Chronic Kidney Disease is a process where the kidney gradually become out of function in more than three months. World Health Organization (WHO) states that the growth of chronic kidney disease sufferers globally in 2013 increased up to 50% from the previous year, in 2014, chronic kidney disease sufferers in United States of America increased up to 50% and every year that are approximately 200.000 people in United States of America undergoing hemodialysis. The objective of this study is to identify factors affecting the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients that undergo hemodialysis therapy in Royal Prima Medan Hospital in 2019. This study uses descriptive analytic study with Cross Sectional approach. The population in this study are 70 people, and 70 people as samples with total sampling technique. The result of this study shows that there is no connection between age and the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients that undergo hemodialysis therapy (p value = 0,910 > 0,05), no connection between gender and quality of life (p value = 0,599 > 0,05), no connection between education background and quality of life (p value = 0,943 > 0,05), and there is a connection between the duration of hemodialysis with quality of life (p value = 0,001 < 0,05). The patients are expected to obey the hemodialysis therapy in order to achieve a good quality of life.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to investigate the association between workaholism and quality of life in stricto sensu graduate professors in Nursing. Methods: a cross-sectional study developed with a total of 333 professors working in the Graduate Programs of Brazilian public universities. Data collection took place in the second semester of 2018, using an electronic form containing a characterization questionnaire, the Dutch Work Addiction Scale and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-BREF. The data were analyzed by univariate and multiple logistic regression. Results: it was observed that 82.3% of the professors reported low general quality of life and 19.5%, high level of excessive work and 20.1% of compulsive work. Professors who worked compulsively and excessively were less likely to have a high quality of life in the overall, physical, psychological, social relations and environment domains (p<0.05). Conclusions: the high work demands that are characteristic of the stricto sensu professors’ work process are directly associated with low quality of life.

Background Menopause is one of the natural phenomena in every woman’s life. The transition phase gradually brings lots of changes in the life of women, both physically and mentally. In Nepal, these changes are often viewed as the symptoms of old age. This study aims to determine the prevalence of menopausal symptoms and their quality of life (QOL). Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a rural municipality of Jhapa district, Nepal, with study samples of 215 collected using purposive sampling technique. Semistructured questionnaire and MENQOL questionnaire were used for data collection. Descriptive (mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage) and inferential statistics (t-test and ANOVA test) were used for data analysis. The confidence interval was taken as 95% and probability of significance at p < 0.05. Results The study showed that the mean age of the respondents was 53.51 ± 4.42 years with the mean age at menopause being 47.18 ± 6.16 years. The most prevalent symptoms among postmenopausal women were feeling tired or worn out (98.8%), followed by decrease in stamina (94%), decrease in physical strength (91.2%) and lack of energy (90%). The highest mean score was seen in physical domain (2.88 ± 1.61) followed by sexual (2.77 ± 1.93), vasomotor (2.65 ± 1.84) and psychosocial (2.45 ± 1.55). The overall mean score of QOL was found to be 80.06 ± 24.52. Marital status, number of children, educational status, occupational status and health seeking behaviour had significant association with the QOL score. Conclusion The most common symptoms experienced by the postmenopausal women were the physical symptoms followed by sexual, vasomotor and psychosocial. Presence of these symptoms certainly affects the QOL. Hence, effective awareness and education programme regarding the symptoms and ways to minimize those symptoms should be planned and provided both at individual and community levels.

The Glittre ADL-test (TGlittre) has been designed and validated to measure functional capacity during daily living activities in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but is now used in several other situations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of TGlittre in a sample of overweight and obese eutrophic elderly. This was an experimental and cross-sectional study, which included 21 elderly women, allocated by BMI, in eutrophic (n = 8), overweight (n = 6) and obese (n = 7) groups. They were assessed for functional capacity (TGlittre and 6MWT), quality of life (QOL) with the questionnaire World Health Organization Quality of Life for Older People (WHOQOL-OLD) and handgrip strength (HGS). TGlittre correlated with age (p = 0.0040) and with 6MWT (p = 0.0086), but no statistical difference was found in TGlittre's performance time and the distance covered in 6MWT between groups. TGlittre did not correlate with HGS (p = 0.1493) and WHOQOL-Old (p = 0.0905). The data obtained in the present study corroborate that TGlittre is used as a functional measurement variable in the elderly population. Keywords: aged, obesity, exercise intolerance.
