Background The advancement of health care information technology and the emergence of artificial intelligence has yielded tools to improve the quality of various health care processes. Few studies have investigated employee perceptions of artificial intelligence implementation in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian world. In addition, limited studies investigated the effect of employee knowledge and job title on the perception of artificial intelligence implementation in the workplace. Objective The aim of this study was to explore health care employee perceptions and attitudes toward the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in health care institutions in Saudi Arabia. Methods An online questionnaire was published, and responses were collected from 250 employees, including doctors, nurses, and technicians at 4 of the largest hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Results The results of this study showed that 3.11 of 4 respondents feared artificial intelligence would replace employees and had a general lack of knowledge regarding artificial intelligence. In addition, most respondents were unaware of the advantages and most common challenges to artificial intelligence applications in the health sector, indicating a need for training. The results also showed that technicians were the most frequently impacted by artificial intelligence applications due to the nature of their jobs, which do not require much direct human interaction. Conclusions The Saudi health care sector presents an advantageous market potential that should be attractive to researchers and developers of artificial intelligence solutions.

Objective: Little is known about the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) among the health care workers in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the psychological impact of COVID-19 among the health care workers. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from May till mid-July among 389 health care workers from government and private hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Data was collected using a pre-structured online questionnaire that measured adverse psychological outcomes, including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale. The Pearson chi-square test was used to assess the distribution of depression and anxiety among health care workers. Results: A high level of anxiety was recorded among the health care workers, and 69.3% of health care workers below the age of 40 were found to have depression. There was a significant increase in depression among staff with chronic health problems (72.1% vs. 61.9%; p = 0.048). High anxiety levels were detected among young staff compared to others (68.7% vs. 43.8%; p = 0.001). Moreover, 82.1% of the female staff were anxious, as compared to 55.6% of the males (p = 0.001). Conclusions: We found increased prevalence of adverse psychological outcomes among the health care workers in Saudi Arabia during the outbreak of COVID-19. Therefore, there is a need for proper screening and development of corresponding preventive measures to decrease the adverse psychological outcomes.

BACKGROUND The increased frequency of epidemics such as Middle East respiratory syndrome, severe acute respiratory syndrome, Ebola virus, and Zika virus has created stress on health care management and operations as well as on relevant stakeholders. In addition, the recent COVID-19 outbreak has been creating challenges for various countries and their respective health care organizations in managing and controlling the pandemic. One of the most important observations during the recent outbreak is the lack of effective eHealth frameworks for managing and controlling pandemics. OBJECTIVE The aims of this study are to review the current National eHealth Strategy of Saudi Arabia and to propose an integrated eHealth framework that can be effective for managing health care operations and services during pandemics. METHODS A questionnaire-based survey was administered to 316 health care professionals to review the current national eHealth framework of Saudi Arabia and identify the objectives, factors, and components that are key for managing and controlling pandemics. Purposive sampling was used to collect responses from diverse experts, including physicians, technical experts, nurses, administrative experts, and pharmacists. The survey was administered at five hospitals in Saudi Arabia by forwarding the survey link using a web-based portal. A sample population of 350 was achieved, which was filtered to exclude incomplete and ineligible samples, giving a sample of 316 participants. RESULTS Of the 316 participants, 187 (59.2%) found the current eHealth framework to be ineffective, and more than 50% of the total participants stated that the framework lacked some essential components and objectives. Additional components and objectives focusing on using eHealth for managing information, creating awareness, increasing accessibility and reachability, promoting self-management and self-collaboration, promoting electronic services, and extensive stakeholder engagement were considered to be the most important factors by more than 80% of the total participants. CONCLUSIONS Managing pandemics requires an effective and efficient eHealth framework that can be used to manage various health care services by integrating different eHealth components and collaborating with all stakeholders.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the greatest development and promise in the present technology world, as it promises big contribution, massive changes, modernization, and coordination with and within people’s progressing life. This paper aims to provide an analysis of Jordan health care that are co-connected and interconnected with the consequences formed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of adopting AI in health sector. It also discusses the local awareness and familiarization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Jordan healthcare providers and gives a consistent assessment of current and future best practices. Data was gathered by using interviews from Jordan IT and health care providers. The investigation found that AI is consistently changing the way healthcare is to be directed in Jordan. AI can provide solid healthcare services to the stakeholders. Background Advanced developments in diagnostic radiology have provided a rapid increase in the number of radiological investigations worldwide. Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been applied in diagnostic radiology. The purpose of developing such applications is to clinically validate and make them feasible for the current practice of diagnostic radiology, in which there is less time for diagnosis. Purpose To assess radiologists’ knowledge about AI’s role and establish a baseline to help in providing educational activities on AI in diagnostic radiology in Saudi Arabia. Material and Methods An online questionnaire was designed using QuestionPro software. The study was conducted in large hospitals located in different regions in Saudi Arabia. A total of 93 participants completed the questionnaire, of which 32 (34%) were trainee radiologists from year 1 to year 4 (R1–R4) of the residency programme, 33 (36%) were radiologists and fellows, and 28 (30%) were consultants. Results The responses to the question related to the use of AI on a daily basis illustrated that 76 (82%) of the participants were not using any AI software at all during daily interpretation of diagnostic images. Only 17 (18%) reported that they used AI software for diagnostic radiology. Conclusion There is a significant lack of knowledge about AI in our residency programme and radiology departments at hospitals. Due to the rapid development of AI and its application in diagnostic radiology, there is an urgent need to enhance awareness about its role in different diagnostic fields.

Pharmacist prescribing is being increasingly undertaken to better use their skills and reduce the workload of existing prescribers such as doctors, often using formal processes to legitimate these activities. In developing countries like Saudi Arabia, however, pharmacists’ prescribing remains informal with no legislation or formal training and there is a lack of research and understanding into such practices. Therefore, we aimed to describe current pharmacist prescribing practices in Saudi Arabia and explore pharmacists’ views about pharmacists’ prescribing. This is a cross-sectional survey study using an online questionnaire of hospital pharmacists in Saudi Arabia about pharmacists’ prescribing, and associated views about prescribing legislation and barriers to implementing pharmacist prescribing. Over a quarter (28.5%) of pharmacists reported themselves as prescribers, 49% were following a collaborative prescribing model, 18% independent prescribing, and 33% were doing both. Ninety percent of prescribers reported confidence in prescribing the appropriate treatment and 92.3% perceived they will benefit from more prescribing training. Healthcare practice culture and pharmacist’s competency were identified as barriers. There is an overall support for pharmacists’ prescribing in Saudi Arabia among this sample of hospital pharmacists, with limitations in resources and the absence of standardized prescribing training being perceived as key barriers to pharmacists’ prescribing.

The government has issued regulations to ensure the health of Umrah pilgrims however there is no standard of health care for the Umrah pilgrims, either before departing, while traveling and in Saudi Arabia or returning to Indonesia. This study analyzes the Umrah health regulations and their implementation in the perspective of the rights to health. This research is a legal research design with sociological jurisprudence because the object under study is the application of law. The results of this study have explained that the right to health of Umrah pilgrims has been guaranteed in Law no. 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah. However, there are still obstacles in the implementation which are the responsibility of the Umrah Travel Organizer, so it is necessary to make a policy by the ministry that organizes affairs in the health sector after carrying out affairs in the field of religion.

Considering spatial accessibility of health services is a critical part in the planning and management of health services. There is evidence that poor geographical locations can obstruct prompt basic health care services to some population sections. We developed a location-allocation P-median model for health centres after analysing their sites, demand location of health services and the road network in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This model attempts to optimize health care services network and to put forward location recommendations to maximise service coverage. Our model is shown to be useful as it provides a robust evidence base to urban planners and policymakers responsible for making spatial decisions for the development of the health sector. Besides, it follows the paradigm of new urbanism that encourages decentralisation of essential facilities including basic healthcare in cities, where emphasis is on offering all basic services within walkable distances of 15 min. or less.
