Abstract Sericulture has been seen in Rwanda as an opportunity for increasing raw materials for the textile industry. Therefore, it has provided a new source of income, reduced unemployment and most likely to improve the livelihood status of poor sericulture smallholder producers by increasing their income earnings. The high yield in silk production has been pleasing due to the favourable climatic conditions for mulberry cultivation, sericulture has been seen as a potential tool to reduce poverty and also to generate foreign exchanges from exportation. The broad objective of this paper focuses on the impact of the livelihood status of smallholder producers in Rwanda. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were employed in selecting 286 sericulture households’ farmers in Gatsibo district. Data for this study were analysed using descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, paired-samples t-test, cross-tabulation and chi-square test of independence. The results of this study showed clearly a significant improvement in the livelihood of the farmers. It was gathered that 82% asserted there are organized markets available for silk exportation. 77% affirmed an improvement in their income status. The average level of income per year from cocoon production among the farmers was estimated to be $227.59. It is of topmost priority for this program to continue because its effect has a very positive impact on the livelihood status of the beneficiaries. Farmers should be provided with continuous training, access to credits. If sustained properly it will resolve future challenges and springs more opportunities for farmers and likewise to the country through exports.

This article is about results of research on varietal agro-technologies of Marzhane, Yantar and AySaule breeds on conditions of Aral region in Kazakhstan. In particular, we conducted a research on the issue of the impact of fertilizers and seed sowing amount on productivity. Fertilizers had only positive impact on all breeds that had been studied. In the distribution of fertilizers Marzhane breed has high yield with six and a half million seeds, Yantar (Amber) breed has high yield with seven million seeds and AiSaule breed with seven and half million seeds. In case when we had multiplied the of seed sowing of Yantar breed had been increased to seven and a half million, the product dropped amount of seeds sowing of Marzhane breed the product decreased to eight percent. Respectively, when amount. In the contrary, in the same case AySaule breed was marked with the high productivity. As a result of studies in the central ecological zone, which is considered to be the main zone of rice growing in Kazakhstan, adapted rice varieties have been selected, regularities in the formation of high yield of these varieties in severe stress natural and climatic conditions have been determined. Optimal norms for sowing seeds and doses of mineral fertilizers are offered for agro-formers engaged in rice farming, ensuring high yield and good quality of products of varieties Marzhan, Yantar and AiSaule. We recommend ways to increase the economic efficiency of cultivating innovative varieties of rice by using high technology in a market economy. Keywords: rice, varietal, productivity, fertilizer

In this article, we employ a multinomial logistic regression model to determine which factors predict middle- and upper income class belonging among Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We examine the impact of identity, education, occupation, and urbanization on income status. The positive impact of higher education is captured by the model; however, post-secondary education has a greater impact on some Indigenous groups than others. We present interaction terms between education and identity to show that investment in higher education is crucial to Indigenous people’s income attainment; however, some identity groups benefit more than others.

In the current political and economic situation in the Russian Federation, due to the need for rapid development of import substitution in the food sector, agriculture has become one of the priority sectors of the Russian economy. In the context of sanctions restrictions, food security as an essential component of the country’s national security depends entirely on the level of agricultural development. The problems and features of agricultural production development in regions with difficult natural and climatic conditions are relevant, since additional investments and the introduction of innovative technologies that reduce the impact of negative factors are required there. The article discusses the trends and prospects of ensuring food security of the Far Eastern Federal District. This direction includes the physical availability of food for the population of all subjects of the district, the necessary volumes and quality of food, its positive impact on the health of the population. Indicators of agricultural production in the district and its features in the regions are considered. The main problem of regions with unfavorable climatic conditions remains insufficient production of various types of products. The necessary directions for improving food security are systematic state support and strategic cooperation with neighboring regions at the inter-sectoral and inter-municipal levels.

As an agricultural country, the Indonesian agricultural sector should obtain a positive impact of the regional economic integration. Since in 2004 by the Early Harvest Program (EHP) of China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), most agricultural commodities have lowered tariff, indeed some have been zero percent.Unfortunately, the performance of the agricultural sector has not shown tangible improvement. Then beforethe rates was released for all commodities, should be evaluated and re-defined policies that should be taken. This paper purposesto examine the impact of the implementation of CAFTA on the Indonesian agricultural performances. The objectives will be achieved by compare the performance preand post-CAFTA; predict the performance if CAFTA is fully implemented, by performing simulations and econometric models. By using time series data 1990-2011, agriculture can be divided into two categories; agricultural raw materials and food products. The estimation result of econometric modeling by simultaneous equations, the Indonesian agricultural sector performance after CAFTA is not better than before implementation. Predicted will decrease when the entire rates later free. Keywords: agriculture raw material; foods product; agriculture performance; economic integration

Purpose Building on Upper Echelons Theory and prior research on strategic leadership, the purpose of this paper is to examine the possible effect on employee motivation of two sets of characteristics related to leaders: demographic (gender and age); and professional development (tenure, prior career experience in the organization and training). Design/methodology/approach The empirical analysis is based on data from a survey of Spanish educational organizations (secondary schools). The hypotheses are tested using hierarchical multiple regression analysis estimations. Findings The results reveal that the characteristics linked to a leader’s professional development have a significant impact on employee (teacher) motivation. Specifically, a long tenure in office has a negative effect, while prior career experience in an organization and continuous training have a positive impact. However, none of the leader’s demographic characteristics considered in the study has a significant impact on teacher motivation. Practical implications Several lines of managerial and educational policy action are suggested for improving employee (teacher) motivation, especially in the specific case of the schools considered here. Originality/value This study is one of the first attempts to explore what impact certain leaders’ characteristics have on employee motivation.
