--- Students’ spreadsheet knowledge - differences between perceived and real knowledge Teaching Computer Science in higher education is imperative, even though today’s students can be considered to be part of generation Z where technology is an es¬sential part of everyday life. The primary objective of the authors was to examine the perceived and actual knowledge of spreadsheet applications of students entering higher education. A questionnaire and a practical test have therefore been com¬posed. In the questionnaire, students were asked to provide information concerning their previous IT studies and rate their knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database management. During the practical, students were asked to solve an Excel exercise taken from a secondary school Computer Science final exam at stan¬dard level. In respect to the results of the practical test there were differences between the perceived and actual knowledge of students’ spreadsheet applications. In respect to the actual results, we found that half of the students’ performance was below 20 per cent, and overall, nearly 85 per cent of them had completed the test with scores under 40 per cent. Our analysis also demonstrated that students that had graduated in Information Technology achieved significantly better results.

Teaching Computer Science in higher education is imperative, even though today’s students have been born into a world where technology is an essential part of everyday life. To efficiently master modern, business, technical and scientific knowledge and to proficiently produce quality results in a work environment it is crucial to have high level IT knowledge. In business, Excel is the lingua franca and so knowing how to aptly use spreadsheets is a must for our students. The primary objective of the authors was to examine the perceived and actual knowledge of spreadsheet applications of students entering higher education. Accordingly, a questionnaire and a practical assignment have been developed. In the questionnaire, students were asked to provide information concerning their previous IT studies and rate their knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database management. During the practical, students were asked to solve an Excel exercise taken from a high school Computer Science final exam at standard level. Out of the 666 registered students on our electronic education system (Neptun) at the beginning of the year, 557 took part in this survey, and following data cleansing and processing, 513 were considered in the results. Looking at the results of the practical, the most significant proportion of students, 142 of them have performed between 0-10%. A total of 260 students have achieved less than 20% performance and 434 people, which is nearly 85% of students have accomplished less than 40%. Compared to the results from the self-evaluation questionnaire it is very poignant that the actual scores differ quite significantly (in both directions) from the perceived knowledge of the students. In 2018 the IOI will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. Over these three decades, not only the world secondary school Olympiads in informatics community have been formed, which covers more than 80 countries from all continents, but a formation of an united methodological space of the school Informatics started also. This space allows many countries today to develop school computer science education, using the experience of other countries, materials from the IOI conference journal, sites of computer science contests, and other Internet resources. This article describes a model for organizing an international training event for juniors – International School in Informatics “Junior” – ISIJ.

At present, comprehensive research on the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies is of particular relevance. The article is devoted to the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of education. The perspective directions of using artificial intelligence in the sphere of higher and general education are considered and analyzed. The article actualizes the problem of implementing artificial intelligence technologies in teaching students and schoolchildren. The purpose of the article is to reveal the specifics of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the field of education. The study is theoretical in nature and includes an analysis of the possibilities of using artificial intelligence technologies at different levels of education. The program of the discipline “Artificial Intelligence Technologies”, developed in the areas of Teacher education training at the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, is presented. The possibilities of studying artificial intelligence technologies using the Python language in a school computer science course are considered, which will allow you to move to a new level of learning programming both in schools and in higher education.

Computers and information technology has become an essential part of living in current era. Developments in the field of computer science (CS) have influenced many aspects of human life including education. In order to make students skillful in this filed a subject of computer science is offered at secondary school level. Major purpose of introducing CS at secondary level was assumption that students of this age are more motivated to learn new technologies. The second reason was high dropout rate, where almost half of them enter in job market, keeping in view this trend it was necessary to develop technology literate workforce. Now as the technology has flooded in and new generation is exposed to it from birth so it is necessary to know perceptions about computer science curriculum. Major purpose of this research was to explore the perception of secondary school computer science curriculum. Population of the study includes the entire student enrolled at secondary school level in the subject of computer science curriculum their teachers and principals. The sample of the study was selected through convenient sampling and forty students (20=male, 20=female) took part in focus group discussion. Eight teachers and four principals were also part of the study. A focus group discussion guide was prepared to conduct discussion with students, while interview schedules were used to take data from teachers and principals. Scores of students in the subject of computer science were also taken from students and counter checked from the school administration to examine effectiveness of course. The results showed that students and teachers are not quite satisfied with current curriculum. On the other hand scores of the subject were not very high showing and loophole in effectiveness of the computer science curriculum. On the basis of results it is suggested that measures should be taken to not only improve curriculum but also for provision of physical facilities required to teach computer sciences.

The article raises the problem of classification of the concepts of computer science and informatics studied at secondary school. The efficiency of creation of techniques of training of pupils in these concepts depends on its solution. The author proposes to consider classifications of the concepts of school informatics from four positions: on the cross-subject basis, the content lines of the educational subject "Informatics", the logical and structural interrelations and interactions of the studied concepts, the etymology of foreign-language and translated words in the definition of the concepts of informatics. As a result of the first classification general and special concepts are allocated; the second classification — inter-content and intra-content concepts; the third classification — stable (steady), expanding, key and auxiliary concepts; the fourth classification — concepts-nouns, conceptsverbs, concepts-adjectives and concepts — combinations of parts of speech.
