This article reviews the relative position of art in special education curriculums, summarizes existent research literature related to art and the mentally retarded, and presents the beginnings of a structured, sequential, behaviorally based art program for educable retarded children. The curriculum model proposed includes a method of assessing the individual's increment of learning in the areas of visual analysis, perceptual discrimination, self awareness, and self concept. Brief descriptions of three introductory lesson plans and an abbreviated synopsis of activities from the unit on self awareness and self concept are included as illustrative material.

This article presents a categorical method for analyzing the complex processes of personal identity. Human experiences are a result of conscious generalizations that dominate culture and are fixed in semantic categories. The rapid transformation of society fragments a life into many identifying parameters. Therefore, «a self-concept» and a semantic category of being may not be consistent with each other. The harmonious level of self-organization is manifested in the sensory coherence of people: an intention and an expectation. And fragmentation is a chaos of self-awareness and loss of an emotional stability. In a complicating society, the identity of a person becomes multiple and ambiguous. These studies will determine not only the social level of human self-organization, but begin the search for a method to maintain them. The article attempts to consider a categorical method for analyzing the self-identification properties of a people.

Abstract The present study investigated incarceration as a possible triggering factor of self-concept transformations. Self-concept consists of a set of multiple dimensions organized hierarchically functioning as cognitive schemas. It is a structural complex product of reflective activity, and it is susceptible to changes as the individual encounters new situations, life transitions, and social roles. To investigate the transformations in the self-concept structure, 150 incarcerated women responded to the Feminine Inventory of the Self-Concept's Gender Schemas, Self-Concept Clarity Scale and Situational Self-Awareness Scale. The results showed dynamic and multidimensional organization of self-concept in the women investigated, including various categories of the self. The elements analyzed indicate that prison, an undesirable life event in adulthood, is a driver of transformations in the dynamics of self-concept.

The monograph presents the generalized results of the author's scientific activity related to the diagnosis and phenomenological description of the state of self-consciousness and the Self-concept of persons with developmental disorders, in particular with mild mental retardation. The variants of self-awareness diagnostics and a comprehensive assessment of the personal adaptive potential of subjects of different ages with intellectual disabilities are presented and methodologically justified. The presented methods allow us to form an individual adaptive profile based on a quantitative assessment of qualitative indicators of adaptability/maladaptivity. The content aspects of the formation of the antisocial potential of a person with mild mental retardation, in particular, the problems of suggestibility, indoctrination and the participation of persons with intellectual disabilities in criminal communities, are separately identified. It will be useful for students, postgraduates, researchers and practitioners in the field of pedagogy, psychology, law.

Through a personal narrative account, this paper explores the nature of the author’s cognitive dissonance experienced during a traverse of a high-altitude ski mountaineering objective (Nevado Ishinca 5530 m) in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca. The author experienced psychological discomfort in the ascent and a role of self in determining a continued commitment with the ski mountaineering challenge. Distraction, trivialization, act rationalization and finally attitude change were all used in attempt to reduce negative levels of cognitive dissonance. The lack of consonant cognitions to support abandoning the climb, the notion of free choice, the role of self-concept and self-esteem values motivated continued commitment until the negative levels of arousal subsided. Through a challenging mountaineering experience, I developed a greater self-awareness of the role of commitment to an objective which could be applied to other life events and experiences.

This investigation aims to identify the personal features and psychological status of the unemployed person and the ways of work with people who are currently unemployed. This article is about unemployed person characteristics under self-concept. Also, this article includes scientific and theoretical representations about a “fully functioning” person by the emotional, cognitive and behavioural components of self-awareness. The results of unemployed person research are presented based on the result analysis and observation. For example, 3% of unemployed people consider that they have a deficient level of efficiency. Lower than average level of efficiency has 8,5% of the interview. Working qualities as very high considered 46% of men and 26% of women. Higher than average ability to work considered 76% of men and 68% of women. Also, 8% of men and 5% of women rate themselves as adventurous people. As people with low entrepreneurship, rate themselves about 55% of all unemployed. Also, 28% of people rated their mental state as satisfied, and only 6% - as confident and optimistic. Only one-third of the unemployed (34%) are in a subjectively favourable state of affairs, while the remaining 66% feel some negative experiences. It is important to mention that the construct of self-concept is appropriate to use in determining the goals of correction and development work. Corrective and development work involves a set of activities aimed at psychological support and elimination of negative aspects in the psychology of the unemployed person.

Self-confidence is a very important aspect of our lives. Everyone is different from one another, each has a unique character attached to him. From that difference, it can be seen that there are people who are confident, but there are also people who lack confidence. Because with us lacking in confidence, we will miss the opportunities that exist in this life, such as work. Self-confidence also makes a person nervous, anxious, difficult to interact socially and unable to find self-concept. From the above, as if self-confidence is the root of life because it determines the thoughts and activities that we will do everyday. Self-confidence is influenced by internal factors and external factors. External factors are family environment, friend environment and work. A person's confidence and character influences all aspects of a person's life, such as finance, work, social life and others. Internal factors of lack of confidence are self-concept, self-esteem, and life experience. Confidence (confidence) determines how a person will judge and respect him personally. Self-confidence is a belief in the ability of yourself to achieve something and can accept self-deficiencies so that these deficiencies become a strength in us. Whereas according to Hurlocks, Confidence (self-confidence) is an attitude in someone who can / can accept reality, develop self-awareness, think positively, have independence, & have the ability to have everything that is desired. To develop self-confidence, we need to improve self concept, ability and social interaction. AbstrakKepercayaan diri merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dalam kehidupan kita. Setiap orang berbeda satu dan lainnya, masing-masing memiliki karakter yang khas melekat pada dirinya. Dari perbedaan itulah, dapat diketahui bahwa terdapat orang yang percaya diri, namun ada pula orang yang kurang percaya diri. Karena dengan kita kurang percaya diri, kita akan melewatkan kesempatan-kesempatan yang ada dalam kehidupan ini, misalnya pekerjaan. Kepercayaan diri juga membuat seseorang bersikap gugup, cemas, sulit untuk berinteraksi sosial dan tidak dapat untuk menemukan konsep diri. Dari hal di atas, seakan-akan kepercayaan diri merupakan akar dari kehidupan karena hal ini menentukan pikiran dan aktivitas yang akan kita lakukan sehari-hari. Kepercayaan diri diperngaruhi oleh faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Faktor eksternal yaitu  lingkungan keluarga, lingkungan teman dan pekerjaan. Kepercayaan diri dan karakter seseorang mempengaruhi segala aspek kehidupan seseorang, misalnya finansial, pekerjaan, kehidupan sosial dan lain-lain. Faktor internal dari kurangnya kepercayaan diri yaitu konsep diri, harga diri, dan pengalaman hidup. Rasa percaya diri(confidence) menentukan bagaimana seseorang akan menilai dan menghargai dirinya pribadi. Kepercayaan diri merupakan keyakinan akan kemampuan diri sendiri untuk mencapai suatu hal dan dapat menerima kekurangan diri sehingga menjadikan kekurangan tersebut menjadi kekuatan dalam diri kita. Sedangkan menurut Hurlocks, Confidence(kepercayaan diri) merupakan sikap pada diri seseorang yang dapat/ bisa menerima kenyataan, mengembangkan kesadaran diri, berpikir positif, memiliki kemandirian,& mempunyai kemampuan untuk memiliki segala sesuatu yang diinginkan.Untuk mengembangkan kepercayaan diri, kita perlu meningkatkan meningkatkan konsep diri, kemampuan dan interaksi sosial.

<p>One of the most psychic elements plays a role in the development<br />of individual personality is the self concept, which is an overall self-concept<br />self image that includes a person’s perception of himself, feelings, beliefs,<br />and values associated with him. The self concept is an important aspect in a<br />person, in which the self concept is a frame of reference to interact with the<br />environment. When people perceive themselves, give meaning and shape<br />abstraction assessment of him means he showed self-awareness and the ability<br />to get out of myself to see him as he did to the world outside himself.<br />The process of development of self-concept often experience problems when<br />should collide with the physical and psychological conditions that do not<br />support. This is as it occurs in the disability children. Barriers that often arise<br />in the process of development for disability children often result in low quality<br />of their self-concept. Negative self-concept in disability children are often<br />influenced by various factors such as the refusal of parents, teachers, friends<br />and society. Then the required education and put more stress on approaches<br />that are emotional in educational services for disability children that can be<br />played by educators, psychologists, and community that contribute to the<br />formation of a positive self-concept. The success of disability children in the<br />form of positive self concept will bring opportunities for disability children to<br />be more independent and confident that they are capable of self-actualization<br />is better in their lives.</p>
