os procedimentos metodológicos firmaram-se em um ensaio baseando-se nas principais literaturas disponíveis nas bases de dados do Google Acadêmico e Scielo, este estudo caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa descritiva interessada em descobrir e observar fenômenos, procurando descrevê-los, classificá-los e interpretá-los. Resultados: contatou-se que a disciplina que tem como foco o trabalho junto de pessoas com deficiência integra-se nas matrizes curriculares dos cursos de Educação Física a partir de diferentes denominações, porém os professores que ministram tais disciplinas ainda não encontraram uma fórmula adequada para simular vivências práticas para alunos. Quanto aos projetos de extensão e pesquisa, evidenciou-se recentemente a ausência de apoio das Instituições de Ensino Superior e parcerias com entidades específicas que atuam no atendimento de pessoas com deficiência, bem como, a necessidade de um olhar mais atento às pesquisas relacionadas ao aluno com deficiência na Educação Física. Conclusão: por meio do ensino e pesquisa a universidade torna-se mais forte ao saber ensinar e comprovar de seus conhecimentos. A extensão universitária vem para somar e reproduzir na prática tudo aquilo que já foi visto, cabe a todos, docentes e discentes, fazer parte do tripé de sua universidade.ABSTRACT. Physical education teacher formation for work with deficiencies students: teaching, searching, and extension contributions. Objective: this study had as objective to talk about the tripod: “teaching, research and extension programs” regarding the actions elaborated by universities for the initial training of Physical Education teachers working with disabled people. Methods: the methodological procedures got established in a study based in the principal literatures available on the Scholar Google and Scielo database. This study was portrayed as a descriptive research interested in find out and watch phenomena, trying to describe, classify and interpret them. Results: it has revealed that the discipline that focuses on work with disabled people is integrated into the curricular matrices of Physical Education courses from different denominations. However, the teachers who manage these subjects have not yet found a properly formulation to simulate practical experiences with students. Regarding the extension and research programs, it has recently evinced the lack of support of higher education establishments and partnership with specific entities that act with disabled people such as the need of a closer look of the related researches about the disabled students in Physical Education. Conclusion: through teaching and research the university becomes stronger to know how to teach and to prove their knowledge. The extension programs come to make the difference and reproduce with practice everything that has already been seen. It is up to everyone, teachers and students, to be part of the tripod of university.

This paper aims at stating the difficulties which sensory disabled people face in order to access to mediatic information. However, instead of emphasizing and regretting at the difficulties, we try to evidence the needs which users demand to get a whole access to the media and, consequently, highlight their potencial towards the disabled social integration. The goal is to raise different professional's awareness: those which produce andlor make use of the mediato transmit information about their task importance and the possibility of adapting them, if necessary, for sensory disabled people, both related to technological or procedurd adaptations.El trabajo pretende poner de manifiesto las dificultades que manifiestan las personas con discapacidades sensoriales para el acceso a la información mediática. Ahora bien, más que enfatizar y lamentar tales dificultades procura evidenciar las necesidades que demandan los usuarios de los medios para conseguir un acceso integral a ellos y consecuentemente resaltar, en su caso, el potencial de los mismos para la integración social del deficiente. El propósito es concienciar a los distintos profesionales: aquellos que generan y/o se sirven de los medios para transmitir información de la relevancia de su tarea y de la posibilidad de adaptación, en su caso, para personas con problemas sensoriales, tanto con adaptaciones tecnológicas o de procedimiento.

AbstractThe objective of the study was to examine the level of perceived stress among the final year students in the full-time Master’s programme at the Department of Physiotherapy of the University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw, and to identify the factors correlating with stress.The study involved 54 students. The participants were 23 to 28 years of age, 44 of them were women, and 10 men. The level of stress and related factors were evaluated using the Perceived Stress Questionnaire (KPS - Kwestionariusz Poczucia Stresu) created by Mieczysław Plopa and Ryszard Makarowski, and a short questionnaire prepared by the authors of the study, containing questions about the students’ age, gender, physical activity, financial situation, gainful employment, mode of studies, hometown, having a close friend or relative, plans for the future and satisfaction with the studies.Regular physical activity is a factor that positively affects the level of students’ perceived stress. A lower level of perceived stress was also associated with the respondents’ rating of their financial situation as good. The overall mean stress score obtained by the surveyed students is indicative of low stress severity. In the majority of cases, the respondents reported an average level of emotional strain and a low level of external and internal stress. The mean values of overall scores on the stress scale and its subscales were higher for women than for men. However, due to the size of the sample group, the differences cannot be seen as statistically significant.Regular physical activity and good financial situation impact on reducing the level of perceived stress.

Housing conditions as a determinant of the quality of life of disabled people, based on the example of people with sight dysfunctionOne of the basic needs of a person is to have a place to live. Virtually everyone dreams of having their own place, to relax and feel safe. Such a space is an important place for people with disabilities, because it is often the only place that is tailored to their needs, where they feel safer than in any other spaces. Every citizen of the country has the right to housing, which is provided by numerous docu­ments and regulations.The purpose of this article is to evaluate the impact of housing conditions on the quality of life of people with disabilities. The following thesis has been formulated in the work: the disabled aim to improve the quality of their lives by changing housing conditions.Literature sources have been reviewed to define basic concepts, the results of previous studies have been correlated. After accessing the database, the results of the research carried out in March 2015 by the foundation “Nie widzę problemu” literally meaning “I do not see the problem” with involvement of employees and students of the University of Wroclaw have been compiled.The analysis shows that respondents most often live together with their parents and spend a large part of their income on purchases related to household appliances. As much as 60% of re­spondents do not own a flat. Approximately 68% find the buildings they live in are not suited to their needs, however only 23% of them try to get social housing.Translated by Karolina Riemel

This is a conceptual article which seeks to consider the use of contemporary social theory to help understand the experience of disabled students in higher education. The use of social theoretical insights has been criticised by many as demonstrating a lack of engagement with the everyday experiences of disabled people. Work which strives to embed theoretical insights into the study of disability has also been criticised for lacking engagement with the ‘reality’ of impairment. In this article I intend to address some of these criticisms by suggesting some ways in which the use of contemporary social theory may provide an explanatory tool which disentangles confusion regarding the journey undertaken by the disabled student. I will discuss how the writings of several social theorists may be helpful in making sense of disabled student journeys. I will begin by discussing why the work of Jacques Derrida can be useful in this regard. These writings will be considered alongside a debate which draws on the writings of Michel Foucault on the use of power in contemporary higher education institutions. I will critically discuss the theoretical insights of Deleuze and Guattari and their offerings on the notion of ‘becoming’. I will then critically interrogate the work of Rosi Braidotti and apply these to a re-imagining of the disabled student journey. The writings of these important theorists have been used before to explore the experiences of disabled people. However, this article is unique in that it proposes that these writings can be used to demystify the experiences of disabled students in higher education. I suggest some ways the work of Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari and Braidotti enable a greater understanding of my personal student journey. I suggest that they could be used to make sense of a far wider range of student journeys. I conclude the article by offering a model which utilises some important aspects of these theoretical insights.

The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the current scope of P.E. classes organized at the University of Warmia & Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland) during a period of one semester on the level of 1st year students’ motor abilities. A total of 337 full-time students aged 19-20 participated in the research. In order to calculate the students’ BMI, basic anthropometric parameters such as their body mass and height were measured. The students’ motor abilities were examined at the beginning as well as at the end of the summer semester of the academic year 2009/2010 using the following 13 motor tests: the standing long jump [cm], the 4x10 m shuttle run [s], the skipping with clapping of hands – 8 s [number of claps], sit-ups – 30 s [number of sit-ups], the medicine ball (4 kg) forward throw [cm], the medicine ball (4 kg) backward throw [cm], the bent-arm hang on bar [s], the downward bend from standing position [cm], the sit and reach [cm], Burpee test – 1 and 3 min. [number of cycles], and the forward-backward arm rotation over head holding a bar [cm]. The data were subjected to statistical analysis using the Statistica PL v. 10 software package. In the majority of motor trials (eight out of eleven) the students performed significantly worse after completing the semester-long P.E. course. In the other five trials the differences were found to be insignificant. Moreover, the study revealed that the participants’ average BMI increased over the course of the experiment. Based on the above it can be concluded that the current university P.E. program seems to be ineffective as it failed to result in noticeable positive physical changes, although the possible influence of the P.E. classes on the students’ attitudes toward physical education and their future lifestyles should not be ignored. If it is to lead to the desired physical changes in university youth, the amount of time devoted to physical education at the university must be increased, the classes distributed differently and their form rethought. The article deals with the problem of the influence of distance learning on the level of physical fitness of students. The use of modern information and communication technologies has led to the creation of a new educational environment, which, as part of the training, has provided students with the opportunity to independently acquire knowledge in the context of constantly updated information. The discipline «Physical Education» is one of the main practical classes in the university program, and in order to assess how the new proposed training conditions will affect the quality of physical fitness of students, we will conduct a study within the framework of physical education classes. The aim of the study is to analyze the impact of distance learning on the level of physical fitness of students. Objectives of the study: to consider the content of distance learning, to analyze the passing of the standard running 100 m., to conduct an experiment and check the impact of distance learning on the level of physical fitness of students, to draw conclusions and make recommendations. The research methods are the generalization of scientific and methodological literature, the method of mathematical statistics, and the pedagogical experiment. Organization and results of the study. The study was conducted with students of the 1st year of full-time study at the Perm State Technical University. As a result of the experiment, it was revealed that during distance learning, the theoretical part of the students mastered better, and in the practical part (running 100 m.), the results deteriorated, since most of the physical culture program was presented in the form of theoretical and methodological-practical sections, and there was no possibility of active and systematic running, mastering technical and tactical training techniques and improving them.

This work examines the issues of increasing the effectiveness of physical education of students at the university, their attitude to physical education, the formation of a healthy lifestyle. The following indicators are analyzed: hardening procedures, daily walks in the fresh air in order to increase physical activity, independent performance of physical exercises by students during the academic year. 110 students of the first and second years of full-time education, involved in compulsory physical education in the main and preparatory medical groups, were evaluated. It was noted that only 17% of students regularly do morning exercises, 12% of students perform hardening procedures constantly, 26% are engaged in sports sections.

Students with disabilities require special convenient access to library services as compared to the general student population. Despite the special needs requirements, there is consensus among researchers that access to library services by students with disabilities is not yet fully available, especially in countries in the global periphery. This study utilised quantitative data collected through questionnaires directed to 92 disabled students registered for the 2013 academic year, an interview with the librarian responsible for the disabled students unit and observation using the IFLA checklist for access to libraries for disabled people to evaluate the convenience and accessibility of library services for students with disabilities at the University of Limpopo in South Africa. Even though the study established that a purpose-built library service unit for students with disabilities that complies with international best practice was in place, students with disabilities were not adequately satisfied with the library services they received as very few library materials had been transcribed into accessible formats. The situation was compounded by the fact that only one librarian was assigned to manage and run the library services for the disabled. The study recommends that the university should hire more librarians to assist students with disabilities in the audio-braille library. It is hoped that the study will stimulate policy makers to include students with disabilities in information access and collection development policies. A further study on the needs and academic progress assessment of students with one group of disabilities is recommended.
