The descriptive research aims to diagnose the difficulties of secondary school students in understanding Cube and Rectangular Prism. Geometry test and interview are used as the instrument. The subjects are 3 seventh grade students who respectively represent high, medium and low ability in mathematics. This research finds that the students have difficulties in understanding the properties of a cube and rectangular prism, inventing the surface area, and using the formula to determine the surface area. The difficulty in using the formula to solve related problems is an effect of memorizing ready-made formula without understanding so the students are easy to forget it. The alternative ways to cope with the difficulties are: (a) Using computer application (PowerPoint, Ms. Word with SmartArt Graphic) and other current software like Cabri Geometry, The Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP), Geometry Expert, Logo, Geogebra, and Wingeom; (b) Activating students’ prior knowledge about plane which explains the side of the solid figures; (c) Implementing guided discovery learning with students’ worksheet; and (d) giving variation exercises involving contextual or non-contextual problems.

[Bahasa]: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiagnosis kesulitan belajar siswa SMP dalam mehamai materi kubus balok dan menemukan alternatif pemecahannya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes geometri dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menguasai konsep kubus dan balok, menemukan rumus luas permukaan kubus balok, dan menggunakan rumus luas permukaan kubus dan balok. Kesulitan menggunakan rumus pada penyelesaian soal sebagai akibat dari menghafal rumus siap pakai, sehingga siswa sering lupa dengan rumus. Alternatif pemecahan kesulitan belajar siswa tersebut, yaitu: (a) Menggunakan aplikasi komputer (Power point, Ms Word dengan SmartArt Graphic) dan software seperti Cabri Geometry, The Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP), Geometry Expert, Logo, Geogebra, dan Wingeom; (b) Mengaktifkan dengan baik materi prasyarat tentang bangun datar yang menjelaskan sisi-sisi pada bangun ruang; (c) Menerapkan metode penemuan terbimbing menggunakan LKS terbimbing; dan (d) memperbanyak mengerjakan latihan soal baik yang bersifat kontekstual maupun soal-soal yang bersifat non-kontekstual. This study examined Dynamism of instructional aids on teaching of Physical Education among secondary school in Kogi State, Nigeria. Descriptive research design of survey type was used. The population for this study consist all Secondary School students within the study area. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select 394 respondents. Researcher–structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three lectures in the department of Human Kinetics Education, University of Ilorin and tested for reliability. A correlation coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. The administration of the instrument was done by the researchers. The data collected were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and percentage count. The results revealed that, there was a significant relationship between behavioural benefits and cognitive benefits of instructional aids on teaching of Physical Education among Secondary Schools. The study concluded that uses of instructional aids are significant to quality teaching of physical education in schools. The study recommends that effective uses of instructional aids plays a significant role in teaching and learning of Physical Education in schools which also enhance the behavioural and cognitive benefits of the students.

This study aimed to describe the profile of secondary school students with high mathematics ability in solving shape and space problem in PISA (Program for International Student Assessment). It is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach, in which the subjects in this study were students of class VIII SMP N 1 Banda Aceh. The results show that in solving the problem PISA on  shape and space, high mathematics ability students were able to identify the problem by making the information known from PISA issues related to the shape and space content.Keyword: Profile, Problem Solving, Task of PISA DOI: dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.61.20

En el presente trabajo se pretende dar a conocer las creencias que tienen los estudiantes de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria acerca de la diversidad funcional, a partir de un estudio principalmente de carácter descriptivo realizado mediante la técnica de encuesta aplicada a 442 adolescentes de entre doce y dieciocho años, tanto de la Región de Murcia como de la Comunidad Valenciana. Los resultados muestran que los adolescentes que han crecido en una sociedad considerada inclusiva tienen una opinión respetuosa y beneficiosa respecto a la integración de personas con diversidad funcional en la sociedad, si bien esta opinión está vinculada, entre otros aspectos, al centro en el que estudie o a la relación con la discapacidad. This article presents Compulsory Secondary Education students’ beliefs on functional diversity. The study adopted a mainly descriptive research design based on the administration of surveys to 442 adolescents between the ages of twelve and eighteen, both in the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community. The results show that these adolescents, in having grown up in a society considered inclusive, have respectful and positive opinions regarding the integration in society of people with functional diversity. These opinions are linked, among other aspects, to the secondary school students attend and to their relationship with disability.

Metaphor is associated with expressions such as symbolic expression, connotation and simile. Metaphor is the use of similes to liken, compare and explain something with another. The concepts have been tried to be analyzed through metaphors in many studies. Although studies on the analysis of metaphors in different branches and branches of studies are frequently encountered, studies on analysis through metaphors in music and music education are less common than other areas of education. This study aims to analyze the opinions of secondary school students about music concept by means of metaphors, and to determine the students’ perceptions regarding music and music lesson through metaphors and to give a different and effective direction to music education. The study group consisted of 1003 students attending at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades at nine secondary schools selected from Erzurum, Turkey in 2017-2018 academic year by Random Sampling method. The study was carried out by the Descriptive Research Model. In this study, Phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods, was used and the data were processed by the Content Analysis method. The data obtained were digitized and analyzed by coding in SPSS packet program. As a result of this research, it was determined that secondary school students had a high interest and affection towards music and music lesson and their music preferences were pop music. In addition, 68 kinds of metaphors and 13 kinds of conceptual categories related to music were obtained from 1003 participants. It was found that the most frequently repeated metaphors were “Friend” and “Love”, and generally the students' perceptions were positive towards the concept of music and music lesson, and the metaphors produced differed according to gender, class and music preference variables.

Writing is one of the language skills, which is taught to secondary school students. In reality, it is still found that students have difficulties in writing. It is needed to investigate why it happened. Thus, the purpose of this research is to determine the students' factor difficulties in writing a narrative text. Moreover, it was designed as descriptive research which took sixty students of the eighth grade of MTs Sabilal Muhtadin Tembilahan as the samples. In collecting the data, the researchers used questionnaires and interviews. Then the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis. The research findings show that there are two main factors; students' factors and teachers' factors. After analyzing the data, the results revealed that the students' factor gained a percentage of 62.43% which was placed at a strong level. Also, the teachers' factor obtained a percentage of 72.95% which was classified as a strong level. The highest students’ factor indicator was the statement “English is very different from Bahasa Indonesia." It was proven by the score 75.3% which was categorized as a strong level. Then the teachers’ factor found that the highest indicator was the statement “Using up to date method and technique." It was classified as a strong level. In conclusion, the factors of students' difficulties in writing narrative text cause both students' and teachers' factors.

This study was conducted to assess secondary school students’ perception of civic dispositions in Ekiti State. The study adopted descriptive research design of the survey type. Population of the study consisted of 208,956 secondary school students while the sample consisted of 1200 Senior Secondary School II and III students selected through multi-stage sampling procedure. One research question and two research hypotheses were raised for the study. A self-constructed questionnaire tilted “Students’ Perception of Civic Disposition Questionnaire” (SPCDQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by Social Studies experts while reliability test conducted using test retest method yielded 0.77 coefficients. Findings of the study revealed that secondary school students perspectives on civic disposition was positive and that exhibition of traits such as avoidance of abusive arguments, obeying laws of the land, love of the country, loyalty to the principles of democracy, tolerating others for peaceful coexistence and speaking the truth are required for democratic system of government to thrive. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that students should be encouraged to always demonstrate civic dispositions and participate in political discussions, show respect for national identity and participate actively in community service as ways to eschew anti-democratic activities. The preliminary research showed that students at the eleventh grade of State Senior High School 2 Enok had anxiety in the English examination. It can be seen that some of the students were confused in the English examination because the students got anxious. This research aimed to investigate the students’ anxiety in English examination at the eleventh grade of State Senior High School 2 Enok. Descriptive research is employed as the design. The population of the research was the students at the eleventh grade of state senior high school 2 Enok. The number of samples was selected by using a technique called simple random sampling. The sample was 30 students. The researchers obtained the data from the questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics calculated by SPSS 20.0 program. The findings showed that the majority of students’ anxiety at the eleventh grade of State Senior High School 2 Enok was mediocre with 66.67%. Some of them were at a low level with 33.33%. While 0% in a high level.  Thus, based on the data obtained it could be concluded that the students still have anxiety in English examination even at the mediocre level.
