This study investigates the technique of translating mechanical engineering terms from Indonesian to English in accredited national journal abstracts and the quality of the translation results. Qualitative descriptive is used as a research method. The abstracts taken as data are from the national journals accredited in 2019 and 2020, consisting of 59 articles. In collecting data, document analysis is used as a tool to collect data. The results showed that adaptation techniques, common equivalent techniques, literal translation techniques, calque techniques, and pure borrowing techniques are techniques used in translating mechanical engineering terms, and the average value of the quality of the translation results is good. Keywords:  Translation Techniques, Translation Quality, Mechanical Engineering Terms

Sarcasm is a harsher style of satire in hurtful jokes with a specific purpose. Sarcasm is the dominant language style used in Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck. This study aims to identify sentence forms of sarcasm and analyze the translation quality of sarcastic expressions. This translation study employs a qualitative descriptive design. The research data takes the form of sentences containing sarcasm and its translation. The data is collected through document analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions. The results showed four types of sarcasm in the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck, including ridicule, satire, proximity, and humor. Besides, the translation quality of the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck has a high level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, evidenced by the proper use of eleven translation techniques applied by the translator to 145 data. The frequent techniques contributing to the quality of translation are compensation, adaptation, transposition, and modulation techniques.

Translating the implied meanings in utterances is one of the trickiest situations translators may confront. One example is in translating utterances that flout the maxim of quality. When a speaker flouts the maxim of quality, they are implying further information that is not represented in the utterance. Translators use various translation techniques in order to convey the meaning of the original text in the most appropriate and acceptable form in the target text. This study investigates how translation techniques may affect the quality of a translation. The approach implemented in this study is pragmatics in translation. This study belongs to the field of descriptive qualitative research with an embedded case study. For data, we look at all the utterances which may be said to be flouting the maxim of quality in the source text and its translation. Content analysis and focus group discussion were applied as the methods to collect and analyze the data. A focus group discussion was used to assess translation quality. The majority of the data was classified as accurate and acceptable, while the rest was considered less accurate and inaccurate due to the application of the translation technique amplification (addition), discursive creation and literal translation. Some data was also found to be less acceptable due to literal translation and pure borrowing.

The objectives of the research are to identify the types of translation technique, to evaluate the translation quality and to find out the effect of translation techniques on the translation quality used by Pein Akatsuki and Deni Aurora in Indonesian subtitles of Coco movie. This research applies descriptive qualitative method to assess data with documents and informants as source of data. The result shows that there are 16 types of translation techniques used by Pein Akatsuki and Deni Aurora in translating Indonesian subtitles. For both subtitlers, literal translation and borrowing create high level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Modulation and the other techniques are showed in high and medium levels of accurate translation, but they result in high levels of acceptability and readability. Based on the findings, the translation techniques applied by the subtitlers contribute positively to the quality of Indonesian subtitles in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.

Subtitling is an effective way to provide dialogues or narrative for a movie. The benefit is for people to enjoy the film even though its different from their native language. They enjoy movies over the world with different countries and styles by the dialogues translated. This research aims to know the strategy of responding to arguing in the file's subtitle titled Becoming Jane, to find out the translation techniques used by the translator, and to assess the translation quality in terms of the accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The research method is descriptive qualitative method with "Becoming Jane" movie and its subtitles as the data. Data were collected from document analysis and focus group discussions with the score of the accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The results indicate that the character used a strategy of agreeing, persisting, and complying. While six methods of translation were found, namely literal, modulation, established equivalence, borrowing, and adaptation. The quality of the translation of the strategy of responding to speech acts has been categorized as less accurate, less acceptable, and moderate in terms of readability

This study aims to assess the translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability of words that contain spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors that represent the condition of Autism character in Flowers for Algernon novel by Daniel Keyes using an instrument from Nababan, Nuraeni, and Sumardiono (2012). This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Data collection is done through document analysis, questionnaire, and FGD. From 309 data found in the study, 303 data (98.05%) were accurately translated and 6 data (1.94%) were translated inaccurately. In terms of acceptability, 177 data (57.28%) were acceptable, 126 data (40.77%) were less acceptable and 6 data (1.94%) were unacceptable. While for readability aspect, 285 data (92,23%) were stated to have high readability, 18 data (5.82%) had medium readability and 6 data (1.94%) had low readability. The average score is 2.81. This score indicates the translation has a good quality of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.Keywords: Translation Quality, Spelling Error, Punctuation Error, Grammatical Error

This research explain the techniques and quality assessment of the translation of washfi phrases in the novel Zeina's translation by Nawal El Saadawi. This research is a part of translation criticism by using the descriptive analysis method. This research uses a qualitative approach in analyzing translation techniques by applying Newmark's theory of translation techniques. In addition, a quantitative approach is also used in assessing the quality of translation by applying the theory of translation quality assessment by Nababan. The results of this research indicate that there are 348 data on washfi phrases in the novel Zeina and 40 data on washfi phrases in this study. The techniques used in translation are 10 of 16 Newmark translation techniques. The ten techniques are literal translation technique, transference, reduction, expansion, transposition, synonymy, modulation, naturalization, paraphrasing, and recognized translation technique. As for the assessment of translation quality, the most acceptable translation qualities were literal translation techniques and synonymy techniques (77%). Meanwhile, the lowest acceptance quality was naturalization technique, which was 62%. Then, the quality of easy / high readability is in the paraphrasing technique, which is 76%. While the quality of the lowest readability is naturalization technique, which is 46%.

<p>This research is aimed to: (1) identify the kinds of euphemism sexual organ and sexual activity in  Fifty Shades of Grey novel, (2) identify the translation techniques used by the translator in translating sexual organ and sexual activity with euphemism, (3) describe the impact  of translation technique which applied by the translator toward translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability.</p><p>This research is a descriptive-qualitative research. Sources of data are Fifty Shades of Grey novel and also informans who assess the quality of the translation. Data were collected by using document analysis, questionnaires, and focus group discussion (FGD). Data were analyzed by using Spradley’s ethnography method.</p><p>The result of this research shows that there are 10 kinds of euphemism in sexual organ and sexual activity in Fifty Shades of Grey novel . The most dominating euphemism sexual organ of this data is general for specific with the percentation as many as 47.14%, while in sexual activity, the most dominating euphemism is hyperbole with percentation 29.37%. In this research there are thirteen techniques which used by the translator to translate sexual organ and sexual activity with euphemism, the technique which dominates is established equivalent with the percentation 47.43%. For the translation quality, 117 data (59,7%) were accurately translated, 66 data (33,7%) were less accurately translated 13 data (6,6%)were not accurately translated and there were 112 data (57,1%) identified as acceptable translation,  74 data (37,8%) are less acceptable translation, and 10 data (5,1%) are not acceptable translation.</p><p>The conclusion of this research shows that lots of euphemisms were found in <em>Fifty Shades of Grey </em>novel and some of translation techniques have negative impact towards the translation quality of <em>Fifty Shades of Grey </em>novel. This research only uses euphemism sexual organ and sexual activity in <em>Fifty Shades of Grey </em>novel. This research aimed to find the translation techniques used to translate the imperative sentences and the impact to the translation quality which is found in the dialogues of novel The Lost World. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by analyzing, questioning and interviewing to the raters. The analysis was started by finding and classifying the imperative sentences based on the theory of Greenbaum and Quirk (1990). Then, analyzing the translation techniques based on the theory of Molina and Albir (2002) and analyzing the translation quality based on Nababan (2012). The researcher found 63 data of imperative sentences in novel The Lost World. There are 45 data (71,4%) imperative sentences without subject, 4 data (6,35%) of imperative sentences with subject, 2 data (3,07%) of imperative sentences with let and 12 data (19,04%) of negative imperative. The researcher also found 12 translation techniques, they are amplification 8 data (8,42%), borrowing 3 data (3,15%), compensation 5 data (5,26%), established equivalent 15 data (15,78%), linguistics amplification 2 data (2,10%), linguistics compression 7 data (7,36%), literal translation 39 data (41,05%), modulation 2 data (2,10%), particularization, 1 datum (1,05%), reduction 7 data (7,36%), transposition 2 data (2,10%), variation 4 data (4,21%) with total data 95. The result of translation quality of imperative sentences found in the dialogues of novel The Lost World is qualified or well translated with final score of translation quality is 2,83. With the 2,78 for accuracy aspect, 2,85 for the acceptability aspect and 2,91 for the readability aspect.

The Impact

The objectives of this study were to know the translation techniques and the assessment translation quality of Marvel comic series entitled Civil War: Whose Side Are You? (Part 1 and 2) in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This was a descriptive qualitative research and focusing on a single case as well as holistic research involving documents, i.e: the original and the translation books as the objective data and informants who gave assesment on the quality of the translation. The techniques of collecting data were document analysis, questionnaire distribution, and focus grup discussion. Total sampling was applied in this research. The research findings show that there were 12 types of translation techniques applied by the translator, namely established equivalent, borrowing, variation, modulation, explication, discursive creation, literal translation, reduction, transposition, addition, adaptation, and implication. The impact of the application of those techniques toward the translation quality was good enough. The scores indicate that the translation has good quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. It also shows that background of the translators influenced the techniques chosen.
