Good discourse has a coherence that binds statements involved in it based on logical thinking. In a coherent discourse, the reader finds the order thoughts which is clearly the tip of the base as a form of the regular mode of thinking of the author. Coherence is the final character of writing that reflects the perfection of the author in controlling his or her way of thinking in order to realize a discourse. Coherence in discourse can be seen primarily as the sentences involved in it are intertwined each other and the ideas flow smoothly. One sentence relation to another sentence or the smooth movement of ideas in discourse is formed by the use of certain language elements as a grammatical form that embodies the cohesiveness of a discourse. The language elements, in this case, are transitional words/phrases, pronouns, and repetitions of keywords. The use of these elements is quite important in constructing sentences that mesh and flow logically in a discourse. It also happens between a paragraph one and another paragraph in a discourse, the elements of language is a bridge that is vital for the transition of thoughts or ideas in a writer's writings.

Argumentum ad absurdum, as a way of thinking or acting which is pointless from the point of view of rationality and predictability of a human’s action, is intentionally planned in order to justify the uniqueness and thus veracity of the existence of something compared to commonly accepted standards of behaviour. The universality of these standards is questioned by introducing factors that go beyond the patterns of commonly accepted standards. In the Bible, there are also absurd situations from the point of view of human predictability which are directly attributed to God. This absurdity of God’s action, in comparison to the rights guiding pagan religions and the rationally accepted human behaviour strengthens the faith in His existence. Going beyond the area of “normalcy” proves in the strongest way that these facts, which are seemingly at variance with logical thinking, are indeed true. These facts are paradoxically a strong and durable foundation of the Christian faith.

AbstractThis paper concerns a particular grammatical construction, extraposition, and its use for assessments at points of transition between activities and topics by speakers of Finnish in ordinary conversation. A basic assumption taken here is that “recurrent clausal constructions of a language are social action formats for that language” (Thompson 2006), and that grammatical constructions such as clause types are learned and therefore routinized responses to certain types of interactional contingencies, and, at the same time, emergent from the current local context (Hopper 1987; Helasvuo 2001).The paper combines the two central perspectives developed in this issue, sequential design and dialogicality, with the study of grammar-in-interaction. It shows that the grammatical form of the Finnish extraposition construction emerges from its use by speakers for the creation of intersubjectivity through reproduction of prior talk and for the projection of stance taking to follow.

Si Ganjua Lalai dance work is a picture of Minangkabau women who besides having strength also has tenderness. Si Ganjua Lalai is an expression for the Minangkabau girl who portrays the Minangkabau female personality who is gentle yet firm, wise and acts upon the truth. Si Ganjua Lalai dance work originated from visual stimuli that is when getting information from the story of Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih in the form of the saying “alua tataruang patah tigo, Samuik tapijak indak mati ”. From the saying goes that Minang women in addition to having strength also has a tenderness. The foundation of creation used is creativity and choreography. Creativity approach is used because the creation of art cannot be separated from the process of thinking and working creatively. Through this approach the way of thinking and how to work creatively will be built. The second approach is choreography, which is used as a foundation in creating aesthetic dance that includes gestures, composition, unity and harmony, as well as other aspects of behavior and visual.

This chapter considers the problem of thinking singular existences as they are formed from the outside. Existence can only be encountered by the mechanism of the double advance, a dual motion that depends on the relations of existences in an existential field. In a central polyvocal section called “Coalitions,” the concept of the adventurous coalition is proposed to explain the creation of trans-jects, or subjective trajectories, through relation. This chapter also considers the implications of this new atopian trans-ject for both freedom and language. Finally, this chapter takes up the question of the trans-ject in the case of animals: Posing the subject as the repetition of an existential trans-ject, Neyrat argues, offers a way of thinking existence in its multiplicity, unpredictability, and eccentricity.

Chapter 7, ‘Biopolitics of Seriality’ considers the political possibilities that were released or inaugurated in the 1840s by this structure of seriality. It takes the whole run of Howitt’s Journal as its ‘serial’ case study and uses this liberal journal to think about how seriality was becoming increasingly important to the creation and maintenance of what we might now call biopolitics. Through its serial repetition of exemplary narratives of injustice around gender, race, class and age, Howitt’s Journal unconsciously reveals the profound connection between these constructs. Tracking the representation of children, slaves and the Irish across the run of the journal, partly through its use of work by Elizabeth Gaskell and Frederick Douglass, this chapter suggests that we need to develop a more complex way of thinking about the developing relationship between kinship, citizenship, and biopolitics at this critical historical moment.

Logical thinking is a way of thinking that leads a person to be able to make correct statements and decisions based on logic and rationale. This skill is indispensable in communicating and writing scientific papers. Based on preliminary observations made, this is one of the obstacles experienced by PPKn teachers in Magetan in scientific writing. Therefore, through this logical thinking exercise, efforts were made to strengthen the logical thinking skills of teachers who are members of the MGMP PPKn Magetan. In accordance with that, the purpose of this service activity is to increase teacher understanding of the rules of logical thinking and increase the ability of teachers to think logically in the context of scientific writing. The activity which was attended by 25 PPKn teachers was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Magetan, with stages: revealing fallacy in thinking through exercises, discussions about logical thinking fallacies, strengthening logical thinking rules, and logic-based writing exercises. This service activity has been successful in improving the basics of the teacher's ability to think logically. The teacher better understands that in writing, careful thinking logic is needed, the ability to compose simple logical writing also increases, but to be able to write scientifically that can be published, further training and assistance is needed.

Ernst Widmer considered himself a Brazilian citizen, a Brazilian composer who was born and educated in Switzerland but who bloomed in the tropics. Actually, the theme of the cultural crossing was of great importance for the elaboration of his way of thinking and of composing. He dedicated almost all his entire life to the School of Music of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), where he taught between 1956 and 1987. During that period, he had a decisive role in turning Salvador into one of the most important centers of contemporary music in Brazil. In particular, he was in charge of the formation of composers, making this activity the basis for his intense artistic performance, which resulted in the composition of about two hundred opuses and thirty-one awards. He exerted great influence on his students and several of them became well known composers, and he also gave extreme value to singularity as a pedagogical parameter, having inspired the creation of the Group of Composers from Bahia in 1966, whose manifest of just one line rejected as a principle any declared principles. After his retirement in 1987, he renewed his ties with his native city in Switzerland, debuting several of his pieces and participating in the creation of the Ernst Widmer Gesellschaft dedicated to promoting his music.

The hypotactic structural relation between clauses plays an important role in improving the discourse coherence of document-level translation. However, the standard neural machine translation (NMT) models do not explicitly model the hypotactic relationship between clauses, which usually leads to structurally incorrect translations of long and complex sentences. This problem is particularly noticeable on Chinese-to-English translation task of complex sentences due to the grammatical form distinction between English and Chinese. English is rich in grammatical form (e.g. verb morphological changes and subordinating conjunctions) while Chinese is poor in grammatical form. These linguistic phenomena make it a challenge for NMT to learn the hypotactic structure knowledge from Chinese as well as the structure alignment between Chinese and English. To address these issues, we propose to model the hypotactic structure for Chinese-to-English complex sentence translation by introducing hypotactic structure knowledge. Specifically, we annotate and build a hypotactic structure aligned parallel corpus that provides rich hypotactic structure knowledge for NMT. Moreover, we further propose a structure-infused neural framework to combine the hypotactic structure knowledge with the NMT model through two integrating strategies. In particular, we introduce a specific structure-aware loss to encourage the NMT model to better learn the structure knowledge. Experimental results on WMT17, WMT18 and WMT19 Chinese-to-English translation tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This article explores the potential contribution of a biographical, phenomenological and performative approach to the study of material images in the past through a particular study case: the warrior statues from the so-called ‘Castro culture’ in northwestern Iberia. The aim is to provide a different way of thinking, as opposed to the traditional conceptions that have prevailed in archaeological research, taking into account what material forms enable the construction of the social at a micro-scale level. To this end, the author analyses how these statues actively build their own meaning and sense in the socio-material contexts where they belong; and how, in this process, their materiality partakes in the creation and maintenance of indigenous identity and sociality.
