BackgroundNowadays, growing attention was being given to the alternative ways to prevent or treat diseases. Nutraceuticals are used increasingly for this purpose. Many of these are being used as alternative therapy. Classic therapy with synthetic drugs, although very effective, has many side effects. The term “nutraceuticals” refers to the link between the nutritional and pharmaceutical domains. Also, lately, many studies have been done to investigate the role of microbiota in maintaining health. There is the hypothesis that some of the health benefits of nutraceuticals are due to their ability to change the microbiota. The aim of this review was to emphasize the link between the most commonly used nutraceuticals, the microbiota and the health benefits.MethodsWe selected the articles in PubMed, published up to July 2017, that provided information about most used nutraceuticals, microbiota and health benefits. In this review, we incorporate evidence from various types of studies, including observational,in vitroandin vivo, clinical studies or animal experiments.ResultsThe results demonstrate that many nutraceuticals change the composition of microbiota and can interfere with health status of the patients.DiscussionThere is evidence which sustains the importance of nutraceuticals in people’s health through microbiota but further studies are needed to complete the assessment of nutraceuticals in health benefit as a consequence of microbiota’s changing.

SUMMARYSecond-generation antipsychotic medications (SGAs) have advanced the treatment of schizophrenia over the past 30 years. However, a number of potentially life-threatening cardiac side-effects associated with these treatments concern and can discourage prescribers from administering these evidence-based treatments. This review provides a practical, psychiatrist-oriented understanding of the relative frequencies, mechanisms, investigations and treatments associated with these cardiac toxicities. We aim to highlight that these are relatively rare complications of an effective class of drug and to promote the advantages of early involvement of cardiologists in the psychiatric multidisciplinary team to guide the investigation and management of these conditions.LEARNING OBJECTIVESAfter reading this article you will be able to: •understand the relative incidence of cardiotoxic side-effects of the various SGAs•perform preliminary investigations to diagnose the common cardiotoxic side-effects of SGAs•understand the treatments for these cardiac side-effects and the role of cardiologists involved the care of these patients.

Gliomas are the commonest primary brain tumours in adults. They are usually classified and graded according to the criteria by the World Health Organisation. High-grade gliomas are the most malignant primary brain tumours. Conventional therapies include surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. The tumours often demonstrate high levels of resistance to these conventional therapies, and in spite of treatment advances the prognosis remains poor.

In today's fast and competitive world, there is change in the lifestyle of women which leads to their physical and mental stress, women mostly get affected by this environment and are prone to gynaecological problems. Common health problem or gynaecological problem in women is white discharge, foul smell discharge, itching at vulvar region, burning micturition. Cervical erosion is a condition seen in the age group of 20-40 years with more of Kapha dominance. Kandu, Yoni Srava and other features of Kapha Pittadushti are seen in cervical erosion. It is seen as red circular granular surface surrounding the cervical os bathed in discharges. On the study of etiological factors, sign and symptoms the disease is found to be caused by Kapha – Pittadosha Prokopa affecting Yoni and Garbhasayamukha leading to Samprapti which manifests as cervical erosion. Based on symptomatology, cervical erosion can be correlated with Karnini Yonivyapad. Karnini is an abnormal proliferation of cervical epithelium which may produce abnormal discharge, alter the vaginal pH and cervical mucus plug. Chikitsa of Karnini Yonivyapad is Yoni Prakshalana,Yoni Pichu Dharana, Yoni Varti Dharana, Agni Karma and Kshara Karma. Kaphahara line of treatment should be done. Diet also plays an important role in cervical erosion so proper Pathya Apathtya are to be followed.

Skin diseases are taken up as a social stigma, due to altered appearance. Psoriasis is one of the most repulsive skin diseases which may disturb patient’s life. It usually runs a chronic course with remission and exacerbations. As far as treatment is concerned modern medical science has number of therapeutic measures which provide temporary relief accompanied by side effects and which make the patients to take lifelong treatment. So it is a need to find out an effective radical cure for psoriasis through Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda all skin diseases are taken under generalized term Kustha. In present study psoriasis is considered as Ekakustha, one type of Kshudrakustha. As Shodhana therapy is essential in the management of all skin diseases, Virechana Karma was selected because it is the only procedure which acts upon all three Doshas and Raktadi Dushyas which are vitiated in Kustha. After Virechana Karma, Shamana treatment was also given to alleviate remaining Doshas and to continue the normal state of Dhatus. This clinical trial was conducted on total 13 patients of psoriasis (Ekakustha) to compare the effect of Virechana Purvaka Shamana with only Shamana. For Shamana purpose Shamana Sneha (Panchatikta Ghrita) along with some Rasayana drugs were used. Duration of Shamana treatment was 2 months in both groups. Patients of both the groups showed significant results. But Virechana Purvaka Shamana was found to be more effective than only Shamana.

Menorrhagia is a most common gynecological problem found in gynaec OPD. It is not a disease but it is symptom found in many gynecological disorders. Menorrhagia is characterized by the excessive bleeding per vaginum in amount and duration both. In Ayurvedic classics, Menorrhagia is termed as ‘Asrigdara’, means excessive discharge of blood per vaginum, backache, pain in lower abdomen and weakness are also present in this disease. Asrigdara, also known as Raktapradara, is mainly due to vitiation of Vata, Pitta and Rakta dosha hence, the treatment should be based on the use of drugs which are having predominance of Kashaya and Tikta rasa. They are known as best astringent and because of this property they plays important role in relieving bleeding discharge due to its Stambhana action. In Ayurveda classics, many preparations can be used for management of Asrigdara by considering factors such as parity, age & desire of patient with regard to contraception, future pregnancy etc. Which are non-hormonal, non-surgical & most effective without side effects and also cost effective. In this case, Sharapunkha (i.e. Tephrosia purpurea, Pers) mula Churna with Tandulodaka was selected for screening and re-establishing its specific effect in the management of Menorrhagia.
