One of the largest trap intrusion provinces, Siberian traps, is located in the East-Siberian Platform in Russia. A trap intrusion zone usually has abnormally low reservoir pressures and natural fractures. Consequently, trap drilling is associated with fluid losses that can be catastrophic. The section of trap intrusion is a part of a Ø 174 mm production casing section of the Srednebotuobinskoe field. The basic well design of this section also includes the Osinsky horizon, which features an abnormally high reservoir pressure zone. The latter creates incompatible with drilling conditions environment due to the presence of catastrophic loss zones in traps. Time spent on drilling a trap intrusion zone accounts for up to 30 % of the total well drilling time. The abovementioned geological issues in directional wells become the key topic in solving it. The method to resolve this issue is an integrated approach employing all the technologies and technical facilities aimed at finding a technological solution. First of all, in order to optimize the well construction cycles and reduce the complications, all the wells were classified in three categories as per the type of behavior in trap intrusion. This allowed to work out multi-level activities, that depended on severity of losses and non-operational time spent on drilling through this section. An alternative well design was developed and trialed on several wells, which showed positive results on decreasing non-productive timing. The main concept of this design was significantly different from the basic well design that was used in the past on the Srednebotuobinskoe field. The main difference was isolation of traps from the high pressure Osinsky horizon lower section with a Ø 245 mm casing string, which allowed safe splitting of two incompatible drilling zones. The economic effect of this solution allowed saving of up to 10.4 days or 15 % of the construction time in the wells of first category. These results were reviewed at the Technical Committee of the Company and agreed to implement the alternative well design on first category wells on the Srednebotuobinskoe field. In addition, for the rest of well categories the Drilling Team has produced and successfully implemented the preventative measures that allowed drilling through traps with lost circulation material. It is worth to mention that this method assumed a by-passing mud-cleaning system on the rig to allow building up a solid phase thus stemming the losses while drilling. For all the categories of the wells the Drilling team has selected and trialed different types and designs of drilling bits that would allow drilling hard rock such as dolerite section in traps with minimal number of runs. For the last five years the Drilling team together with the bit producing companies have designed a new type of PDC cutters that would allow to enhance durability as well as improve drilling speed both in dolerite formations and in overlying formations in the Production casing section. The Drilling team has also managed to reduce the number of trips associated with early bit wear decreasing them from five to two runs and create an experimental basis for drilling the entire section of the production casing in one run. From 2019 team continue looking for further solutions that would allow to improve bottomhole assembly elements balancing between durability and drilling rate in different types of formations above and below traps. A range of proposed technological solutions significantly reduced the impact on the well construction performance by preventing and reducing the downhole losses events in the section of trap intrusion on the Srednebotuobinskoe field.

Abstract This paper discusses the journey of finding alternate solution for having to run the Expandable Liners operations in the Fahud field which is already one of the most operationally challenging fields to drill in Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), due to the presence of a gas cap in highly fractured and depleted limestone formations with total losses and the need for dynamic annulus fill to maintain primary well control. In Fahud field, there is a highly reactive shale formation within reservoir limestone formation. Due to high likelihood of total losses, this shale formation caused bore hole instability challenges while drilling. And with more depletion took place, the challenges became more frequently to occurred. In 2001, expandable tubular liner was introduced to address these bore hole instability challenges while drilling highly reactive shale formation under total losses in the 8-1/2″ section. The use of expandable technology was sustained over the years in delivering all wells drilled to traverse this reactive shale column. Previously before 2001, wells used to have fat well design by installations of extra casing to cover the formations and problematic zones. Also, Fahud field was not depleted as it is now, and the problematic shale zone used to drill by normal conventional way without any issue using inhibition frilling fluid. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) identified expandable liner as a preferred alternative to ‘Fat’ well design. The ‘Fat’ well design would have a large hole size through potential loss zones, resulting in unmanageable volumes of water being required. Expandable liber was fast-tracked - various technical options were considered by PDO with expandable liner technology being identified as the best solution to address the problem of the shale column. However, the deployment of expandable tubular liner technology supported to drill & deliver wells but also has its associated challenges incurring additional time and cost with reasonable installation and low operations success rate due to number of operational steps required prior and after the expandable liner. Adding to that, all the challenges associated with each step. The installation of the expandable liner required eight operational steps with multiple trips to under-ream, install and expand, cement, caliper log and drill through the liner which increased the probability of something going wrong due to mainly the challenging well profile and multiple operations steps. The expandable liners technology was required when the target formation was below the reactive shale interval. The team carried out a study of previous deployments with the intention of identifying well planning and operational contributors to the installation difficulties and operations failures, with a view of eliminating the need for installing the expandable liner and drilling the well to the desired landing point at designed section total depth. Most of the unsuccessful installation rates were observed to be prevalent in wells with high angle applications. The team also observed that the length of the hole interval below the reactive shale column contributed to the number of unsuccessful installation and operational failure rates recorded. The team evaluated the impact of reducing well inclination on the ability to deliver the hole section without installing the expandable liner. Subsequently the team developed an optimization plan which involved keeping all build activities above and below the problematic interval and holding tangent at less than 45° inclination while drilling across the problematic shale. In conclusion, in 2020 the team delivered six wells (90% of wells crossing reactive shale formation delivered) using the above described approach and traversed the historically highly reactive shale formation without installing expandable liners. This resulted in a 20% reduction in total well construction time and 17% reduction in total well delivery cost per well. In addition to the time and cost saving, with the new approach, described in this paper, less water needed to be pumped for dynamic fill. This allowed bringing the wells quicker to production, thus reducing oil deferment.

In this study we investigate how we can effectively redesign a product family using additive manufacturing (AM). Specifically, we propose an integrated approach to product family redesign using platform metrics for a product family that uses AM. The proposed approach can help identify what to platform and how to platform with AM. We employ a variety metric to measure the amount of redesign for each component, a commonality metric to capture different types of commonality, and Design Structure Matrix (DSM) to analyze a platform architecture. After integrating these metrics, we can optimize balancing the tradeoffs between commonality and differentiation of components. Components that offer little variety for the market can be made common and part of the platform while components that must be varied to achieve market requirements should not be platformed and may be easily customized with AM. In order to facilitate customization of AM components, we can evaluate redesign of platform interfaces to help embed flexibility and modularity into the product family. To investigate the impact of the integrated approach, we apply the proposed approach to a family of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as a case study. The results show the proposed approach can be effectively employed to identify ways to redesign the UAV family to improve the balance of commonality and variety of future product offerings.

The aim of this paper is revelation of risks caused by inhalation of toxic elements, containing in emissions of boilers using different types of fuels (coal, oil, gas, woods), and the pollutants priority identification. The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks factors have been calculated through calculated data on trace elements concentrations in the air, based on established experimentally their content in the snow cover’s solid phase. According to the total value of the inhalation impact’s danger factor the studied territories can be ranked in the following range of boilers: coal > woods >gas ≥ oil ones. The impact of these activities can be appraised as permissible and acceptable. Contributions of heavy metals into risk characteristics have been ranked. Elements Mn, Cu, Ba, Al make the major contribution to the hazard coefficient and are among the elements-indicators for ash emissions of coal boilers. For all elements with carcinogenic properties (Cr (VI), Cd, As, Be, Ni, Co, Pb) the values of individual carcinogenic risk are below 10–5 for environs of all considered boilers. Such values correspond to the negligible risk level. From a practical standpoint, the heavy metals’ emissions differentiation both by nature and content, when using different types of fuel, affects the health risk indicators and can be informative when choosing a fuel for boilers of individual housing construction.

Abstract. Two studies carried out among Albanian public-sector employees examined the impact of different types of affirmative action policies (AAPs) on (counter)stereotypical perceptions of women in decision-making positions. Study 1 (N = 178) revealed that participants – especially women – perceived women in decision-making positions as more masculine (i.e., agentic) than feminine (i.e., communal). Study 2 (N = 239) showed that different types of AA had different effects on the attribution of gender stereotypes to AAP beneficiaries: Women benefiting from a quota policy were perceived as being more communal than agentic, while those benefiting from weak preferential treatment were perceived as being more agentic than communal. Furthermore, we examined how the belief that AAPs threaten men’s access to decision-making positions influenced the attribution of these traits to AAP beneficiaries. The results showed that men who reported high levels of perceived threat, as compared to men who reported low levels of perceived threat, attributed more communal than agentic traits to the beneficiaries of quotas. These findings suggest that AAPs may have created a backlash against its beneficiaries by emphasizing gender-stereotypical or counterstereotypical traits. Thus, the framing of AAPs, for instance, as a matter of enhancing organizational performance, in the process of policy making and implementation, may be a crucial tool to countering potential backlash.

Subject. The article addresses the specifics of shadow economic activities in reformed Russia in the context of systemic transformations. Objectives. We focus on determining the role of shadow economy in the reproductive process, identifying and understanding the specifics of underground economic activity of the Russian economy. Methods. The study rests on general scientific methods (scientific abstraction, unity of historical and logical, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, comparison and analogy) and special methods of cognition (monetary methods). We employ the systems and integrated approach. The official statistics, regulations, works of leading researchers on shadow economy expansion, resources of reference and legal systems like Garant and ConsultantPlus serve as the study's information base. Results. We present a retrospective rapid analysis of the extent of shadow economic activity in the domestic economy, establishing the relationships with the processes that take place at different stages of the country's development. We also reveal the specifics of shadow economy relations in Russia, factors that play a key role in expansion for a particular period, a shift to another form of shadow economy. The study characterizes the current period of development, assesses the impact of external shocks on shadow economy expansion. Conclusions. The current period is characterized by the digitization of shadow relations, the shift of corruption to the upper echelons of power, the continued outflow of capital abroad, and increased penalties for underground activities.

Subject. This article deals with the issues of functioning of the region as a system. Objectives. The article aims to identify the problems of the region's functioning as a system, develop methodological tools to monitor the sustainable development of the Siberian Federal District territories, and determine the the impact of socio-economic and environmental factors on the sustainable development of the region as a whole. Methods. For the study, I used the methods of theoretical, statistical, and empirical analyses taking into account an integrated approach. Results. The article reveals the impact of some individual components of regional development on the sustainability of the territorial system as a whole. Relevance. The results of the study can be used to analyze the sustainability of regions' development.


ABSTRACT The ecosystem services provided by wetlands can be direct or indirect. The direct services can be mostly valued through market prices, but the indirect service like aesthetic beauty and its impact on property prices surrounding the natural resource cannot be directly measured. To single out the economic effect of particular amenity which influenced the land property prices, the advanced valuation technique Hedonic property pricing was most popularly used. In this study, it was attempted to assess using the hedonic property pricing technique, the impact of the presence of the freshwater body, the Vellayani Lake on land property prices surrounding it. The results revealed that the marginal implicit price of getting one cent of land with lake view evaluated at mean property price of Rs. 2,44250 was Rs.79171. The total aesthetic value of land with the scenic beauty of the lake was Rs. 275.92 crores.

The article presents a methodology for assessing the impact of spatial environment on the socioeconomic development of municipalities. It relies on existing tools for assessing the state and potential of the geographical location of municipalities. An integrated approach allows to determine the potential of the interaction of the municipality with the neighbors of the first and second order. The methodology was tested on statistical data on the Blagovarsky municipal district.

Glycoproteins and glycopeptides are an interesting focus of research, because of their potential use as therapeutic agents, since they are related to carbohydrate-carbohydrate, carbohydrate-protein, and carbohydrate-lipid interactions, which are commonly involved in biological processes. It has been established that natural glycoconjugates could be an important source of templates for the design and development of molecules with therapeutic applications. However, isolating large quantities of glycoconjugates from biological sources with the required purity is extremely complex, because these molecules are found in heterogeneous environments and in very low concentrations. As an alternative to solving this problem, the chemical synthesis of glycoconjugates has been developed. In this context, several methods for the synthesis of glycopeptides in solution and/or solid-phase have been reported. In most of these methods, glycosylated amino acid derivatives are used as building blocks for both solution and solid-phase synthesis. The synthetic viability of glycoconjugates is a critical parameter for allowing their use as drugs to mitigate the impact of microbial resistance and/or cancer. However, the chemical synthesis of glycoconjugates is a challenge, because these molecules possess multiple reaction sites and have a very specific stereochemistry. Therefore, it is necessary to design and implement synthetic routes, which may involve various protection schemes but can be stereoselective, environmentally friendly, and high-yielding. This review focuses on glycopeptide synthesis by recapitulating the progress made over the last 15 years.

This book provides an account of how and why routine interactions break down and how such situational breakdowns lead to protest violence and other types of surprising social outcomes. It takes a close-up look at the dynamic processes of how situations unfold and compares their role to that of motivations, strategies, and other contextual factors. The book discusses factors that can draw us into violent situations and describes how and why we make uncommon individual and collective decisions. Covering different types of surprise outcomes from protest marches and uprisings turning violent to robbers failing to rob a store at gunpoint, it shows how unfolding situations can override our motivations and strategies and how emotions and culture, as well as rational thinking, still play a part in these events. The first chapters study protest violence in Germany and the United States from 1960 until 2010, taking a detailed look at what happens between the start of a protest and the eruption of violence or its peaceful conclusion. They compare the impact of such dynamics to the role of police strategies and culture, protesters’ claims and violent motivations, the black bloc and agents provocateurs. The analysis shows how violence is triggered, what determines its intensity, and which measures can avoid its outbreak. The book explores whether we find similar situational patterns leading to surprising outcomes in other types of small- and large-scale events: uprisings turning violent, such as Ferguson in 2014 and Baltimore in 2015, and failed armed store robberies.
