The metaphor is born because of the limitations of human language, while the human mind is unlimited. This research data is a metaphor in the Para Priyayi novel. This study uses a qualitative research design or research context. Metaphors are covered depends context of existing metaphors in the Para Priyayi novel. Metaphoric consists of nine patterns, namely (1) one sentence, one metaphor, (2) one sentence, two metaphors, (3) one sentence, three metaphors, (4) tenor at the front, the vehicle in the behind, (5) vehicle at the front, tenor in the behind, (6) noun - verb, (7) verb - noun, (8) noun - adjective, and (9) the frozen form. As there are four kinds of metaphor, namely (1) a metaphor of man, (2) a metaphor of animal, (3) a metaphor of plant, and (4) a metaphor of natural circumstances. The sphere of life that exists in the Para Priyayi novel metaphor includes five programs: (1) economics, (2) the family, (3) community, (4) the natural environment, and (5) of religion and belief. The values of local wisdom includes nine things, namely (1) character, (2) ethics, (3) chivalry, (4) the concept of Manunggaling Kawula kalawan Gusti, (5) education, (6) the attitude of the community, (7) moral education, (8) self-control, and (9) leadership. The research proves that metaphor in the Para Priyayi novel has certain forms and types, contains the realm of Javanese life, and the values of Java local wisdom.

This article looks at the working expectations and motivations of Generation Y members working in their parents’ businesses. The goal of this article is to identify how the working expectations and motivations of Generation Y members working in their parents’ businesses differ from the working expectations and motivations of Generation Y overall. Qualitative research design and in-depth unstructured interviews with 31 respondents were used to obtain the opinions of Generation Y members working in their parents’ businesses. Three main dimensions of working motivation were surveyed: the reasons for entering a family business, what work in a family business means, and general motivation to work. The principal findings of the article are the importance of work-life balance, flexibility, the opportunity for career development and the drive to continue one’s family tradition for Generation Y members working in their parents’ businesses. A sample of respondents added that they expect to be more involved in the operation of the family business in the future. A sample of our respondents also expected to be more involved in the operation of the family business in the future.

This study deals with Javanese language shift in Balee Village, North Aceh. It aims to find out the factors of Javanese language shift into Acehnese language in Balee Village, North Aceh, the pattern of Javanese language shift and the reasons of Javanese language shift in Balee Village, North Aceh. The data were obtained from the family of Javanese living in Balee Village, North Aceh. The study employs qualitative research design with a single case study to get the understanding on this study. The subjects of this study were 10 families. The subjects were divided into two groups, namely parents and children. The findings showed that the shift of Javanese into Acehnese Language in Balee village, North Aceh was influenced by bilingualism, migration, economy, society, demography, institution, and attitudes. The Javanese language shift to Acehnese language occurred in the pattern of relationship between parents and children and among children. The shifts of Javanese to the Acehnese are mostly caused by social conflict. Keywords: language shift, Javanese, social conflict

Purpose This paper aims to look at the multiple embeddedness of male self-employment by focusing on entrepreneurship of men supported by female breadwinners. Design/methodology/approach Following a qualitative research design, the paper presents three case studies drawn from a research project, where 40 narrative interviews were conducted with female and male business starters. Findings The concept of embeddedness that was developed for female business founders can also be applied and specified for business startups of men. Creating and conducting a business or becoming self-employed is for men closely related to and interwoven with gender norms, household and partnership dynamics. Men who are not the family breadwinners benefit from the male connotations of entrepreneurship. Male self-employment, even if of precarious or low pecuniary relevance, allows them to fulfill the norms of masculinity and employment. Research limitations/implications Given that this is a qualitative study only based on three case studies, more research is needed to estimate the frequency of this type of male self-employment. Originality/value The importance of the context for the decision on starting-up and conducting a business is shown for male entrepreneurs. The study demonstrates how on the household level the male entrepreneurship norm is transformed into everyday lives and fits into gender arrangements. In emphasizing the non-economic dimensions of entrepreneurship, the paper opens the discussion about the interconnections between gender and entrepreneurship for men as well.

Tujuan artikel ini untuk memahami desain metode penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka (library research), pengumpulan data dengan cara mencari sumber dan merkontruksi dari berbagai sumber seperti buku, jurnal, dan riset-riset yang sudah ada. Hasilnya bahwa penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dengan desain penelitian yang temuan-temuannya tidak didapatkan melalui prosedur statistik atau dalam bentuk hitungan, melainkan bertujuan mengungkapkan fenomena secara holistik-kontekstual dengan pengumpulan data dari latar/setting alamiah dan memanfaatkanpeneliti sebagai instrument kunci. Penelitian kualiatif memiliki sifat deskriptif dan cenderung menggunakan analisis pendekatan induktif, sehingga proses dan makna berdasarkan perspektif subyek lebih ditonjolkan dalam penelitian kualitatif ini. Desain penelitian kualitatif ini dapat dijadikan sebagai metode dalam penelitian, karena desainnya dijabarkan secara komprehensif yang mudah untuk dipahami oleh kalangan peneliti dan akademisi. The purpose of this article is to understand the design of qualitative research methods. The method used is library research, data collection by searching for sources, and reconstruction from various sources such as books, journals, and existing researches. The result is that qualitative research is conducted with a research design where the findings are not obtained through statistical procedures or in the form of calculations, but rather aim to reveal phenomena in a holistic-contextual manner by collecting data from natural settings and utilizing the researcher as a key instrument. Qualitative research has a descriptive nature and tends to use an inductive approach analysis so that the process and meaning based on the subject's perspective are emphasized more in this qualitative research. This qualitative research design can be used as a method in research because the design is described in a comprehensive manner that is easy to understand by researchers and academics.

Purpose: This study examines Carol Ann Duffy’s unique discourse of rewriting and telling old stories, fairy tales, and myths that represent female characters as marginalized, inactive, and weak. Methodology: A qualitative research design was adopted to investigate the pervasive shifts of restructuring female convictions, configurations, and identity in selected poems from Duffy’s The World’s Wife. The research data in this paper is drawn from two main sources: literary books and articles. Main Findings: The analysis unravels Duffy’s feminist attitude in her poetic collection to reveal how she used her poems as weapons to fight against female marginalization. Simultaneously, the study critiques the traditional patterns of feminist thinking with origins in history and myths that are still prevalent in Western culture. Applications: This paper can be used by literary scholars and students. Novelty/Originality: In this research, female characters were explored in the light of Simon de Beauvoir’s concept of the other from her book The Second Sex and Hélène Caxias’s critical notions postulated as écriture feminine.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to ascertain the control role of independent non-executive directors (INEDs) in Malaysian public listed companies (PLCs), as prescribed in the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG).The MCCG (2000) requires substantive involvement of INEDs on the audit, nomination and remuneration board sub-committees. The study also examines the effectiveness of INEDs in discharging their monitoring roles in these sub-committees. Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative research design consisting of a series of interviews with board members of Malaysian-owned PLCs on the board of Bursa Malaysia was used. Findings – Interviews with 27 company directors reveal that, due to their independence, INEDs are crucial in safeguarding the interests of smaller investors if situations arise in which shareholders’ interests may be threatened. The interviews also disclose that the audit committee possesses the most authority among the sub-committees, as it derives its power not only from the Listing Requirements but also from statute, as well as being involved in areas of the company not traditionally associated with the committee. The study also reveals the differences in opinion between executive directors and INEDs with regard to the extent of INEDs’ effectiveness. Research limitations/implications – This research utilises interviews. Generalisation may be an issue when interviews are used as the method of inquiry. In addition, the sample is not random, as access to many directors is dependent on recommendations. In addition, the respondents have been consciously selected to cover various board positions, including independent and non-independent directors. Practical implications – The findings from this research suggest that INEDs are able to discharge their responsibilities in overseeing the conduct of executives and protecting the interests of investors. In addition, the interviews disclose that the effectiveness of INEDs depends on how non-executive directors view INEDs being on the board. Rather than focusing solely on their control role, INEDS are expected to have a more proactive and progressive role in ensuring sustainable growth and the expansion of the business entity. Originality/value – There are limited studies using qualitative research design in investigating the effectiveness of INEDs in the control role of the board in developing countries. Prior studies were predominantly based upon the experience of Western economies.


Organizations have recognized the need to have a workforce that can give the company direction and help it adapt to continuous market changes. Many organizations have taken note of this ever-changing competitive market and implemented the Graduate Development Program (GDP) to ensure the development and consistent supply of its talent pool. Adopting a qualitative research design with research instruments that allow interaction with all key stakeholders, the objective of this paper is to assess GDP as an interventional strategy for talent management, in the context of Namibia. The study findings are mixed as it shows that current and past employees feel that the GDP implementation is not effective due to their negative perceptions about the identification of outside talent and yet the findings did reveal that the GDP has resulted in improved talent sets and an enabling environment to recruit, develop and retain staff in critical positions.

They are not the only kind of comparison, though, that can help us better understand political processes and outcomes. Yet there are few guides for how to conduct non-controlled comparative research. Speech acts as an important element during communication, because it explains the thoughts of the speaker(s). A speech act is more about what is performed when uttering words and not about individual words or sentences that are known to form the basic elements of human communication. An attempt to do something through speaking is what is known as a speech act and a lot of things can be done through speaking. A speech act is studied under speech act theory and is found in the domain of pragmatics. Using a qualitative research design, the key objective of this study is to analyze the types of speech acts adopted in the inaugural address of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo as the President of the Republic of Ghana for his second term on the 7th January 2021. This study analyzed the Inaugural Address using Searle’s theory of speech act as a theoretical framework with emphasis on Searle’s five categories of speech act. The study showed that out of a total of 74 locutionary / Statements in the inaugural address,assertive acts are 40.5% of the utterances, commissive acts are 25.6%, while directive, expressive and declarative have small portions, of 13.5%, 12.2%, and 8.2% respectively.
