Discrepancies between real-self and ideal-self performances on a personality inventory, the Pensacola Z-Survey, were compared in two groups of high school seniors who were born and raised in one community (either Dayton, Ohio or The Plains, Ohio) and a group who had moved from an Appalachian environment to Dayton. The shifted subjects were different from the unshifted ones only in idealizing greater dependency, rather than the expected opposite. Earlier interpretation of reduced real-ideal discrepancy with social change was not supported but the real-ideal discrepancy does provide a sensitive index of psychological effects of social cultural change.

Ratings of the self and of the ideal self were obtained from 215 institutionalized child molesters and 143 child molesters who were living in the community. The discrepancy between the two ratings of the self is seen to be related to the descriptive terms used to depict the self Words that are clearly evaluative in nature did not lead to discrepancies in the two ratings. Words that were descriptive but nonevaluative gave rise to large differences between ratings of the ideal self and the real self. There were few apparent differences between the child molesters in the community and those in the institution.

A preoccupation with a search for the authentic self has become widespread for individuals living in contemporary Western societies since the 1970s. Because academic consensus had been reached regarding the university student population anchoring their experiences of authenticity in a personal ( impulsive or subconsensual) sense of identity in the last 35 years, the sociological-empirical study of the real self among students has been abandoned as a discipline for about the last 20 years. This article shows that this should not be the case any longer. I found that students’ meanings of authenticity are predominantly constructed within their social ( institutional or consensual) roles. I present data from a survey conducted with 138 respondents from a university in Victoria, Australia, in 2013, and compare it with sociologist Ralph Turner's ground-breaking research on the same topic. I explain these findings through generational and cultural change reasons related to millennials’ Web 2.0 technology use.

This study describes how Dilan 1990 shapes the self concept of teenagers in Yogyakarta. Data from FGD with ten high school students in Yogyakarta shows that teenagers try to compare the story from the movie to their life. Dilan’s life is becoming an ideal self as a teenager. It is concluded that movie is not only entertaining but also conveys persuasive messages to shape the standard and value to its audiences. The teenagers believe both their real-self and ought-self should be able to change, based on the criteria created by the characters in Dilan 1990.

The ability to effectively build interpersonal relations, properly assess yourself in the course of communication is the basic skill of future psychologists, which plays a significant role for success of their professional activity. The novelty of this work consists in the analysis of semantic characteristics and coherence of the images of real-Self and ideal-Self in the context of studying interpersonal relations of future psychologists. For achieving the set goal, the author employs T. Leary’s methodology “The Diagnostics of Interpersonal Relations” (adapted by L. N. Sobchik). The conclusions consist in determination of the two opposite trends in interpersonal relations of future psychologists: dominance and cooperation (the first trend prevails in real-Self). The author also established that most octants have the optimal level of coherence between the images of real-Self and ideal-Self, which promotes the effective professional and personal development of future specialists. The acquires results can be used for improving the quality of professional education of future psychologists, as well as in counseling and coaching activities on the development of skills for building interpersonal relations and images of the real-Self and ideal-Self.

In this paper I explore the connection between a/r/tography and poetic inquiry, and how together they cultivate multiple ways of understanding. I further claim that classroom situations are most provocative of thoughtfulness and critical consciousness when each student participates in the classroom conversation from his or her lived situations. While difficult, teachers who can facilitate rich interchanges of dialogue within a plurality of voices are genuinely creating communities of difference and thus imagining real possibilities for social change.

This paper presents the results of analyzing the psychological patterns of the development of ethnic identity and interethnic relations in the multinational Levant Region, where interethnic confrontation between Palestinians and Israelis has been noted in recent years. The main aim of the research is to reveal the relationship between the characteristics of Ethnic Identity and the Experience (“perezhivanie”) of Interethnic Relations of Palestinian Muslims in the multicultural Levant Region. In the process of investigating into ethnic self-awareness the authors used the Leary Test, the Semantic Diff erential of “Perezhivanie” ‘Experiencing’ Questionnaire by L.R. Fakhrutdinova aimed at studying the psychosemantic characteristics of the “perezhivanie” ‘experiencing’. The research has displayed that Ethnic Identity is a self-developing phenomenon, basically infl uenced by both the infrastructural relations and positions of ethnic self-awareness, and the processes associated with the relations of ethnic self-awareness with the external environment, with other ethnic groups. The most active points of development have been identifi ed. So, in intrastructural relations, they are active as ratios of I-real and I-mirror with a stronger position of I-ideal, since practically all dimensions of I-real and I-ideal (dominance, egoism, suspicion, etc.) have shown signifi cant diff erences that testify to the points and directions of development of ethnic self-awareness; positions in the relationship between the real self and the mirror self also exerted an active infl uence. The points of confl ict of the structures of ethnic self-consciousness were found, where, when the points of development coincided, the direction of development was diff erent. Thus, suspicion, obedience, dependence, friendliness, integrative indicators of dominance and friendliness have shown themselves to be confl ict points refl ecting confl ict zones between the infl uence of an external ethnic group (mirror self) and self-development processes manifested through the ideal self. In the situation of relations with the external environment, the most active was shown by the self-mirror, which infl uences the development of the subjectivity of the ethnic group through the components of the experience of the Palestinian-Israeli crisis. The infl uence of the real self on the characteristics of the “perezhivanie” ‘experiencing’ of the PalestinianIsraeli crisis was also manifested, and therefore, through the components of the “perezhivanie” ‘experiencing’ of this impression on the development of the self-awareness of the ethnic group.

The article presents the studies of the influence of self-realization on her attitude to different sides of reality (to her husband, to her child, ideal self, real self to her work, to the education, to her mother, etc.). The study involved 110 mothers. In this study, we have used combination of three methods: essay, questioning, method of color metaphors. The results were processed by sign test, cluster and content analyses. Based on these results we made a conclusion that mothers during maternity leave understand the phenomena of selfrealization differently. Consequently, they differently define the essence of self-realization and define different types of self-realization. Content analysis showed that women who value self-realization are focused primarily on the internal condition and being in harmony and not on external factors. Unrealized women are influenced by external factors: lack of work or conflicts with her husband.
