The research paper examines the role of entrepreneurs in solid waste management sector at developing smart city Dharamshala of Himachal Pradesh. The day to day human activities produce household wastes i.e. solid and liquid, among which solid waste is the one which needs to be managed very carefully. The research was conducted at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh which is a renowned tourist place. The survey was based on stratified systematic random sampling as the data was collected from every ward of Dharamshala city. The primary data was collected by circulating a questionnaire to the households and secondary data was collected from secondary data resources available both online and offline. The findings revealed that people dispose their household waste by themselves and there are no garbage collection services initiated by municipal corporation Dharamshala. The study explores the opportunities for new entrepreneurs in the field of household solid waste management, since Door to Door (D2D) services are not provided for garbage collection. These entrepreneurs can earn by garbage collection as most of people find no time in disposing their household waste to government authorized dumping sites or government run electric dustbins. The earnings by D2D services can vary between Rs. 2,57,970to Rs.10,97,800. The study reveals that most of the people dispose their household waste at open dumping sites or in plastic bins provided by government instead of government run electric dustbins. The reason behind is lack of awareness in using government run electric dustbins, choked underground dustbins and not following the practice of waste separation. If, municipality Dharamshala would start disposal plants, problem of poor waste management can be solved better.

The secondary data were collected from various publications of the state government, and the primary data were collected for the agricultural year 2016-17 from 60 tomato growers from Sadar block of Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh. The results revealed that compound growth rates in the area, production and productivity of tomato in Bilaspur district were 0.49, 2.02 and 1.52 percent, respectively, whereas it was 1.68, 4.46 and 2.73 percent in Himachal Pradesh. The cropping pattern revealed that 10.48 percent of the cropped area was under tomato at an overall level. The average yield of tomato crops was found to be higher in the case of large farmers. The net returns over variable cost were ₹249361 per ha, and the output-input ratio stood at 2.21:1. It was found that all costs declined with the size of the holding, mainly due to economies of scale. Further, it was found that the returns over total and variable cost were higher on large farms than on small farms. Vegetable growing (mainly tomato) contributed 32.21 percent to the total annual gross household income at an overall level. Uncontrolled urbanization particularly in developing cities has exerted enormous pressure on green infrastructure which has led to their conscious and unconscious conversion to other land uses. This study investigates the residents’ satisfaction and awareness on the use of green infrastructure (GI) with a view to creating a functional environment. Primary data were obtained from field observations where 166 pretested questionnaires were administered in a stratified random sampling manner on the respondents while secondary data were obtained from conventional sources. Data analysis made use of computations of the Residents’ Satisfaction Index (RSI) and principal component analysis. Results revealed that RSI was highest at 2.60; lowest at 1.93 and average at 2.29 while the deviations from the mean of the highest and the lowest RSI were +0.31 and -0.04. The factor analysis generated four (4) underlying dimensions of the respondents’ view on GI, which made good conceptual sense and explained a total variable of 72.24% of the observed variance. The factors on GI were named as; awareness (27.8%), management (19.98%), provision (13.34%) and type (11.12%). The planning implication is that efforts should be made to increase residents’ satisfaction on variables with low RSI on GI to promote recreation, environmental awareness, beauty, flood reduction and the fight against climate change to uphold an environment that is in harmony with nature.

Increased competition and technological breakthroughs in banking services has sidelined the customer focus and opened new vistas of managing figures of success not only to show past performance rather as a strategy to sustain in business. This has led to many practices in banking as non standardized services. The non- core businesses subsidizing the core businesses on failure fronts also cause this deviation. Performance of any organization is one of the mechanisms to gain people's commitment towards achieving the stated objectives of the organization. This study is an attempt to address the questions, which includes: (a) the different performance measurement systems adopted by Indian companies in banking services; (b) the approaches used to measure the performance of the organization in banking services in India; (c) the different factors distorting the PMS of the organization and (d) the effectiveness of PMS and need for the change in the existing PMS. This study also aims to establish an equation between performance measurement practices and environmental variables in Indian banking services. The primary data as well as secondary data has been used to decipher the trends in performance measurement practices in banking services in India. The empirical study deciphers the trend used to identify the potential of banking services in context of economic and social changes underway in India. Although, banking industry is lagging behind in the level of understanding of performance measurement system, but the sector realizes the importance of effective PMS for the organization. The different banking companies are found to use different approaches to measure the performance. The performance measurement systems adopted by Indian companies are also found to be different than that followed by multinational banks. The role of social, economic and cultural factors is being realized by most of the service providers in India. Therefore, the development of performance measurement practices in this dynamic world is need of banking service business.
