Abstrak[A Study of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program Effectiveness: A Case Study in Energy Company “Y”]  Energy companies are known for their massive impacts on the social and environmental condition. Hence, they must conduct mitigation actions for reducing the negative impacts through CSR programs. A continuous evaluation of CSR programs effectiveness is crucial to understand whether they can bring significant social-environmental returns or not. One of the most popular methods of impact evaluation utilized by non-profit organizations is Social Return on Investment (SROI). However, only a few empirical research provides evidence for the implementation of this method in the context of CSR program evaluation. Therefore, this research aims to address this hiatus by giving empirical evidence on SROI implementation and incremental modification for CSR evaluation. Furthermore, this research also provides practical contributions by depicting how an energy company can measure its CSR program utilizing SROI. The measurement result can be used as guidance for optimizing the company’s CSR program. In our case study of Power Generator Company “Y”, the SROI calculation shows that the CSR program is “effective” with a total return Rp 2.69 for each rupiah invested. However, Company “Y” tend to conduct more activities for social return, rather than activities for environmental return. Keywords: Corporate Social Responsibility; Environmental Impact; Effectiveness; Social Impact; SROI

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities carried out by companies should ideally be a social investment for them. The activities should not necessarily be aimed to meet their responsibilities since it would only bring a short-term good reputation and even potentially be a threat for them in the future. Indeed, as a social investment, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that are run for a long time will provide them with a business ‘change’ or ‘return’ in the form of profit for the company. The method used to measure the social impact of the CSR activities was Social Return on Investment (SROI) which not only could calculate the value of profits in the form of money, but included a broader concept covering social, economic and environmental values. The results of this study reveal that Sentra Industri Bukit Asam (SIBA) Batik Kujur Program that was initiated based on culture (history) has produced economic and business values for service users in the society. This resulted in a social investment impact value in the form of SROI Ratio of 5.39, which means that for every investment made by PTBA with Rp. 1,- they will get impact or benefit worth Rp. 5.39,-. Therefore, it can be seen from the social and economic values that the Sentra Industri Bukit Asam (SIBA) Batik Kujur Program is feasible and successful.

The issue of environmental protection in the twenty-first century has played a relatively critical role in business management. Companies developing green intellectual capital can increase their competitive advantage and may influence employees’ attitudes and behavior regarding environmental protection. This research explored the mediating effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the relationship between green intellectual capital and employees’ proenvironmental behavior. Data was obtained from surveys collected from 461 employees in the high-tech industries in Taiwan. The results revealed that green human capital and green relational capital were positively related to the perception of CSR. Moreover, the perception of CSR mediated the associations between green human capital, green relational capital and employees’ pro-environmental behavior. Implications of the findings, including limitations and future research directions are discussed.

The progress of increasingly sophisticated science and technology has led to a lot of development that refers to industrialization, especially in the private sector. Development carried out in Indonesia, is still gender-biased and lacks consideration for the role of women. The amount of development including companies has an impact on the environment and society, so the government has obliged every company to carry out activities called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The CSR program is one of the community empowerment programs and can also be applied as a women's empowerment program. The purpose of this research is to see the relationship between the success rate of CSR programs and the level of empowerment of rural women. This study uses a combination of quantitative approaches and qualitative approaches. The quantitative approach is done by the census method using questionnaire instruments while the qualitative approach uses the case study method and is obtained through in-depth interview guides. The results showed that there was no relationship between the success rate of the CSR program and the level of empowerment of rural women in Sumbermulyo Village. This is because the success of CSR programs and the empowerment of CSR programs is more to the social and not economic aspects.
