Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products intended to improve physical appearance, health, beauty and skin ailments. Drugs used to control acne, anti-wrinkle effects, protect from sun burn, improves complexation, delayed effect of ageing and improve skin textures, etc. are comes under category of cosmeceuticals. Cosmeceuticals may be synthetic, natural or hybrid depending upon their compositions. Herbal cosmeceuticals are gaining great attention now a day’s due to their wide range of availability and fewer side effects. There are enormous plants and natural ingredients available commercially as cosmeceuticals. Herbal cosmetics originated naturally from plants, sea, rock salt and soil, etc. Generally herbal cosmetics are free from harmful synthetic chemicals and considered safe to use. Many medicinal plants and herbs offers effect like cosmeceuticals and used extensively for same purpose globally. Natural herbs such as; Neem, Kapoor, Henna, Hirda, Behada, Amalaki, Bringaraj, Rosary Pea and Mandor, etc. are used in cosmetic industry for various purpose. This article presented a descriptive review on Herbal cosmeceuticals.

Herbal cosmetics are formulated by using different cosmetic ingredients to form the base in which one or more herbal ingredients are wont to cure various skin ailment. The name suggests that herbal cosmetics are natural and free from all the harmful synthetic chemicals which otherwise may convince be toxic to the skin. Compared to other beauty products, natural cosmetics are safe to use. They are hypo-allergenic and tested and proven by dermatologists to be safe to use anytime, anywhere. Cosmeceuticals are cosmeticpharmaceutical hybrid products intended to enhance the health and wonder of the skin by providing a selected result, starting from acne-control and anti-wrinkle effects to sun protection. Cosmeceuticals have medicinal benefits which affect the biological functioning of skin depending upon the sort of functional ingredients they contain. These are cosmetic products that aren't just used for beautification but for different skin ailments. These products improve the functioning/texture of the skin by boosting collagen growth by eradicating harmful effects of free radicals, maintain keratin structure in good condition, and making the skin healthier. There are numerous herbs available naturally having different uses in cosmetic preparations for skin care, hair care, and as antioxidants. The current review highlights the importance of herbal cosmetics, the herbs used in them, and their advantages over their synthetic counterparts.

Cancer is the second leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although chemotherapy and radiotherapy enhance the survival rate of cancerous patients but they have several acute toxic effects. Therefore, there is a need to search for new anticancer agents having better efficacy and lesser side effects. In this regard, herbal treatment is found to be a safe method for treating and preventing cancer. Here, an attempt has been made to screen some less explored medicinal plants like Ammania baccifera, Asclepias curassavica, Azadarichta indica, Butea monosperma, Croton tiglium, Hedera nepalensis, Jatropha curcas, Momordica charantia, Moringa oleifera, Psidium guajava, etc. having potent anticancer activity with minimum cytotoxic value (IC50 >3μM) and lesser or negligible toxicity. They are rich in active phytochemicals with a wide range of drug targets. In this study, these medicinal plants were evaluated for dose-dependent cytotoxicological studies via in vitro MTT assay and in vivo tumor models along with some more plants which are reported to have IC50 value in the range of 0.019-0.528 mg/ml. The findings indicate that these plants inhibit tumor growth by their antiproliferative, pro-apoptotic, anti-metastatic and anti-angiogenic molecular targets. They are widely used because of their easy availability, affordable price and having no or sometimes minimal side effects. This review provides a baseline for the discovery of anticancer drugs from medicinal plants having minimum cytotoxic value with minimal side effects and establishment of their analogues for the welfare of mankind.

Viral infections remain major “worldwide” cause of morbidity and mortality.  Herbal extracts or wholesome drugs have been in use for medicinal purposes since ancient time and are known for their antiviral properties and more tolerable side effects. Thus, naturally based pharmacotherapy is a proper alternative for treating viral diseases. Hence this article describes potential antiviral properties of medicinal plants against diverse group of viruses and suggests screening the potential of plants possessing broad spectrum anti-viral effects against viral diseases. Guduchyadi Kwath is a polyherb ayurvedic preparation useful in various diseases. It is useful in pitta vikar, shleshma vikar, Jwara, Chardi, Daha, Trushna, and Agnimandya1. According to modern science it showed anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, antimalarial, hepatoprotective, wound healing and immune-modulatory action. The study is aim to the effect of “Guduchyadi kashaya” on viral diseases.

Recently, preclinical and clinical studies targeting several types of cancer strongly supported the key role of the gut microbiota in the modulation of host response to anti-tumoral therapies such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and even surgery. Intestinal microbiome has been shown to participate in the resistance to a wide range of anticancer treatments by direct interaction with the treatment or by indirectly stimulating host response through immunomodulation. Interestingly, these effects were described on colorectal cancer but also in other types of malignancies. In addition to their role in therapy efficacy, gut microbiota could also impact side effects induced by anticancer treatments. In the first part of this review, we summarized the role of the gut microbiome on the efficacy and side effects of various anticancer treatments and underlying mechanisms. In the second part, we described the new microbiota-targeting strategies, such as probiotics and prebiotics, antibiotics, fecal microbiota transplantation and physical activity, which could be effective adjuvant therapies developed in order to improve anticancer therapeutic efficiency.

Autophagy is a vacuolar, lysosomal degradation pathway for injured and damaged protein molecules and organelles in eukaryotic cells, which is controlled by nutrients and stress responses. Dysregulation of cellular autophagy may lead to various diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and malignancy. Recently, natural compounds have come to attention for being able to modulate the autophagy pathway in cancer prevention, although the prospective role of autophagy in cancer treatment is very complex and not yet clearly elucidated. Numerous synthetic chemicals have been identified that modulate autophagy and are favorable candidates for cancer treatment, but they have adverse side effects. Therefore, different phytochemicals, which include natural compounds and their derivatives, have attracted significant attention for use as autophagy modulators in cancer treatment with minimal side effects. In the current review, we discuss the promising role of natural compounds in modulating the autophagy pathway to control and prevent cancer, and provide possible therapeutic options.

In today's era, most of the diseases are treated by allopathic drugs. The reliance on allopathic drugs for the treatment of most diseases is gradually increasing day by day due to their rapid effects and the immediate relief to patients. However, these drugs induce some serious side effects in patients, and in some cases, the patient may die. Thus, the interest of researchers is growing day by day towards medicinal plants for the treatment of diseases. It has also been viewed that some herbal plants have great therapeutic and pharmacological effects in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The initial studies, which have been carried out by different researchers, demonstrated very valuable results and enlighten a ray of hope for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease which is associated with CNS disfunction. In this article, the author focused on those plants which are especially used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

The spread of pandemic coronavirus disease-2019 has become a health emergency worldwide. Since the unprecedented outbreak, attention has been raised worldwide to develop and research for control options and treatments. Although several clinical trials are ongoing, no registered drugs or vaccines are available yet. As situation warrants for the exploration of a successful antiviral, there should be a search for the remedies in nature also. Medicinal plants and their metabolites have long been used as a treatment option for various life-threatening diseases with minimal or no side effects. Thus this review aims to summarize previous outcomes concerning the role of medicinal plants in treating several life-threatening diseases. Above all, this work intends to find the constituents of five selected medicinal plants and their possible working mechanisms in the management of COVID-19. Constituents of the presented medicinal plants possess excellent pharmacological properties, including significant antiviral and antimicrobial potential. Based on the traditional uses, pharmacological properties, and previous studies, these medicinal plants mentioned in this review can be considered as a possible therapeutic option for the management and treatment of COVID-19. However, further extensive researches and trials are suggested to discover specific effects and dosage for this pathogenic outbreak.

In today’s world, the demand for cosmetic products is increasing at a faster rate than before, and companies have begun to manufacture cosmetic products to cater to the needs of local and international users. This paper aims to explore the relationship between celebrity endorsement, promotional activities, packaging, brand image, and green consumer buying behavior in the cosmetic industry of Pakistan. It also examines the mediating role of the brand image between celebrity endorsement and green consumer buying behavior. The data was collected primarily through a 5 Likert scale questionnaire from the females of the four renowned Universities of Pakistan. The Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using ADANCO 2.0.1, used for data analysis, and the sample size contained 190 respondents. The findings revealed a significant direct relationship between celebrity endorsement, promotional activities, packaging of a product, and brand image with the green consumer buying behavior (Green CBB). Partial mediation was found between celebrity endorsement and green consumer buying behavior. This study has implications for practitioners and researchers interested in investing in green consumption in Pakistan.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) occupies an important place in the structure of mortality, as well as among the causes of disability and deterioration in the quality of life of the population. In this regard, the study of phytopreparations is promising for practical medicine in order to identify new medicinal plants that actively affect metabolic processes to prevent complications of DM, and create new phytopreparations. That drugs could enhance the effect of sulfonamides and potentiate the effect of insulin, thereby reducing the dose of the latter, and it is important for long-term chronic diseases, such as DM. The aim. To study the prospects for the use of phytopreparations in the complex treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods. The analytical, logical, generalization methods were used in the work. The analytical method of the study involved deepening the search for phytopreparations and the prospects for their use in the complex treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and generalization of the data obtained. The logical method of exploratory research of promising phytopreparations was applied in a certain logical sequence, as a result of which the specificity, stage-by-stage and generalization of the relevance of the use of phytopreparations in the complex treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus was provided for scientific research. The generalizing research method was to determine and prove the characteristics of phytopreparations (analysis and synthesis) and their advantages over synthetic drugs. Results and discussion. The main directions of herbal medicine for DM are associated with reproduction of the effects of insulin, normalization of glucose uptake, stimulation of regeneration of β-cells of the Langerhans islets, elimination of excess glucose from the body – phytopreparations with diuretic properties; elimination of hypoxia – phytopreparations-antihypoxants. In DM, herbal medicine will reduce the frequency of side effects in classical antidiabetic therapy. For any type of diabetes, herbal medicine is prescribed to patients as an improvement in the microcirculation of tissues, normalization of the functions of the cardiovascular and nervous systems, kidneys and eyes. Conclusions. Despite a wide range of drugs used to correct the hemodynamic and metabolic manifestations of the insulin resistance syndrome, they do not fully meet the needs of practical medicine due to the presence of pronounced side effects. In addition, the pharmaceutical market of herbal medicines is very limited and represented mainly by species of medicinal plants, which have certain inconveniences in their use. All this indicates the relevance of the search, creation and introduction of effective and, at the same time, low-toxic drugs based on the medicinal plant raw material into medical practice for the pharmacotherapy of type 2 diabetes and its complications
