Background Research on problematic internet use has focused on devising diagnostic criteria or describing the factors that influence internet overuse. However, a paradigm shift is necessary in studying the phenomenon of increased internet use not just from a pathological point of view but also from a developmental point of view that considers children’s behavior of adapting to a technology-oriented society. Objective In this paper, we propose the Cyclic Value-Context Reinforcement Model (CVCRM) to understand problematic internet use behavior. The purpose of our study was to construct a developmental process model that provides a holistic understanding of problematic internet use behavior of children and to empirically validate the proposed model by conducting a thematic analysis on actual counseling data. Methods To validate the CVCRM, we conducted thematic analysis using the counseling data from 312 Korean children aged 7-18 years. For the coding process, 7 master’s and doctoral student researchers participated as coders, and 2 professors supervised the coding process and results. Results This project was funded from October 2015 to September 2019 to analyze counseling data from 312 children who participated in counseling sessions during January 2012 to May 2014. Based on the data analysis, we present the CVCRM, which integrates existing theoretical approaches and encompasses the 3 interacting aspects that induce and reinforce problematic internet use in children: psychosocial value, environmental context, and internet utility. Specifically, using counseling data, we empirically ascertained that problematic internet use behavior feeds into children’s psychosocial values and environmental contexts, which in turn facilitates problematic internet use in a cyclical manner. Conclusions Through this empirical validation, the CVCRM can provide a theoretical framework and an integrated perspective on the developmental mechanism of problematic internet use behavior of children.

Background: With emerging internet use, there is need to understand differences between ‘normal’ and ‘problematic internet use’. The objective of the study was to estimate internet use behaviour and risk profile, prevalence of problematic internet use and to determine association among them. Methods: A cross sectional study was undertaken among medical undergraduates. Pilot tested, structured questionnaire along with internet addiction test was administered. Results: Total of 122 students with mean age of 20.6 years (SD 0.878) participated in the study. Majority had personal computer and smart phones (88.5% and 98.4% respectively). Students were online at place of residence, classrooms and library (97.5%, 50% and 34.4% respectively). Students were online every day for instant messenger, social networking, leisure, without purpose, emails, downloads, forums, blogging, shopping, listening to radio and gaming (91.0%, 64.8%, 32.0%, 27.9%, 22.1%, 18.0% and 14.8%, 1.6%, 6.6%, 4.1% and 8.2% respectively). False information from internet, blocking of mails, pretending, and sharing password was found in 52.5%, 71.3%, 45.1% and 36.1% students respectively. Only 4.1% students had undertaken cyber safety courses. Moderate prevalence of ‘problematic internet use’ was 19.7%. Significantly higher internet use in classrooms, higher use of emails, social networking, blogging, forums, leisure, surfing without purpose, shopping, downloading and higher cyber risk was seen among those with ‘problematic internet use’ (p=0.001, 0.010, 0.009, 0.021, 0.026, 0.002, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000 and 0.005 respectively). Conclusions: Internet use has become an integral part of our lives. There is a need to estimate the baseline and develop evidence based strategies in the country.

Problematic Internet use (PIU) can lead to dysfunction and undesired consequences, especially in adolescents and youths. Preventive interventions can reduce them, but should be built on sound evidence. This review synthesizes the available evidence on the effectiveness of primary prevention programs for PIU in adolescents and youths. It adds to previous reviews by broadening the search to general and specific problematic behavior. Two independent reviewers performed a systematic search for published studies on PIU and internet addiction in English, French and Spanish using PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus. Published experimental and quasi-experimental studies that assessed the effectiveness of primary prevention programs targeting PIU behaviors were considered for inclusion. Full texts for eligible studies were retrieved and assessed for quality. Five studies were retained for narrative synthesis. Three of them based the intervention strategy on an underlying theory, one on media literacy, and one used an educational-based approach. A meta-analysis showed that all five interventions were effective in preventing internet addiction separately. However, when using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman (HKSJ) estimator and removing one of the studies because of a disproportionate Hedges’ g, combined effects were no longer significant. Although PIU is a popular topic, little is known about ways to prevent it. This review demonstrates that prevention programs can be based on different theoretical approaches, but that the available evidence is too heterogeneous to derive generalizable conclusions concerning their effectiveness.

Trends in tourism development of the XXI century suggest that one of the promising areas related to the acquaintance with the production, cooking technology and tasting of national dishes and drinks is gastronomic tourism. That is, gastronomic tourism fully contributes to the development of the tourism sector and is a means of activating the tourist destination. The article deals with the directions of gastronomic tourism development as a means of activating tourist destinations and supporting national producers through the integration of gastronomic tourism into local event resources. The relevance of these issues is determined by the lack of a holistic understanding of the concept of gastronomic tourism, the imperfection of existing recommendations and conclusions on its formation. The purpose of the article is to study the features of gastronomic tourism as a means of enhancing the development of tourism. This study aims to determine the relationship of loneliness with problematic internet use on boarding students on Silaberanti street in Siantan jaya Opposite Ulu 1 Palembang city. Research subjects numbered 220 people using random sampling methods. Data was collected using a 60 item problematic internet use scale and a 60 item loneliness. Realibility is generated on scale of problematic internet use of 0,955 and loneliness of 0,946.Hypothesis testing uses product moment correlation analysis techniques. Hypothesis test results showed a positive relationshif between loneliness with problematic internet use on boarding students on Silaberanti street in Siantan jaya Opposite Ulu 1 Palembang city r= 0,684 with a significance level of 0,000 (p<0,01). Loneliness in this study made an effective contribution of 46,8% to problematic internet use which can be seen from the coefficient of determination (r²) that is equel to 0,468.
