Objective: This study aimed to analyze the presence of lesions in the skull and face and the associated factors in pedestrian victims of traffic accidents. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study carried out through the analysis of medical records of pedestrian victims of traffic accidents in an emergency service in the city of Campina Grande, Brazil, during the year of 2016. Information was collected regarding gender, age group, day of the week, time of the accident, type of vehicle involved, presence of trauma to the skull and face, and outcomes. The Chi-square and Fisher's Exact tests were used, with a significance level of 5%. Results: A total of 1,884 medical records were evaluated, out of which 7.1% (n = 133) involved pedestrians. Men were the most frequent victims (68.4%), and victims of age 60 years old or over (30.5%) predominated. Almost one-third of the cases were recorded during the weekends (30.5%), and the most prevalent time was at night (52.7%). Regarding the type of vehicle involved, motorcycles predominated (47.4%). Head trauma was present in 37.6% of victims, while facial injuries corresponded to 8.2%. In 12% of cases, the victims died. The variables of gender, age group, occurrence on weekends, and trauma to the face showed a statistically significant association with the occurrence of traffic accidents (Chi-square test; p<0.05). Conclusion: Among pedestrian victims of traffic accidents, there is a predominance of men aged 65 years or over. Accidents are frequent at night, and motorcycles are the main vehicles involved. The presence of trauma to the skull and face regions is high.

Advisers are expected to be cautious. Typical instructions in research on risky shift induce the adviser role. However, subjects may take the role of the story's hero when they can identify with the hero. It is acceptable for people to be daring when acting for themselves. This hypothesis of a switch of set predicts that subjects should consider themselves more risky than the majority of their peers, a way of expressing the value of risk, when they are similar to the story's hero. High school students rated themselves and the majority on stories dealing with situations common to their age group and on stories dealing with adult problems. Sex of hero was also manipulated. Results supported the hypothesis of a switch of set. Subjects displaced themselves more when the situation was similar to those they might face; in addition, subjects displaced themselves more when the story's hero was of their sex. No sex differences in general tendency to risky displacement were found.

Objective: Determine the relationship between clinical symptoms of colic pain and haematuria as a predictor of ureteral stones incident at Dr Soetomo Hospital within a period of five years. Material & methods: This study is a descriptive analytic study using the sensitivity-specificity test with retrospective design. Data were collected from patient's medical records with a ureteral stone diagnosis at outpatient unit Dr Soetomo Hospital within 2011-2015. Results: Renal colic or ureter colic without haematuria had 88.32% specificity and 53.07% sensitivity in the incidence of ureteral stones at Urology Outpatient Unit Dr Soetomo Hospital within 2011-2015 period. Haematuria without colic complaint had 29.37% sensitivity and 90.17% specificity in the incidence of ureteral stones. Colic and haematuria compared with colic had 55.76% sensitivity for the incidence of ureteral stones and 70.09% specificity. While colic and haematuria compared with haematuria had a sensitivity of 77.41% for the incidence of ureteral stones and 65.92% specificity. Colic and haematuria compared to other complaints has a 58.77% sensitivity for ureteral stones incidence and 94.66% specificity. Conclusion: Colic and haematuria are clinical predictors that have a better value than the complaints of colic without haematuria and haematuria without colic, in the ureteral stones incident at Urology Outpatient Unit Dr Soetomo Hospital within 2011-2015 period. This is consistent with the literature that mentions prominent complaint in the incidence of ureteral stones is their colic pain caused by the stone through the ureteral passage, and followed by haematuria for their mucosal surface injury.

Introduction/Objective. The classic type of celiac disease (CD) is most common in children under two years of age. The aim of this study was to investigate whether breastfeeding, particularly breastfeeding during gluten introduction, and timing of gluten introduction, influence the onset of CD at this age. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed medical records of 93 children, 40 in the first and 53 in the second year, with a classic CD diagnosed at the University Children?s Hospital, Belgrade between 2000 and 2010. The diagnosis of CD was based on the criteria of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) from 1989. Results. Duration of breastfeeding reduced the onset of the CD in the first year p = 0.039 (OR = 1.43 95% CI 1.019?1.899). Also, breastfeeding at the time of gluten introduction significantly delayed the age at diagnosis (F = 1.671, t = 2.39, p = 0.029). The timing of gluten introduction did not affect the age of occurrence of CD in these group of children. Conclusion. Longer breastfeeding, and breastfeeding at the time of gluten introduction, postponed the onset of classic CD in patients up to two years. The association between the occurrence of CD and the time of introduction of gluten in this age group of patients has not been established.

<p>One of the most frequently prescribed drugs in geriatric patients is a benzodiazepine, especially a short-acting such as alprazolam. Unfortunately, alprazolam is oftenly used inappropriately because this drug has a short acting effect. Geriatric patients are more sensitive to this drug that can lead to the dependence. However, there is still lack of data on the use of this drug in geriatric patients. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the use of alprazolam. A drug utilization study has been done for 2 months through analysis of patient’s medical records in the internal medicine ward at RSMH Palembang from June 1st, 2012 to May 31st, 2013. There were 25 out of 1634 patients receiving alprazolam, but only 23 patients whose data were obtained from the available medical records. Prevalence of alprazolam use was 1.408%. Based on gender, the prevalence was 1.798% in female and 1.09% in male patients. Proportion by age group was 91.3%, 8.7% and 0% in age group 60-74 years, 75-90 years and over 90 years, respectively. Based on the job, the population study comprised of the housewive (52.1%), unemployment (39.1%), and entrepreneur and farmer (4.3% together). The indication of usage was atheroscerotic heart disease, diarrhoea and gastroenteritis of presumed infectious origin, unspecified gastritis, and thyrotoxic heart disease. In other words, it could be said that the usage of alprazolam was inappropriate.</p>
