Background: The purpose of this study is to broaden the understanding of peritoneal dialysis by presenting the most-cited articles pertaining to this subject. Methods: We searched articles on the Web of Science and selected 100 articles according to the frequency of citations. Next, we reviewed the contents of the articles and identified the characteristics of these articles. Results: There are 21 journals in which the top-100 cited articles were published. The names of the journals, in the order in which the articles are cited, are as follows: Kidney International (25 articles), Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (13 articles), and Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (12 articles). The top 100-cited articles were published in 15 countries. The country with the greatest number of publications was the United States of America (19 articles). The institution with the greatest number of articles (7 articles) was the University Health Network of Toronto. The author who wrote the most number of articles (5 articles) was Davies SJ. Conclusion: This study is the first in the field of nephrology to provide a list of the top-100 cited articles dedicated to peritoneal dialysis. Through this study, the research trends and major academic interests pertaining to peritoneal dialysis would be identified.

Purpose. The current study quantitatively assessed research trends in tropical medicine in China via a bibliometric method, which used the Web of Science database to analyse the research-based literature related to tropical medicine published from 2010 to 2019. Methods. Articles were analysed according to the output and research performance of institutes and countries that collaborated with China. Distribution of keywords was applied to evaluate research trends. Results. Our findings showed that 3372 articles in the field of tropical medicine have been indexed under the Web of Science database during the past 10 years, indicating that studies pertaining to tropical medicine have been growing from 2010 to 2019. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) system, which published 549 articles on tropical medicine, may be considered as the flagship of tropical medicine in China. The United States ranked first in internationally collaborative articles with China. Furthermore, Parasite & Vectors, which published 707 papers, emerged as the top journal according to the number of publications. Conclusions. This study highlights the key institutes and topics pertaining to tropical medicine research in China. Although there has been rapid progress in research on tropical medicine in China, some gaps still remain.

The aim of the study is to estimate the effect of the Russian academic excellence project (Project 5-100) on the publication activity of the University of Tyumen, measured by the number of articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database. The hypothesis of the research is that there is a positive causal relationship between the number of published articles and the University’s participation in Project 5-100. This impact was estimated empirically for the University of Tyumen while the other university participants (31 universities) were taken as a control group. Counterfactual scenarios are used to find the number of articles that the university employees would have published in the absence of Project 5-100. Thus, it is shown that, despite the failure to meet the goal of entering the top 200 of world universities in the ranking for ecology and agricultural biology, the University of Tyumen benefited from its participation in Project 5-100: its number of publications, especially in journals of the first and second quartile, has been growing faster than in the control group of universities.

This paper aims to establish a ranking of the 50 most cited research articles pertaining to ankle surgery in the field of orthopaedics. In addition, the demographic features such as the date of publications, location of primary author and country of the publisher were all analysed. Studies similar to these have been completed in other subspecialties, however we were not able to find studies relevant to ankle surgery. The Web of Science Cor Collection Database was utilised to identify the target articles. The most cited article was cited 394 times and the least was cited 120 times, and the majority of articles were published in the United States of America. This research will benefit the scientific community in identifying popular research topics, identifying lacking fields and identifying key hubs in the field of ankle surgery.

The publication activity of the leading countries in the field of quantum technologies (QT), which include quantum computers and simulators, quantum sensors, quantum data transmission, and quantum metrology is analyzed. A general characteristic of the subject domain and scientometric analysis is carried out using the research chops from the Web of Science database covering the period 2000 – 2016. The sample of bibliographic publications is used to (i) estimate the growth rate of publications on QT in the leading countries (for the indicated period of time), (ii) identify the leading states in the number of publications (on the above-mentioned main directions of QT development), and (iii) determine the publication activity of Russia and the intensity of international cooperation. The results of the research demonstrated, that the USA and China are the leading countries in the field of quantum technologies. Regression dependences are constructed which provide forecasting and description of the functions reflecting the increasing number of publications in aforementioned countries. Using the criterion of signs and the Wilcoxon test for coupled pairs of observations, the hypothesis of significant differences in the publication activity of the United States and China was tested. Both tests at the level of significance α = 0.05 did not reveal significant discrepancies between the number of articles in the US and China on the twelve topics of the Web of Science database. At the same time, a significant advantage of American scientists in the number of publications in the field of quantum computations and creation of a universal quantum computer has been revealed. The primacy in this area is the main condition of «quantum» domination, which implies a significant acceleration of calculations, primarily, decryption of most of the algorithms used to protect information.

Tourism and climate are inextricably linked to several interactions. In recent years, there has been a greater focus on the linkages between climate change and coastal tourism. This study aims to provide an overview of the literature on climate change and coastal tourism, identify core areas of interest and important sources and authors, and examine the thematic evolution of the field. A bibliometric analysis of 92 documents related to climate change and coastal tourism published in the Web of Science Core Collection database was carried out. The analysis provides information on the most cited papers, most leading authors, the most productive countries, and the most leading institutions in this field. The study utilized the Visualization of Similarities Viewer program (VOS) to map author keyword co-occurrences, co-citations, and bibliographic coupling. The study showed that, with some fluctuations since 2008, the number of publications in this field had increased significantly. The most influential authors and most productive institutions are from the United States of America, England, Canada, and other European countries. The findings of this study will assist researchers conducting climate change and coastal tourism-related studies to understand which papers, academics, organizations, countries, and journals have a dominant influence on climate change and coastal tourism research.

The objective of this article is to identify the main characteristics of scientific research regarding the approach economic about bitcoins. This study is based on bibliometric research and network analysis, with the use of descriptive statistics in 84 articles found on the Web of Science database.  The analysis used the programs VOSviewer and Excel. The main results show that Bouri, Bouoiyour, Dyhrberg and Selmi are the authors who published most articles and that the Université de Pau (France) and the University College Dublin (Ireland) are the institutions with most publications. The journal with most publications is Plos One, which presented a 3.057 impact factor. There are only three co-authoring networks with greater expressiveness, however, there are no links between them and the others. Despite the growing number of publications on the subject, the researchs is beginning, showing a wide field of exploration.

Because of the advantages of nanoparticles (NPs) in a variety of industrial, biomedical, and consumer applications, they are intentionally (such as in medicine) or unintentionally (environment exposure) introduced into the human body. However, to date, the detrimental effects of NPs are still unclear, especially in reproductive and developmental toxicity. In this study, we researched 266 articles related to the reproductive and developmental toxicity of NPs from 2006 to December 2016 based on the database of the Web of Science. According to the bibliometric analysis, we found that China and the United States were the leading countries in this field and the major research trends might focus on the pathogenesis of NPs, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage. By this analysis, we provide new insights into the research trends and characteristics of the field.

Within the scientific literature, there has been much debate about the use of the Internet in teaching in university contexts. The potential of this tool and its educational possibilities is well documented. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the use of the Internet in university teaching from a bibliometric perspective. To analyze scientific works, scientific mapping strategies have been used; for example, exploring the co-words and co-authors in works on this topic. We have worked with an analysis unit of 5118 documents which are indexed in the Web of Science database. Among the findings of this research, it can be highlighted that most publications are in English—the topic has been thoroughly studied and works have been published in this language over time. Moreover, the United States is the country which is most productive in relation to educational and computing fields. The most relevant topics themes are “e-learning”, “systems” and “Internet of Things”.

Purpose: The main purposes of this study were to analyze the document types and languages of published papers on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), along with the top authors, publications, countries, institutions, and disciplines, and to analyze the co-occurrence of keywords and bibliographic coupling of countries and sources of the most-cited COVID-19 literature.Methods: This study analyzed 16,384 COVID-19 studies published between December 2019 and June 2020. The data were extracted from the Web of Science database using four keywords: “COVID-19,” “coronavirus,” “2019-nCoV,” and “SARS-CoV-2.” The top 500 mostcited documents were analyzed for bibliographic and citation network visualization.Results: The studies were published in 19 different languages, and English (95.313%) was the most common. Of 157 research-producing countries, the United States (25.433%) was in the leading position. Wang Y (n=94) was the top author, and the <i>BMJ</i> (n=488) was the top source. The University of London (n=488) was the leading organization, and medicine-related papers (n=2,259) accounted for the highest proportion. The co-occurrence of keywords analysis identified “coronavirus,” “COVID-19,” “SARS-CoV-2,” “2019-nCoV,” and “pneumonia” as the most frequent words. The bibliographic coupling analysis of countries and sources showed the strongest collaborative links between China and the United States and between the <i>New England Journal of Medicine</i> and the <i>JAMA</i>.Conclusion: Collaboration between the United States and China was key in COVID-19 research during this period. Although BMJ was the leading title for COVID-19 articles, the co-author link between <i>New England Journal of Medicine</i> and <i>JAMA</i> was the strongest.

Nursing professionals are constantly exposed to several risk factors and high levels of stress that can affect their mental, emotional, and physical health, which can trigger burnout syndrome. This article aims to use bibliometric analysis to investigate burnout research trends among nursing professionals worldwide and to compare the contributions of different countries/institutions, scientific journals, authors, keywords, and citations. A bibliometric study was performed using the Scopus and Web of Science databases, in the period up to November 2021, aiming to search original and review articles in the English language regarding burnout in nursing professionals. The analysis was performed with a sample of 1406 articles. The most cited article indicated that 43% of nurses had high burnout scores, and a similar percentage were dissatisfied with their work. The most productive and most cited country in the world was the United States of America. Regarding the 10 most cited documents, there were no studies that could provide interventions to reduce burnout in nursing professionals, which can result in a need to develop studies on prevention capable of mitigating the problem, in view of the impacts generated on their mental, emotional, and physical health.
