Abstract Background It is unknown whether moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in bouts of <10 minutes protects against disability risks or if only 10 minutes bouts of MVPA is critical. Additionally, it is unclear whether light physical activity (LPA) or its accumulation patterns is associated with functional disability. Methods A total of 1,687 adults aged ≥65 years and without functional disability at baseline were followed up for 6 years. Functional disability was identified using the database of Japan’s Long-term Care Insurance System. Physical activity was measured using a tri-axial accelerometer secured to the waist. Results Functional disability was identified in 274 participants (16.2%). When examined as quartiles, higher levels of all MVPA measures were dose-dependently associated with lower risk of functional disability. Associations of MVPA in ≥10 and <10 minutes bouts remained significant in a mutually adjusted model. Neither total LPA nor LPA in bout of ≥10 minutes, but LPA in bouts of <10 minutes was associated with functional disability. Analyses using restricted cubic spline functions showed that associations of all MVPA measures and LPA in bouts of <10 minutes with functional disability were linear (p for nonlinear >.05). The hazard ratios (HRs; 95% confidence interval [CI]) for functional disability per 10 minutes increment of total MVPA and LPA in bout of <10 minutes were 0.86 (0.81–0.92) and 0.96 (0.93–0.99), respectively. Conclusions Higher MVPA, regardless accumulation patterns, or LPA in bouts of <10 minutes was associated with lower risk of functional disability in a linear dose–response manner in older adults.

This study examines the relationship between physical activity in sport and feelings of well-being, testing alternative interpretations of the relationship between these two variables. It was expected that there would be positive relationships between physical activity on the one hand and physical fitness, feelings of well-being, social interaction in the sport and exercise environment, and socioeconomic status on the other hand. It was also expected that physical fitness, social interaction, and socioeconomic status would be positively related to psychological well-being. Further, it was expected that any positive zero-order relationship of physical activity and well-being would be at least in part a result of the conjoint effects of the other variables. The analyses were conducted separately for the male and female subsamples of a large survey study of Canadian adults. The results, after controls, show a modest positive relationship of physical activity and well-being for males but no such relationship for females. The predicted independent effects of the control factors obtained for both males and females. Interpretations of the results are discussed.

ABSTRACTSmartphone is one of the telecommunication equipment, nowadays has become a must-have for everyone. Unfortunately, people do not realize that smartphone use have a negative impact in the form of nomophobia. Nomophobia is a person's anxiety if they cannot access their smartphone. College students are a group that can also be affected by nomophobia. This study aimed to find out the picture of nomophobia in final level students of FKM PSDKU Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi. The population used weres 41 people. The research design used descriptive quantitative studies with a cross sectional approach. The research was conducted by providing google form related to Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q). The results showed that students with the number of 4 people (9.76%) have mild nomophobia and 37 people (90.24%) have moderate nomophobia. The conclusion of the results obtained that all college students of the final level of FKM PSDKU Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi experienced nomophobia. It is recommended for students to increase physical activity and social interaction and set a daily schedule of activities in order to do more activities without using a smartphone.Keywords: Nomophobia, Smartphone, Final Students ABSTRAKPonsel pintar sebagai salah satu alat telekomunikasi, saat ini telah menjadi barang wajib untuk dimiliki setiap orang. Sayangnya manusia tidak menyadari bahwa penggunaan ponsel pintar memiliki dampak negatif berupa nomophobia. Nomophobia merupakan suatu kecemasan seseorang apabila tidak dapat mengakses ponsel pintarnya. Mahasiswa merupakan suatu kalangan yang juga bisa terdampak nomophobia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran nomophobia pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir FKM PSDKU Universitas Airlangga di Banyuwangi. Jumlah populasi yang digunakan adalah sejumlah 41 orang. Desain penelitian menggunakan studi deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian dilakukan dengan memberikan google form terkait Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q). Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan jumlah 4 orang (9,76%) mengalami nomophobia ringan dan 37 orang (90,24%) mengalami nomophobia sedang. Kesimpulan dari hasil yang didapatkan bahwa seluruh mahasiswa tingkat akhir FKM PSDKU Universitas Airlangga di Banyuwangi mengalami nomophobia. Disarankan terhadap mahasiswa untuk memperbanyak aktivitas fisik dan interaksi sosial serta mengatur jadwal kegiatan harian agar dapat lebih melakukan aktivitas tanpa menggunakan ponsel pintar.Kata Kunci: Nomophobia, Ponsel pintar, Mahasiswa tingkat akhir.

Abstract Objective This study examined the association between daily physical activity and functional disability incidence in community-dwelling older adults with chronic pain. Design Prospective cohort study. Setting Japanese community. Subjects Of the 5,257 participants enrolled for baseline assessment, data on the 693 participants who had chronic lower back or knee pain and underwent daily physical activity assessment using an accelerometer were analyzed. Methods Participants were assessed for regular physical activity (step counts, moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity duration, and light-intensity physical activity duration) using an accelerometer at baseline and were followed up for monthly functional disability incidence, based on the national long-term care insurance system, for approximately two years. We determined the effect of physical activity cutoff points on functional disability incidence using receiver operating characteristic curves and Youden index. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to analyze associations between the cutoff points and disability incidence. Results Among the 693 participants with chronic pain, 69 (10.0%) developed functional disability during the follow-up period. Participants with lower physical activity levels showed significantly higher risk of disability. After adjusting for all covariates, functional disability was associated with step counts (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.79, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.02–3.14) and moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity duration (HR = 2.02, 95% CI = 1.16–3.51) but had no relationship with light-intensity physical activity duration (HR = 1.72, 95% CI = 0.97–3.05). Conclusions Maintenance of physical activity with at least moderate intensity may be effective in preventing disability even among older adults with chronic pain.

Background Physical activity (PA) is critical for maintaining independence and delaying mobility disability in aging adults. However, 27 to 44% of older adults in the United States are meeting the recommended PA level. Activity trackers are proving to be a promising tool to promote PA adherence through activity tracking and enhanced social interaction features. Although social support has been known to be an influential behavior change technique to promote PA, how middle-aged and older adults use the social interaction feature of mobile apps to provide virtual support to promote PA engagement remains mostly underexplored. Objective This study aimed to describe the social support patterns of middle-aged and older adults using a mobile app as part of a behavioral PA intervention. Methods Data from 35 participants (mean age 61.66 [SD 6] years) in a 12-week, home-based activity intervention were used for this secondary mixed method analysis. Participants were provided with a Jawbone Up24 activity monitor and an Apple iPad Mini installed with the UP app to facilitate self-monitoring and social interaction. All participants were given an anonymous account and encouraged to interact with other participants using the app. Social support features included comments and likes. Thematic coding was used to identify the type of social support provided within the UP app and characterize the levels of engagement from users. Participants were categorized as superusers or contributors, and passive participants were categorized as lurkers based on the literature. Results Over the 12-week intervention, participants provided a total of 3153 likes and 1759 comments. Most participants (n=25) were contributors, with 4 categorized as superusers and 6 categorized as lurkers. Comments were coded as emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, self-talk, and other, with emotional support being the most prevalent type. Conclusions Our cohort of middle-aged and older adults was willing to use the social network feature in an activity app to communicate with anonymous peers. Most of our participants were contributors. In addition, the social support provided through the activity app followed social support constructs. In sum, PA apps are a promising tool for delivering virtual social support to enhance PA engagement and have the potential to make a widespread impact on PA promotion. Abstract Regular physical activity, dietary variety, and active social participation are modifiable and influential factors of adverse health outcomes. However, the cumulative effects of these behaviors are unknown. We examined these cumulative associations with active life loss in older adults. We analyzed 3-year longitudinal data from 7246 initially non-disabled residents aged 65-84 years from 18 districts of Ota City, Tokyo. Sufficiency of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) of ≥150 minutes/week, dietary variety score (DVS) of ≥3, and social participation of ≥1 time/month were assessed using self-administered questionnaires. We operationally defined active life loss for individuals as being newly certified for long-term care insurance or death without prior certification. Multilevel survival analyses were applied to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). During an average follow-up of 2.9 years, the cumulative incidence of active life loss was 11.3% (817 individuals: 650 new certifications and 167 deaths without prior certification). Multivariate-adjusted HRs (95% CIs) for active life loss were 0.73 (0.58-0.92) in only MVPA of ≥150 minutes/week, 0.88 (0.67-1.15) in only DVS of ≥3, 0.75 (0.51-1.09) in only social participation of ≥1 time/month, 0.56 (0.45-0.70) in the group satisfying any two, and 0.52 (0.40-0.67) in the group satisfying all three behaviors, compared with a reference group that did not satisfy any of the behaviors. Sensitivity analysis that excluded active life losses during the first year showed similar results. The combination of regular physical activity, dietary variety, and social participation further enhances the effects on active life expectancy than individual practices.
