BACKGROUND Several countries have implemented mobile apps in an attempt to trace close contacts of patients with COVID-19 and, in turn, reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. However, the effectiveness of this approach depends on the adherence of a large segment of the population. OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to evaluate the acceptability of a COVID-19 contact tracing mobile app among the French population and to investigate the barriers to its use. METHODS The Health Literacy Survey 2019 questioned 1003 people in France during the COVID-19 pandemic on the basis of quota sampling. The survey collected sociodemographic characteristics and health literacy data, as well as information on participants’ communication with caregivers, trust in institutions, and COVID-19 knowledge and preventive behaviors. The acceptability of a mobile app for contact tracing was measured by a single question, the responses to which were grouped into three modalities: app-supporting, app-willing, and app-reluctant. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with the acceptability of a mobile app during the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS Only 19.2% (193/1003) of all participants were app-supporting, whereas half of them (504/1003, 50.3%) were reluctant. The factors associated with willingness or support toward the contact tracing app included lower financial deprivation (app-willing: adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.8, 95% CI 0.69-0.93; app-supporting: aOR 0.7, 95% CI 0.58-0.84) and higher perceived usefulness of using a mobile app to send completed health questionnaires to doctors (app-willing: aOR 2.3, 95% CI 1.70-3.26; app-supporting: aOR 3.1, 95% CI 2.04-4.82). Furthermore, the likelihood of supporting the mobile app increased with age over 60 years (aOR 1.9, 95% CI 1.13-3.22), trust in political representatives (aOR 2.7, 95% CI 1.72-4.23), feeling concerned about the pandemic situation (aOR 2.2, 95% CI 1.47-3.32), and knowledge about the transmission of COVID-19 (aOR 2.0, 95% CI 1.39-2.96). CONCLUSIONS The most socioeconomically precarious people, who are at a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection, are also the most reluctant to using a contact tracing mobile app. Therefore, optimal adherence can only be effective with a targeted discourse on public health benefits to adopt such an app, which should be combined with a reduction in inequalities by acting on structural determinants.

The advent of smartphones revolutionized and took the market to a new level. Now a days, majority of internet users spend their maximum time on smartphones, specifically on mobile apps. The emergence of numerous apps in smartphones with games features has brought about a different trend, mobile app gamification. The emerging popularity of smartphone technologies and their mobile apps have led various companies to engage their consumers with mobile apps, specifically through gamification. Therefore, companies gain consumers attention integrate their mobile marketing into their overall marketing strategy. This study explores the domain of consumer engagement and their intentions through the gamification of mobile apps. The research focuses on how mobile app gamification drives consumer engagement and their intentions drawing upon SDT and TAM. Using survey method data collected from 270 respondents, data analysis was done with structure equation modeling (SEM). The findings assert that various features of gamification of mobile apps (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and enjoyment) have a significant influence on consumer engagement. However, convenience was unexpectedly found not to be significantly associated with consumer engagement. Additionally, consumer engagement was found to be associated to smartphone user's intentions to use gamification of mobile apps. The results of present study have theoretical and practical implications.

Objectives: The objectives of our study were (1) to determine risk factors associated with tuberculosis (TB)–specific and non–TB-specific mortality among patients with TB and (2) to examine whether risk factors for TB-specific mortality differed from those for non–TB-specific mortality. Methods: We obtained data from the National Tuberculosis Surveillance System and included all patients who had TB between 2009 and 2013 in the United States and its territories. We used multinomial logistic regression analysis to determine the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of each risk factor for TB-specific and non–TB-specific mortality. Results: Of 52 175 eligible patients with TB, 1404 died from TB, and 2413 died from other causes. Some of the risk factors associated with the highest odds of TB-specific mortality were multidrug-resistant TB diagnosis (aOR = 3.42; 95% CI, 1.95-5.99), end-stage renal disease (aOR = 3.02; 95% CI, 2.23-4.08), human immunodeficiency virus infection (aOR = 2.63; 95% CI, 2.02-3.42), age 45-64 years (aOR = 2.57; 95% CI, 2.01-3.30) or age ≥65 years (aOR = 5.76; 95% CI, 4.37-7.61), and immunosuppression (aOR = 2.20; 95% CI, 1.71-2.83). All of these risk factors except multidrug-resistant TB were also associated with increased odds of non–TB-specific mortality. Conclusion: TB patients with certain risk factors have an elevated risk of TB-specific mortality and should be monitored before, during, and after treatment. Identifying the predictors of TB-specific mortality may help public health authorities determine which subpopulations to target and where to allocate resources.

Abstract Background Health literacy has direct relevance to outcomes in patients with cancer. An adequate level of health literacy may increase uptake of screening and other supportive cancer prevention programs, which may contribute to improved outcomes. However, existing literature is limited in measuring cancer-specific health literacy and its role in cancer prevention. This study aims to investigate the relationship between cancer-related health literacy and cancer preventive behaviours through a population survey in Beijing, China. Methods A cross-sectional design was utilised to collect survey data such as respondents’ sociodemographic characteristics, cancer-related health literacy, cancer status and cancer prevention behaviours. Logistic regression modelling was applied to identify significant sociodemographic predictors for cancer literacy. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was further performed to determine the association between cancer-related health literacy and cancer preventive behaviours after adjusting for effects from sociodemographic variables. Results The findings confirmed that cancer-related health literacy was significant in predicting participants’ cancer preventive behaviours, including individual’s cancer information seeking behaviour, intention to participate in cancer screenings, early diagnosis and treatments. In addition, the results also showed that respondents’ gender, age, education, household income, residential region and cancer status were significantly associated with their levels of cancer-related health literacy. Conclusions/Key messages The results of this study have provided useful evidence on the importance of applying cancer-related health literacy to predict individual’s cancer preventive behaviours. The study has also identified the variations in cancer literacy between different sub-population groups. Future studies can develop targeted health promotion and education campaigns for more effective cancer prevention.

This paper examines consumers’ behaviours towards mobile advertising alerts offered by branded mobile apps in the fashion industry. While consumer-driven factors have attracted much attention, little research has examined the impact of data-driven mobile advertising alerts on consumer continuance intention for branded mobile apps. This paper analyses the combined influence of consumer beliefs, data-driven mobile advertising alerts, and perceived value on mobile advertising acceptance, intention to repurchase, and recommendation behaviour towards branded mobile apps on social media. In total, 340 valid responses from Spanish customers of an online fashion outlet, all social media users, who make their purchases from the company exclusively through its branded mobile application, were analysed to test the hypotheses, using structural equation modelling. The results showed that mobile advertising acceptance, intention to repurchase, and recommendation behaviour are driven by the perceived value of the branded mobile app. Perceived value is determined by the usefulness of the branded mobile app, attitudes towards mobile advertising alerts, and irritation. Mobile advertising content (informativeness and credibility) improves attitudes towards mobile advertising alerts. Ease of use increases perceived usefulness, while perceived control decreases irritation. Managerial implications are provided.

Maternal mortality and its associated complications can be avoided by ensuring safe and supervised delivery. In this paper, the authors examined the factors associated with the utilisation of institutional delivery care at the Urban Primary Health Care Project (UPHCP) clinic in Bangladesh. A two-stage cluster sampling was used in selecting the ever-married women aged 15-49 years in the catchment areas of the UPHCP in Bangladesh. A total of 3,949 women’s data were analysed. The authors collected data through face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire. A multinomial logistic regression analysis was done to determine the potential factors associated with the utilisation of delivery care, in which ‘place of delivery care’ was considered as a dependent variable. Data entry and analysis were done in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 22.0. This study found that 30% of the women delivered their most recent child at the UPHCP clinic, and 45.9% of the women delivered their most recent child at other institutions. However, one-fifth of the women delivered at home. Doctors attended two-thirds of the deliveries. A small proportion of women were tended to by nurses, paramedics, FWV, and FWA. Traditional birth attendants attended one-fifth (20%) of deliveries. The multinomial logistic regression analysis found that respondents from poor catchment areas were 33.677 times more likely to utilise delivery care at the UPHCP when compared to 12.052 times by the respondents who took previous antenatal care from the non-poor catchment area. This study also found that women who had entitlement cards were 6.840 times more likely to utilise delivery care at the UPHCP in the poor catchment area, which was almost twice the women from the non-poor catchment area. Although the maternal mortality rate in Bangladesh has notably reduced,Bangladesh still needs to address the issue of safe delivery for marginalised women in order to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. A red card approach might increase access to the UPHCP for marginalised women to have safe deliveries.Keywords: poor, urban, red card, delivery care, Urban Primary Health Care Project, Bangladesh

In particular, contact tracing mobile apps provide a means for governments to manage both health and economic concerns. However, public reception of these apps is paramount to their success, and global uptake rates have been low. Objective In this study, we sought to identify the characteristics of individuals or factors potentially associated with voluntary downloads of a contact tracing mobile app in Singapore. Methods A cohort of 505 adults from the general community completed an online survey. As the primary outcome measure, participants were asked to indicate whether they had downloaded the contact tracing app TraceTogether introduced at the national level. The following were assessed as predictor variables: (1) participant demographics, (2) behavioral modifications on account of the pandemic, and (3) pandemic severity (the number of cases and lockdown status). Results Within our data set, the strongest predictor of the uptake of TraceTogether was the extent to which individuals had already adjusted their lifestyles because of the pandemic (z=13.56; P<.001). Network analyses revealed that uptake was most related to the following: using hand sanitizers, avoiding public transport, and preferring outdoor over indoor venues during the pandemic. However, demographic and situational characteristics were not significantly associated with app downloads. Conclusions Efforts to introduce contact tracing apps could capitalize on pandemic-related behavioral adjustments among individuals. Given that a large number of individuals is required to download contact tracing apps for contact tracing to be effective, further studies are required to understand how citizens respond to contact tracing apps. The aim of this cross-sectional study is to address whether health literacy (HL) and vaccine confidence are related with influenza vaccination uptake among staff of nursing homes (NHs). It was conducted in Tuscany (Italy) in autumn 2018, including the staff of 28 NHs. A questionnaire was used to collect individual data regarding influenza vaccination in 2016–2017 and 2017–2018 seasons; the intention to be vaccinated in 2018–2019; as well as demographic, educational, and health information. It included also the Italian Medical Term Recognition (IMETER) test to measure HL and eight Likert-type statements to calculate a Vaccine Confidence Index (VCI). The number of employees that fulfilled the questionnaire was 710. The percentage of influenza vaccination uptake was low: only 9.6% got vaccinated in 2016–2017 and 2017–2018 and intended to vaccinate in 2018–2019. The VCI score and the IMETER-adjusted scores were weakly correlated (Rho = 0.156). At the multinomial logistic regression analysis, the VCI was a positive predictor of vaccination uptake. In conclusion, vaccine confidence is the strongest predictor of influenza vaccination uptake among the staff of NHs. The development of an adequate vaccine literacy measurement tool could be useful to understand whether skills could be related to vaccine confidence.
