In recent decades, the concept of sustainable development has become the key theoretical focus for most countries. Traditions and values play an important role in ensuring sustainable development, including the attitudes of the younger generation, especially of the student youth who plan their professional future in Russia or abroad. The student youth preferences largely determine the country's development strategy and the assessment of its human capital. In 2018, the authors conducted the second wave of the empirical study Spiritual-moral culture of the Russian university (first wave - in 2012) which focused on the values of students of such leading universities as the Lomonosov Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University, and of such regional universities as the Tyumen State University, Samara State Technical University and Sevastopol State University. The research was conducted by a mass survey of 2505 students, including an online questionnaire. The concept of traditionalist modernization was used as an explanatory model. The article presents the results of the factor analysis of students value orientations according to the Schwartz scale and of students leisure practices, and also such indicators as authority, responsibility and tolerance of students. The authors come to the conclusion about the youths universal values that are quite flexible in relation to both modernization and preservation of the Russian specifics, which is somewhat different from the 2012 study with a more evident commitment to traditionalism. The authors interpret this fact as a generational feature of people born in the prosperous 2000s, which proves the gradual transition of the Russian society to the universal values, a combination of different value foundations and a departure from paternalistic attitudes. The article presents the results of the comparative analysis of some priorities of metropolitan and regional universities students, identifies the specifics of both types of universities, which allows to stress the different degrees of values universalism.

This article shows that studying the views of future Russian lawyers on the projective future of society is a relevant development, since this particular socio-professional group does not only put forward certain demands in regards to projective subjective social wellbeing, but also possesses the lawmaking potential necessary for the transformation and normative engineering of Russian society. The article analyzes the results of the author’s own research, conducted in 2016 in 12 cities of Russia (based on All- Russian State University of Justice and its subsidiaries). According to the author, the results of research in the field reveal a relatively high level of subjective wellbeing registered among the respondents, with their core values being justice, freedom, upholding law and order, public initiative. In order to measure normative expectations, those surveyed were offered to characterize three models of a supposed society using an array of parameters: “the best society” (utopian), “a bad society” (dystopian) and “a good society” (one that’s attainable and suitable for life and personal growth). As a result, certain projective requirement indexes were obtained for implementing these models in a future society. It came as somewhat of a surprise that, in spite of the widespread belief that the value orientations of modern youth have a “consumer” nature to them, material wellbeing turned out to be far from the most significant parameter. The highest values were shown by indexes which correlated with such virtues as justice, equality and lawfulness, which speaks to their considerable influence on the respondents’ evaluation of their subjective wellbeing. The authors also noticed a fundamental difference when it comes to future Russian lawyers’ thoughts on the paths towards attaining justice. The indexes for a society constantly subject to reform and a conservative society were practically on the same level. This indirectly points to the existence of a deeply rooted divide when it comes to values, indicating that people are looking into the future with uncertainty, which is proven by a multitude of studies done by other authors.

Introduction. The article analyzes the phenomenon of reproducing authoritarian scenario of social and political modernization of Russia in the XX century. It is noted that the stability of political tradition of authoritarian governance can be explained by the mechanisms of action of the constants of Russian political culture, the presence of a certain modernization potential in authoritarian political institutions, as well as by geopolitical and geoeconomic conditions. Methods. Using the general scientific principle of complementarity, the author compares sociocultural, institutional and civilizational (technological) approaches to the analysis of Russian political culture. Causal explanations in combination with the analog method make it possible to reveal the relationship between the constants of political culture and various non-political practices of social life. The systemic and sociocultural approach is used to consider homogeneity and heterogeneity in the political culture of Russia, as well as the role of values in its impact on the process of modernization. Analysis. The author substantiates the conclusion that explanations of the content of Russian political culture, as well as the mechanisms and stability of its impact on the political process, are to be sought in the foundations of social organization and management of Russian society, the peculiarities of maintaining its social discipline and resolving conflicts, as well as in political experience of actors. It is argued that the depth of the split in the political culture of Russia and the strength of its impact on society and the political process are exaggerated. The manifestations of the unity of value orientations and political attitudes of the elite and wide strata of the population are considered. A variant of the periodization of Russian modernization is presented, demonstrating the historical logic of solving the problems of modernization, the objective conditionality of a gradual transition from an authoritarian to a democratic way of its implementation. The article shows the possibility of using integrating values of Russian political culture to substantiate the democratic version of its development.

The article studies moral and spiritual values as regulators of relations in social systems that determine the worldview of the individual and the development vector of modern society, building value orientations as the basis of national security. Attention is drawn to the fact that the mass culture of the virtual Internet space freely erases the national borders of countries and continents, creating conflicts and crises on a global scale. The article substantiates the need for a modern state to support its own culture and values in the context of information globalization, to prevent the imposition of the values of other cultures, and to develop conditions for optimal integration without destructive consequences for society. It is shown that to ensure the national security of modern Russian society, it is necessary to: form public and national consciousness; maintain the cultural and value potential of the nation; develop spiritual and moral values of dialogical interaction of communities; develop a stable spiritual immunity of the individual based on the national values of the state; include a cultural and value dominant in development strategy of the country.

This paper seeks to achieve the following objectives: to discuss the idea of unity from the Islamic and secular perspectives; to test empirically how the absence of certain universal values (virtues) in the pursued development strategies shattered unity and thereby led to the Ummah’s disintegration; to examine how the interrelationships between growth and democracy can promote unity by creating a civil society through higher human development; and to examine the Organization of the Islamic Conference’s (OIC) role in strengthening unity among diverse Muslim communities.

In this article, the concept of education for sustainable development is substantiated and expanded upon from a socio-economic perspective. Incorporating the concept of the economic citizen, we present the liberal republican civic ethos, moral judgement, decision-making capabilities and key competencies relevant for sustainability together with an informed understanding of economic context as constitutive elements of the educational concept. Against the backdrop of the limited reach of individual behavioural changes and the necessary reflections on structural questions, a heuristic of shared responsibility for sustainable development will be devised.
