AbstractThis research is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's song lyrics it aims to know the types of figurative language that are used in Taylor swift lyrics and describe the contextual meaning of the figurative language used in Taylor's lyrics. The research data is obtained from two songs from one albumof Taylor Swift. The album titled Red with three songs taken entitles Red and 22. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in observation and library research in collecting data of this research. Figurative language found consists of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, irony and personification. In this research, these findingsshow that hyperbole is the most dominant in Taylor Swift’s song and based on the contextual meaning of overall song lyrics of Taylor Swift tell about conflict, pain heart and deeply treachery.Keywords: song, lyric, figurative language, contextual meaning

Language is a tool of communication used by people anywhere and every time. Now days people commonly find a figurative language in daily life, for example in a lyric of song. Figurative language is a way to express an idea in implicit way. This research is trying to analyze the figurative languages which exist in the lyric of song “A Whole New World” and trying to find out its meaning by analyzing its contextual meaning. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data instrument is the song lyric which taken from Genius website. The result showed that this song consist of some figurative languages, such as alliteration, simile, personification, metaphor, and hyperbole. Furthermore, the most figurative language used in the lyric is metaphor. It is highly relatable with the imaginative theme of the song itself. The contextual meaning of each figurative language is also explained based on the situation of the lyric.

Individuals use language as a means of communication everywhere and at all times. In today's world, figurative language is often encountered in everyday life, such as in song lyrics. Figurative language is a way of describing something without saying it directly. This research aims to investigate the figurative languages found in the lyrics of the song "Grenade" by analyzing their context and attempting to decipher their meaning. The data tool is song lyrics found on the internet, and the research approach is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results revealed that this album employs figurative language such as metaphor, hyperbole, and repetition. Furthermore, the most figurative words used in the lyrics is hyperbole. The research aims to describe the functions of humor used in an American comedy movie The Boss. The subject of the research was American comedy movie The Boss. Descriptive qualitative method was used to conduct the research. Data collection was done through library research and documentation. Data analysis was done through identification, coding, classification and description. The researcher found several findings. Supported by Meyers theory of joke, there are 6 functions of jokes found in the movie such as to insult someone, to express anger, to tease someone, to relieve tension, to get attention, and to amuse others. The dominant function was differentiation particularly to insult and to express anger 21 times, the second was clarification particularly to relieve tension humorous lines and amuse others 15 times, the third was enforcement particularly to tease 18 times, and the last was identification particularly to relieve tension and to get attention 27 times. These functions were also analyzed and discriminated by different setting and participant based on formality and participants distance. According to the analysis, most jokes occurred in informal situation with intimate relationship among the participants and functioned to tease someone and to relieve tension. This finding also proves that American humor is expressed with more slapstick and vulgarity as the characteristic of American humor used in daily communication. Dysphemism is an expression with connotations that are offensive either about the denotatum or the audience. It is used to talk about one’s opponents, things one wishes to show disapproval of, and things one wishes to be seen to downgrade. The topic of dysphemism is crucial to investigate because dysphemism is the infraction of the rules of politeness that deals with the matters of face and face effects.This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The approach used in this research is library research. Data taken from taking notes and observation.This article is written to explain dysphemism in the perspective of Semantics, Sociolinguistics, and Discourse Analysis.

Figurative language is a part of semantic. This research analyzed the figurative language used in the lyric of Awaken by Maher Zain. The aims of this research are to figure out the figurative languages used in the lyric of Awaken  and to analyze the contextual meaning of figurative language used in that song lyric. It is expected the result of this research will be useful for the reader especially in describing what figurative language is and what kinds of figurative language are. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The lyrics of song is got from kapanlagi.com entitle Awaken. The result found that there are some kinds of figurative language used in Maher Zain’s song entitle Awaken, such as hyperbole, rhetoric, repetition and personification. The contextual meaning of each figurative language is also clarified. The conclusion of this research is there are some kinds of figurative language use by Maher Zain in his song entitle Awaken.

The title of this research is analyzing the Deixis of Song Lyrics in Adele entitled “All I Ask”. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in this research. This research are aimed to find out the types of deixis (Personal, Spatial, and Temporal) and the most dominant deixis which found in the lyrics of Adele's song. Based on the results and discussion, the researchers concluded that all deixis which proposed by Yule are found in Adele’s song lyrics. Personal deixis is mostly found in 38 occurrences dominate in this song. The words are “I, me, we, our, ours, us, and my” as the first person deixis, “you, and your” as the second person deixis, and “they and it” as the third person deixis. In the second position is spatial deixis, this, and in your eyes which found in 5 occurrences. The third position is temporal deixis, coming next, tomorrow, and last night which found in 3 occurrences. Keywords:  Deixis, Song, Lyric

The aims of this research are to describe figurative language and meaning of figurative language.The method of this research is descriptive qualitative method which analyzes figurative language.The result of this research is to find the figurative language song lyric Lenka Kripac. The results are repetisi with percentage 22,7%. Antisipasi, koreksio, sinisme, and koreksio are 2,3%.

Literary works are closely related to everyday human life and are the thoughts or expressions of the author. Literary works as the author's expression represent experiences, thoughts, feelings, and ideas expressed by using language as the medium. This study aims to analyze the collective unconsciousness of the characters in Ahmad Fuadi's novel Anak Rantau through the psychoanalytic approach of Carl Gustav Jung. This research is a type of library research. The research data is in the form of a novel entitled Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. From the results of the study, it was found: (1) the personal role of Datuk Marajo, which displays a different character to cover the character that belongs to him, (2) the role of the archetype of anima in Martiaz, namely the feminine side of a man, (3) ) the role of shadow (shadow) in the character Jenggo to cover his mistakes, and (4) the role of self-archetype (self) in Datuk Marajo to get calm.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to identify the types of figurative language used in the lyric of Saif Adam songs and the dominant types of figurative language found in the lyric of Saif Adam songs. The method used in this study is a descrptive qualitative method. This research used the theory of Perrine. The researcher found 8 types of figurative language used in Saif Adam’s song lyrics such as hyperbole, irony, metaphor, personification, simile, litotes, metonymy, and paradox. The data were collected by reading the lyrics of Saif Adam’s song. There were 14 of hyperbole, 3 of Irony, 20 of metaphor, 11 of personification, 10 of simile, 5 of litotes, 10 of metonymy, and 7 of paradox. This study found that the most dominant type of figurative language was metaphor with the percentage of 25%. It was followed by hyperbole with the percentage of 17.5%. Then, it was followed by personification with percentage 13.75%,. simile and metonymy with the percentage of 11.3%. And also it was followed by paradox and litotes with the proportion of 7.9% and 5.6%. Irony was the least dominant one with the percentage of only 3.4%.Key words :  Semantics, Figurative language, Song, Religious Song, Lyric.

The objectives of this study are: 1) to find out the meaning of metaphorical symbols in Linkin Park’s song lyrics; 2) to find out the contribution of Linkin Park’s song lyrics to teaching poetry. In this study, the writer applies the descriptive qualitative approach in this study to analyze implicit meaning of metaphorical symbols used in Linkin Park’s song lyrics. Besides that, the writer wants to describe its contribution to teaching poetry. The finding show that the writer found 38 metaphorical symbols in the five Linkin Park’s song lyric. It consists of 4 symbols in the Numb, 14 symbols in Hands Held High, 5 symbols in What I’ve done, 5 symbols in New Divide, 10 symbols in Final Masquerade. Through using those song lyrics, the students can learn the figurative languages which can be found in those song lyrics, especially metaphorical symbols. The students can understand the meaning of the metaphorical symbols which can enrich their vocabulary through learn the examples of implicit meaning analysis in this study. So they are able to choose and combine the appropriate dictions. Finally, they will be able to create a good poetry which has deep and beautiful meaning. The writer suggests that the teachers should use an appropriate and interesting learning source in teaching writing and appreciating poetry. Song lyrics in Linkin Park consist of a lot of words, phrases, and sentences with the figurative language, especially metaphorical symbols which has implicit and deep meaning. Through delivering those songs lyrics, the students will get the inspiration and motivation in writing and appreciating poetry.
