Kebanyakan komuniti Cina di negeri Terengganu tinggal di daerah Kuala Terengganu yang berfungsi sebagai ibu negeri, pusat pentadbiran, pusat perniagaan negeri dan pusat keagamaan mereka. Kajian ini bertujuan menjelaskan tentang peranan Kuala Terengganu sebagai pusat perkembangan agama-agama bagi komuniti Cina di negeri ini. Metodologi kajian ini dilakukan melalui kaedah temu bual ke atas lima orang pemimpin badan agama di negeri ini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa kebanyakan komuniti Cina di negeri Terengganu berpegang kepada agama Buddha, Taoisme dan Confucianisme dan sebahagian daripada mereka memeluk agama Kristian dan Islam. Most of the Chinese community in Terengganu live in Kuala Terengganu area which serves as the capital, administrative, business and religious center of the state. This study aims to explain the role of Kuala Terengganu as a center for the development of religions for the Chinese community in this state. The methodology of this study is conducted through series of interview with 5 religious leaders. The result reveals that most of the Chinese communities in the state of Terengganu adhere to Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism while some of them embrace Christianity and Islam.

In The issues of the New York Times from February, 1965, to November, 1967, religious leaders and groups are reported 185 times commenting on one political issue: Vietnam. If a comparable search were done on an inclusive list of political topics, such as civil rights, the number of citations would be greatly multiplied. Most of these statements are on substantive issues — the United States should do this, do that — rather than on the theoretical questions about religion's role vis à vis politics. Most of these religious interventions presume some connection between religion and politics, whether articulated or not. A similar examination of some leading religious journals, for example, Chrisianity and Crisis, Commonweal, Christian Century, America, produces similar results: in articles and editorials, such publications are deeply immersed in direct commentary on political problems of our time.

ABSTRACT  Islamic Religious Instructor has a quite strategic role in the midst of society. besides he is a preacher of Islam, also the Islamic Religious Instructor, according to his function as a guide, illuminator, and community builder with religious language. The role of religious counselors in addition to functioning as an impetus for the community to actively participate in development also plays a role in overcoming obstacles that build the course of development, particularly overcoming negative impacts. Religious instructors as religious leaders always guide, nurture, and move the community to do good and stay away from prohibited acts, inviting something that is needed by the community in fostering its territory both for the purposes of social facilities and worship. The Religious Instructor is a place to ask questions and a place to complain for his community to solve and resolve with his advice. Religious Instructors as community leaders act as priests in matters of religion and social problems as well as in matters of state by an effort to succeed the government program. The role of religious instructors in improving and creating the quality of sakinah families in the Muhajirin AL Muhajirin voluntary II Ta'lim Assembly group in Teluk Betung Barat Subdistrict, Bandar Lampung City, it can be concluded that religious counselors play an important role in improving the quality of sakinah families, one of which is in terms of worship , and also able to improve the quality of a new family and has long become a sakinah family.

This study aims to elaborate and analyze the harmonization model of religious life which is integrated into the patterns of religious social interaction in Kalukku and the role of religious leaders in knitting religious social harmony. The method applied is a qualitative method using inductive data analysis. The results of this study indicate that the pattern of religious interaction in Kalukku refers to the three patterns of Hossein Nasr interaction, namely: 1) concentric interaction patterns; 2) reciprocal interaction patterns; and 3) bound interaction patterns, which are carried out in an integrated manner have succeeded in creating a dynamic, harmonious and quality model of religious interaction. The motivation that underlies the realization of an energetic relationship refers to the concept of the four pillars of maqāṣid Ibn ‘Āshūr namely Fiṭrah, Samāḥa, al-Musāwāh, and Ḥurriyah. The paradigm of religious leaders towards the existence of cross-faith parties leads to a tolerant attitude based on the concept of Cak Nur's inclusive theology. The harmony and tolerant paradigm in Kalukku is built through formal and non-formal da'wah which is woven in efforts to acculturate religion and culture.

This paper examines the relation between sexual politics and post-neoliberalism/populism in Kirchners’ Argentina between 2003 and 2015, focusing on the role of religious actors. Despite the opposition of religious leaders, including that of Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio (now Pope Francis), Argentina advanced in the recognition of gender and sexual rights during the Kirchners’ administrations. Conflicts around gender and sexuality, particularly around same-sex marriage, explain some of the tensions between political and religious actors in the period. The focus of this paper on sexual politics shows that the Kirchners’ administrations, unlike other traditional populist or post-neoliberal administrations, had a strong liberal component, which explains the tensions between that populist government and conservative religious actors.

<strong>Abstrak: </strong>keberadaan<strong> </strong>berbagai kajian dan literatur tentang gender tidak serta merta merubah pandangan masyarakat tentang keadilan gender. Sebab, kajian gender tetapi memiliki pendukung dan penentang. Ada pendapat bahwa kajian gender berupaya merubah ajaran agama itu sendiri. Dalam kajian gender selama ini, ditemukan banyak pihak yang ikut berkontribusi bagi muncul dan berkembangnya paham yang bias gender dalam masyarakat Muslim, khususnya di Indonesia. Di antara pihak yang bertanggungjawab terhadap kelestarian paham yang diskriminatif terhadap perempuan adalah para pemuka agama yang diwakili oleh para ustaz dan ustazah dimana mereka memainkan peran sebagai penyampai ajaran agama kepada masyarakat Muslim. Artikel ini mengkaji pandangan para ustaz dan ustazah terhadap ketidakadilan gender yang dilihat dari latar belakang suku masing-masing, sehingga akan terungkap perihal adakah kaitan antara latar belakang suku seorang ustaz dan ustazah terhadap persepsi mereka tentang ketidakadilan gender. Didasari oleh studi lapangan, dimana data penelitian diperoleh dari angket dan wawancara, kajian ini menemukan bahwa masih ditemukannya pemahaman bias gender dalam persepsi ustaz dan ustazah di kota Medan. Kajian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi kajian gender di Indonesia.  <strong></strong><br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Kata Kunci: </strong>ustaz, ustazah, ketidakadilan, gender, suku<br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Abstract: The Perception of Islamic Preachers about Gender Bias Reviewed From Ethnic Group Backgrounds.</strong> The existence of various studies and literature on gender does not automatically change the society's opinion about gender equality. As such, supporters and opponents of the idea are readily found. One opinion goes as far as saying that gender studies try to alter the teachings of religion itself. In the gender studies has been found that many contributed to the emergence and development of gender biased ideology in Muslim societies, especially in Indonesia. Among those responsible to discriminatory preservation of women are religious leaders who are represented by <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> where they play the role of religious teachings to the Muslim community. This article examines the opinions of <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> on gender inequality realized from the background of each ethnic group, so it will be revealed about whether there is a link between ethnic background of an <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> to their perception of gender injustice. Based on field studies, where the research data was obtained from questionnaires and interviews, this study found that there is an understanding of gender bias in <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> perceptions in Medan city. This book addresses the role of religious reformers in the development of poor relief in the sixteenth century. During the Reformation, religious leaders served as catalysts, organizers, stabilizers, and consolidators of various programs to alleviate poverty. Although once in line with religious piety, voluntary poverty was no longer a spiritual virtue for many religious reformers. Rather, they imagined social welfare reform to be an integral part of religious reform and worked to modify existing common chests or establish new ones. As crises and migration exacerbated poverty and caused begging to be an increasing concern, Catholic humanists and Protestant reformers moved beyond traditional almsgiving to urge coordination and centralization of a poor relief system. For example, Martin Luther promoted the consolidation of former ecclesiastical property in the poor relief plan for Leisnig in 1523, while Juan Luis Vives devised a new social welfare proposal for Bruges in 1526. In negotiations with magistrates and city councils, reformers shaped various local institutions, such as hospitals, orphanages, job creation programs, and scholarships for students, as well as developed new ways of supporting foreigners, strangers, and refugees. Religious leaders contributed to caring for the vulnerable because poverty was a problem too big for any one group to tackle. As religious options multiplied within Christianity, one’s understanding of community would determine the boundaries, albeit contested and sometimes fluid, of responsible poor relief.

This chapter provides a historical overview of ambivalent encounters between Indonesia and the Arab world through findings that show the relationship between Indonesia and the Middle East. It recounts the Indonesians' earliest encounters with Arab traders in the seventh century, from confrontations with Indo Persian Sufi up to the current democratization process that have been marked by contradictory dynamics. It also explains how Arabs have been acknowledged as teachers of Islam and allies in the postcolonial nonbloc movement. The chapter describes the gloomy counterimage of the Arab world against which Indonesian officials and religious leaders drew the picture of a tolerant, pluralist Indonesian Islam. It mentions the key role of the mobility across the Indian Ocean in the formation of Islamic culture in Indonesia.

The article gives a review and analysis of the contemporary environmental initiatives of Buddhist leaders of Buryatia. The environmental condition of the Baikal region is of great importance not only for Russia but also for the whole world as the lake Baikal contains about 19 % of the world potable water supply. However, the ecological situation in the Republic of Buryatia is not that favourable. Nowadays, there is a tendency for the growing role of the religious leaders in the environmental problem solving. The Buddhist leaders of Buryatia in line with the given tendency also contribute to the development of the environmental thinking of the society, using arguments based on the fundamental ideas of Buddhist philosophy. Taking into account the cultural and historical characteristics of Buryatia, the Buddhist Sangha suggests quite unique and practical ways of improving the ecological situation in the republic that are of interest to researchers.
