Beans are part of the basic diet alimentation for Brazilian population, as they gather proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral salts, fibers, amino acids and essential nutrients such as iron and calcium, being a complete food that can be compared with the amount of protein that the meat has. Considering the beans world production, in development countries represent almost 50%, being that Myanmar, India and Brazil the top three position. The use of pesticides is widely spread in these countries to reduce agricultural losses due to pests that interfere with grain production. Therefore the risk that could be generated from foods pesticides residues makes their analyses of quantification mandatory. The purpose of this work was to develop an analytical method to quantitatively characterize fungicides pesticides residues, flutriafol, procymidone and tebuconazole that were used to angular spot control, anthracnose, rust and alternaria spot, white mold fungi, present in beans, by means of gas chromatography coupled with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Samples of beans, Phaseolus vulgaris L, types white, black, string and Vigna angularis, type adzuki, had been bought in grains store and supermarkets at metropolitan São Paulo city. The validation of analytical method was explored for sensitivity, selectivity, precision. The extraction procedure was performed in two different forms, QuEChERS, and solid-liquid extraction with low temperature. Through this methodology, reached below the maximum limit allowed by Brazilian law 0.5mgkg-1 for procymidone and 0.1mgkg-1 for flutriafol and tebuconazole. Several samples of four types of beans were tested and all of them had procymidone identified and 7% of samples higher than the law limit.

Abstract The cultivation of greenhouse crops is the most severe form of crop production in Iran, and vast quantities of unreasonable pesticides are being utilized to control pests. The residual level of blood pesticides and its correlation with multi- biomarkers were determined to evaluate the adverse health consequences on greenhouse workers in the Hamdan city of Iran. Participants were 180 adult males, including 90 greenhouse workers exposed to pesticides and 90 control individuals. The residue analyses revealed that 64 out of the 90 workers had residues of dichlorvos, diazinon, and chlorpyrifos in their blood serum; and 56.25% out of these workers were exposed for > 15 years period. The residues of all three pesticides were higher than the no observable adverse effect level (NOAEL) in all the exposure duration categories. Comparisons of hematological parameters showed that mean monocyte (P < 0.001), lymphocyte (P < 0.001) and platelet counts (P = 0.001), mean platelet volume (P = 0.002), and plateletcrit (PCT) (P < 0.001) were significantly higher in workers than in controls, whereas hemoglobin (HB) (P = 0.028), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentrations (MCHC) (P < 0.001) were lower in workers than controls. These results show that exposure to different pesticides was associated with alterations in some biochemical and hematological parameters. Prevention and intervention programs can be effective in eliminating pesticide-related alterations among agricultural workers.

The current work is aimed at generating information on giant crickets and the impact of commonly used pesticides on the natural population of these crickets. Data was collected based on interviews and complemented with field observations. Out of 319 respondents surveyed, 290 were aware of the use of the giant cricket as a food source, and 161 were active consumers. Regarding the availability of the giant cricket, respondents reported that the crickets’ populations were diminishing because of farming practices. About 219 persons reported that commonly used herbicides harm giant crickets at different stages. This could be attributed to the scarcity of this species, as mentioned by 233 respondents. The results showed that 130 respondents were engaged in gathering giant crickets for consumption. This insect gathering is related to soil tilling. Chi-square test showed a significant dependence relationship between herbicides use and cricket scarcity. Although less than a majority (129) of respondents are making regular use of persistent pesticides (herbicides), it has been observed that intensive use of pesticides could become a popular practice in smallholder farming categories. This paper thus suggests the need for training and surveillance concerning the trade of pesticides in the region and proposes further investigations into pesticides residues or traces in collected giant crickets consumed in the study site and in all areas with similar conditions.
