Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran kepala sekolah dalam pengembangan kompetensi profesional guru di SMP Negeri 4 Pakem Kabupaten Sleman terkait dengan peran kepala sekolah dan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, evaluasi program pengembangan kompetensi profesional guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data yang digunakan model Miles & Huberman, yang meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) perencanaan pengembangan kompetensi profesional guru dilakukan dengan pembentukan team; (2) jenis pengembangan kompetensi profesional guru yaitu penguasaan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi dalam pembelajaran; (3) melakukan evaluasi dengan membuat form/angket penilaian guru terhadap proses pembelajaran di kelas yang diisi oleh siswa; (4) peran kepala sekolah sebagai: (a) pendidik; (b) manajer; (c) administrator; (d) supervisor; (e) peran sosial (f) penggiat kewirausahaan; (g) pemimpin; dan (h) pencipta iklim. Kata kunci: peran kepala sekolah, pengembangan, kompetensi profesional guru THE PRINCIPAL’S ROLE IN DEVELOPING TEACHER COMPETENCY IN PUBLIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Abstract This study aims to describe the principal's role in developing professional competence of teachers in SMP Negeri 4 Pakem Sleman, related to the role of principal’s and the planning, implementation, evaluation of teacher professional competence development program. This study used a qualitative approach, with a case study type. The research data were collected through observation, interviews and study documentation. The data analysis is model of Miles & Huberman, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Results of the study: (1) the planning of teachers professional competence development is done by forming a team; (2) the type of teachers professional competence development is mastery the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in learning; (3) evaluates by making a form/questionnaire assessment of the teachers in the classroom learning process which is filled by the students; (4) the principal's role as (a) educators; (b) manager; (c) administrator; (d) supervisor; (e) social role; (f) leader; (g) entrepreneur; dan (h) creator of the climate. This study is to describe how the principal's strategy for developing teacher professional competence at Islamic Junior High School Al- Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung, Deli Serdang Regency, is one way to develop the quality of teacher professionalism and achieve educational goals. The type of research used is a type of qualitative research with a naturalistic approach. Collecting research data obtained by observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data analysis step is to collect data, reduce the data and then conclude the data. To test the validity of the data, credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability were carried out. The findings of this study reveal three related findings: 1) Principal's strategy towards teacher professional competence development in Islamic Junior High School Al- Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung 2) The principal's actions on teacher professional competence development programs in Islamic Junior High School Al- Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung 3) Supporting factors and inhibiting factors for the development of teacher professional competence in Islamic Junior High School Al- Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung. The results of this study concluded that the principal's strategy for developing teacher professional competence at Islamic Junior High School Al- Jam'iyatul Washliyah Tembung was carried out well and continued to improve to achieve better goals in the future

Supervisor of Islamic Education is one component that has an important role in improving the quality of education. The tasks of the supervisor of Islamic education is to improve the competence of Islamic education teachers in schools to produce quality and professional teachers. This study aims to determine what is the role of Islamic education supervisors in improving pedagogical competence and professional competence of Islamic education teachers in Private Junior High School in District of Sidoarjo, Sidoarjo. The researcher used a qualitative approach with collection data methods such as interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis method used an interactive model (plot) of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion or verification. From the results of the study it was found that the role of the supervisor of Islamic education in improving the pedagogical competence of Islamic Education teachers in Private Junior High School in District of Sidoarjo, Sidoarjo had been done well through several ways such as supervision in learning planning, ability in student learning processes and outcomes, ability to utilize resources learning, the ability to develop student potential. Whereas the role of the supervisor of Islamic education in enhancing the professional competence of Islamic Education teachers in Private Junior High School in District of Sidoarjo, Sidoarjo has been fulfilled through several ways, namely providing assistance for teachers in preparing RPP and monitoring of teaching and learning activities in the classroom.

This study aims to describe the role of the principal in the implementation of academic supervision, the results and obstacles of academic supervision in improving the professionalism of teachers of SMP Negeri in MuaraTelang, Banyuasin District. This research uses qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The location of this research is SMP Negeri in MuaraTelangBanyuasin District. Data collection was carried out using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis using data reduction techniques, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Checking the validity of the findings is done by observing persistence, triangulation and reference adequacy. The results of this study explain the positive and significant role of principal academic supervision in improving the professionalism of teachers of SMP Negeri in MuaraTelang District, Banyuasin. Through discussion of the implementation of academic supervision, the results of academic supervision, and the inhibiting factors for academic supervision of school principals. The results of the supervision carried out by the principal of the State Junior High School in MuaraTelangBanyuasin District were able to improve teacher professionalism in pedagogic competence, personality competence, professional competence and social competence.

The teacher has a vital and fundamental role as an agent of change in helping and guiding students in the process of changing from not knowing to knowing, not understanding to understanding, not mastering to mastering and so on. Such circumstances indicate that it is appropriate to improve the professional competence of teachers. The purpose of this study is to describe the professional competence of junior high school teachers. The research method used is qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. Data validation is done through triangulation, with analysis of data flow methods with the process: data collection, data reduction, then presented, followed by conclusions and verification. The results showed that the professional competence of teachers showed an average of 1.33 in poor condition. Specifically if related to teacher perceptions, it can be seen from the competencies about personality and competencies about carrying out tasks. Perspesi regarding personality is related to work discipline, work morality, loyalty, responsibility and human relations, while the perception of competence in carrying out tasks is related to work suitability andfluency in carrying out tasks.

Guru merupakan faktor kunci mutu pendidikan dan kemajuan sebuah bangsa. Negara yang kurang memperhatikan tenaga pendidiknya akan sulit maju, karena kualitas generasi penerus di tentukan oleh guru. Untuk itu, tujuan dalam artikel ini adalah menjelaskan peran kepala sekolah dalam memotivasi guru honorer untuk meningkatkan kualitas kompetensi profesionalitas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Jenis wawancara yang di gunakan adalah wawancara terstruktur, dan tidak terstruktur. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan dampak bahwa peran kepala sekolah dalam memotivasi guru honorer dapat meningkatkan kualitas kompetensi profesionalitas dengan cara menggunakan strategi pengembengan kompetensi profesionalitas guru berupa memberi motivasi, mengevaluasi kinerja guru secara berkala, memberikan pembinaan dan penguatan kepada guru, dan memberikan pelatihan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi melalui seminar, FGD, pelatihan dan workshop kompetensi profesionalitas. The teacher is a critical factor in the quality of education and the progress of a nation. Countries that pay less attention to their educators will find it challenging to progress because the teacher determines the next generation's rate. For this reason, the purpose of this article is to explain the role of school principals in motivating honorary teachers to improve the quality of professional competence. The method used in this research is qualitative research methods. Data collection methods in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. The type of talk that is used is structured and unstructured interviews. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis. The results of this study have an impact that the role of the principal in motivating honorary teachers can improve the quality of professional competence by using a strategy of developing teacher professional competence in the form of encouraging, evaluating teacher performance regularly, providing guidance, and strengthening to teachers, and providing training to improve competence through seminars, FGDs, training and professional competency workshops.

A principal has an important role in improving teacher’s competence. This qualitative research with a case study approach aimed to reveal school principal’s role in increasing teacher pedagogical and professional competence in Muhammadiyah elementary school of Macanan, Sleman and Muhammadiyah elementary school of Al-Mujahidin, Gunungkidul. The research subject was the school principal and teachers. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation, then were analyzed using the stages of data collection, data reduction, data representation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the role of the school principal in increasing teacher pedagogical and professional competence was as a manager, leader, and innovator. As a manager, the school principal planned the program by detailing educators need and education staff, planning curriculum, and planning a policy for ad-ding the subject of guidance and counselling. As a leader, the school principal set the targets regarding class management and arranged a briefing, while as an innovator, the school principal emphasized the importance of innovation of information technology-based learning and class management. The three roles of the school principal impacted on teacher competence in conducting fun and meaningful learning, class management, the use of information technology in learning, the mastery of the material and student development. This research finding recommends Indonesia’s educational stakeholders to formulate the teacher’s competence development program.

This study aims to look at the role of empowerment Science Teachers Association (MGMP IPA) in improving the Professional competence of science teachers in the city of Dumai, Indonsia. This type of research was descriptive qualitative. The population of this study were all teachers in MGMP IPA Dumai. The research sample was 70 teachers who were members of the MGMP IPA Dumai. Data collection technique were using questionaires and test. The result showed that average professional ability of the teachers was 74 in good categories, pedagogical average was 61 in the moderate category and PCK was 56 in the moderate category. This shows that MGMP IPA Dumai has not fully played a role in increasing the professional competence of teachrers.
