Pragmatics is a study of contextual meaning. Finding out the context and meaning of a conversation can be learned through deixis. This research analyzes types of deixis such as personal, time and place deixis. This research discusing about recount text entitled "The Clever Servant" as the instrument of this study. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. The steps to analyze data are searching the story, reading the story, finding the data based on three kinds of deixis above. In this research, there was 27 deixis found in the text. The most common type of deixis is person deixis with 19 words. Whereas place deixis has 5 words and time deixis has 3 words. In this study, the researcher find out that personal deixis is the dominant type in the text. Keywords:  Deixis, Pragmatics, The Clever Servant

The aim of this study is to analyze the types of figurative language which found in Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover. This study used figurative language theory by Leech to analyze the data which the researcher found in the novel. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative method. The total of the data are 87 data to be analyzed in the types of figurative language. The data will be identify and classify into 8 types of figurative language by Leech. The result of this study found 6 types of figurative language in this Ugly Love novel. That are 33 data of personifications (33 data) , 19 data of similes, 11 data of irony, 10 data of hyperbole, 9 data of metaphors, and 5 data of metonymy. The most of dominant type of figurative language in the Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover is personification.

The article deals with the translation strategies used in Toba Dream Movie. The objectives of this study were to find out types and most dominant type of translation strategies used in the subtitles of Toba Dream movie. The study was conducting by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were words, phrases, and clauses in the subtitle of  Toba  Dream movie, there  were 425 dialogues in the movie. The data analysis were taken by listing and tabulating the data. The data were analyzed based on the theory that proposed by Henrik Gottlieb. The findings inducted that there  were ten types of translation strategies used in the movie, they were there were (319 times)used transfer strategy,  (37 times) used paraphrase, (27 times) used dislocation, (20 times)used resignation, (10times) used expansion, (5 times)used decimation, (4 times) utterances which used condesation, (1time) used imitation, (1time) used transcription and (1time) used deletion. The dominant strategy used in the subtitles of Toba Dream movie was transfer strategy where the translator  translated the dialogues completely and correctly.

The purpose of the analysis is to find out the attitude of trust showed by King David in Holy Bible in the book of Psalm. This analysis reveals the attitude of trust that is stated by words in poetry in the book of Psalm. Descriptive Qualitative method is used to analyze primary and secondary data from the book of Psalm and also from the articles or books that support the data by using some steps or procedures that is : to organize and prepare all the data needed, read the data which is the book of Psalm and other references then analyze data by identifying the sentences that represent the statement of having a trust of King David to God. The meaning of this learning both theory and practice is expected to give contribution to the readers about what and how trust is and how they apply it well and correctly. AbstractThis research is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's song lyrics it aims to know the types of figurative language that are used in Taylor swift lyrics and describe the contextual meaning of the figurative language used in Taylor's lyrics. The research data is obtained from two songs from one albumof Taylor Swift. The album titled Red with three songs taken entitles Red and 22. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in observation and library research in collecting data of this research. Figurative language found consists of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, irony and personification. In this research, these findingsshow that hyperbole is the most dominant in Taylor Swift’s song and based on the contextual meaning of overall song lyrics of Taylor Swift tell about conflict, pain heart and deeply treachery.Keywords: song, lyric, figurative language, contextual meaning

This study aims to determine the use and meaning of figurative language (majas) in poetry. The sample of this study is ten poems from two different writers of the era, namely Shakespeare and Wordsworth. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and an objective approach used to analyze data. Figurative language (majas) was analyzed based on theories from Wren and Martin and also analyzed the meaning of each figurative language (majas) that had been discovered. The figurative language (majas) found is presented in tabular form. From the data analysis, all figurative languages ??(majas) were found in Shakespeare's five poems except Euphemism and Irony. In Wordsworth's poem, all figurative languages ??(majas) are found except Synecdoche and Irony. From the figurative language (majas) that has been found and from the author's background, it has been concluded that Shakespeare is a Poetic person, he usually uses some beautiful words. Meanwhile, Wordsworth is a Romantic person. He usually talks about love, feelings and even sadness which is always associated with the loss of someone he loves.

English fanfiction kpop was the stories who created by fans’ to their idol by their imagination and used English in created the stories the reason was because kpopers / readers whole the world can read the stoeries and benefit for the author can improved their English skill especially in writing and vocabulary. The objectives of this study were to describe the linguistics form and the meaning of register used in English fanfiction kpop “Miss Perfect Idol” at www.asianfanfics.com website. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method. The data obtained from www.asianfanfics.com on 24th February 2018 . The researchers found out the linguistic forms in English fanfiction kpop “Miss Perfect Idol” there were noun (twenty five data of noun), adjective (six data of adjective) , verb (five data of verb), interjection (two data of interjection), adverb of place (one data of adverb of place). In the meaning of register the reseachers found the high frequency data of register meaning that was contextual meaning, the data consist of 20 contextual meaning (51.3%) and 19 lexical meaning (48.7%). The contextual meaning more frequently appeared because there were a lot of new vocabularies created by kpopers and the author of fanfic and the vocabularies used in fanfiction.

This research focused on communicative functions used in Ulaon Pogu ni Alaman in Exhumation (Mangongkal Holi) at funeral ceremony in Toba Batak. This research was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from the transcript utterances of Ulaon Pogu ni Alaman at funeral ceremony in Toba Batak. The findings of the study show that there are 100 utterances which consist of six communicative functions which is referential, emotive, poetic, conative, phatic, and metalinguistic. The most dominant type of communicative functions used in Ulaon Pogu ni Alaman in Exhumation (Mangongkal Holi) at funeral ceremony in Toba Batak is referential function. It means that the communication used in Ulaon Pogu ni Alaman intended to establish the description and contextual information that happened on that day. Keywords: communicative functions; Batak Toba; funeral ceremony; Ulaon Pogu ni Alaman.

The purpose of this study was to determine the struggle of the main character namely Rocky in Don't Breathe Movie. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the struggles of the main characters in Don't Breathe Movie written by Fede Álvarez to make paper arrangements correctly. The procedures that the writer takes to get the best results are observing and understanding the movie, collecting data consisting of struggles, choosing theories to analyze data, analyzing data using theories, making conclusions from the analysis, and finally compiling the final project. The results of this study are the writer finds three types of struggle namely; struggle for life, struggle for love and, internal struggle. The struggle of life when the main character in the movie survives with full force in any situation, the struggle of love when the character in the movie has a feeling of love with other characters, the internal struggle when the character in the movie has desires and problems in her life. This movie teaches humans about how important the struggle in life and make a better change, never give up and despair. This study investigates non-literal meaning in ‘Christmas Carol’ story written by a famous British author, Charles Dickens. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken or collected from words, phrases, and sentences on ‘Christmas Carol’ novella, without reducing, adding, or changing any parts from the original source.  The data were analyzed to answer three research questions: (1) What types of non-literal meaning are found in Christmas Carol story? (2) What are the interpretations of those non-literal meanings found in Christmas Carol story? (3) What is the most dominant type of non-literal meaning found in Christmas Carol story? In order to avoid bias, validator triangulation was used. The study found 11 idiom, 14 Simile, 6 Hyperbole, 6 Alliteration, 5 Personification, 3 Anaphora, 3 Onomatopoeia, 2 Irony, 2 Synecdoche, 2 Sarcasm, 1 Metaphor, and 1 Litotes. Simile was the non-literal meaning’s type which was mostly used in the story, although the percentage was still less than 50%. These findings indirectly could help the readers to understand deeper the message or the story that the author wants to convey. It is suggested for future researchers to investigate the non-literal meaning of others literary works such as tale, folklore, fairy tale, short-story, fable, etc. and media such as movie, drama, speech script etc. It is because other type of non-literal meaning and different ways of using them could be found in these literary works and media.
