Rice straw/Poly(butylene succinate)(PBS) composites were prepared by injection molding machine. The influence of content and particle size of rice straw on the mechanical properties of composites indicated that with the increase of rice straw content the tensile strength and fracture strain of the composites was decreased. With the same content of rice straw, the smaller particle size, the more obvious decreased. The influence of dosage of silane coupling agent(SCA) on the composites was studied, the result indicated that with the increase of SCA content, the interface of composite materials significantly improved, the Young’s modulus increased 362% after rice straw was treated by SCA. Thermal analysis showed that the adding of coupling agent didn’t undermine the thermodynamic stability of the composites.

In this paper nanoSiO2 particles were prepared with the surface grafted fluorine coupling agents and double bond by using surface modification technology. Dispersion effect of nanoSiO2 particles were studied in different solvents ultrasound cavitation. Test results showed in infrared spectroscopy, TEM and laser particle size distribution analyzer that both F8261 and KH-570 have been grafted onto the surface of nanoSiO2 , particle size and distribution of nanoSiO2 after modified by the two coupling agent became smaller and more narrow; Tg-DSC analysis showed that when the amount of of the coupling agent is up to 10%, fluorine coupling agent and double bond grafted onto surface of nanoSiO2 particles reach the saturation.

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology is the most common system for polymer additive manufacturing (AM). Recent studies have been conducted to expand both the range of materials that can be used for FDM and their applications. As a filler, wood flour was incorporated into poly lactic acid (PLA) polymer to develop a biocomposite material. Composite filaments were manufactured with various wood flour contents and then successfully used for 3D printing. Morphological, mechanical, and biodegradation properties of FDM 3D-printed PLA composites were investigated. To mitigate brittleness, 5 phr of maleic anhydride grafted ethylene propylene diene monomer (MA-EPDM) was added to the composite blends, and microstructural properties of the composites were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical strength tests demonstrated that elasticity was imparted to the composites. Additionally, test results showed that the addition of wood flour to the PLA matrix promoted pore generation and further influenced the mechanical and biodegradation properties of the 3D-printed composites. An excellent effect of wood flour on the biodegradation properties of FDM 3D-printed PLA composites was observed.

The basalt fibers/poly (lactic acid) composites, as a kind of green environment friendly materials, were prepared by vacuum perfusion method. The effect of silane coupling agent KH550 on the interface of BFs/PLA composites was analyzed. We observed the microstructure of the surface of BFs treated by silane KH550 and the interface of the composites, explored the chemical reaction among silane KH550, BFs and PLA. The silane KH550 succeeded in linking BFs and PLA and enhanced the interfacial bonding strength between BFs and PLA matrix. The crystalline properties of KH550-treated BFs/PLA composites were better than untreated BFs/PLA composites. The mechanical test suggested the silane KH550 had good effect on strengthening BFs/PLA composites.

The attapulgite core-shell microcapsule type flame retardant was prepared by in situ polymerization. Attapulgite (ATP) was used as a core material with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate-co-acrylic acid) [P(MMA-co-AA)] as shell materials. The attapulgite was modified by the silane coupling agent. The effects of different shell materials and modification methods on the structure and properties of attapulgite core-shell microcapsules were studied by scanning electron microscopy, particle size distribution, infrared analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that the coating effect was best when the amount of silane coupling agent was 1% of the attapulgite mass. The particle size of the microcapsule prepared with PMMA as shell material was uniform and the coating efficiency was better. After the copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) in MMA shell materials, the cladding efficiency was improved. At the same time, the thermal decomposition temperature of the microcapsule shell material was greatly reduced, which is beneficial to the performance of attapulgite flame retardant.

In this work, micrometer copper-zinc alloy particles-reinforced particleboard wood flour/poly (lactic acid) (mCu-Zn/PWF/PLA) wood plastic composites with high gloss and antibacterial properties for 3D printing were prepared by a melt blending process. The structure and properties of the composites with different contents of mCu-Zn were analyzed by means of mechanical testing, dynamic mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and antibacterial testing. The results showed that the mechanical properties, thermal stability, and antibacterial performance of the composites were significantly improved, as mCu-Zn was added into the wood plastic composites. When adding 2 wt.% mCu-Zn, the flexural strength of mCu-Zn/PWF/PLA composites (with 5 wt.% of particleboard wood flour) (PWF) increased by 47.1% compared with pure poly (lactic acid) (PLA), and 18.9% compared with PWF/PLA wood plastic composites. The surface gloss was increased by 1142.6% compared with PWF/PLA wood plastic composites. Furthermore, the inhibition rates of mCu-Zn/PWF/PLA composites against Escherichia coli reached 90.43%. Therefore, this novel high gloss and antibacterial wood plastic composites for fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing have potential applications in personalized and classic furniture, art, toys, etc.

Abstract Due to high light absorption and high refractive index of silicon nitride (Si3N4) ceramic, it is difficult to prepare Si3N4 slurry with favourable curing ability, high solid loading and low viscosity at the same time, and thus the high quality Si3N4 parts are hard to fabricate via Digital Light Processing (DLP). In this paper, oxidation process was used to enhance the curing behavior of Si3N4 slurry, and then silane coupling agent (KH560) was used to improve the rheological properties of the oxidized Si3N4 slurry. The effect of Si3N4 slurry with oxidation and modification on its rheological behavior, light absorption, curing ability and stability have been systematically investigated. A Si3N4 slurry with abundant photocuring ability, high solid loading, low viscosity and reliable stability was fabricated by the oxidized (1h) and KH560 (1wt.%) modified Si3N4 powders, and the dense Si3N4 ceramic parts were produced by this slurry via DLP 3D printing. Subsequently, the influence of oxidation and modification on microstructure, mechanical properties and thermal conductivity have been investigated. Finally, the performances of the DLP 3D printed samples are close to the isostatic cool pressing (ICP) fabricated samples. Consequently, DLP has well potential to fabricate high-performance Si3N4 ceramics.
