Chlorides of copper(II) and nickel(ll) react with 1-benzoyl-2-methylbenzimidazole or 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-methylbenzimidazole to give complexes of the type [M(L)nCln(H20)?Cln (M = Cu or Ni; L = (1-benzoyl-2-methylbenzimidazole or 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-methylbenzimidazole; n=O, 1 or 2). The complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity magnetic susceptibility measurements and IR spectra. These studies suggest that all the complexes possess an octahedral stereochemistry. The antibacterial activity of (1-benzoyl-2-methylbenzimidazole or 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-methylbenzimidazole and their complexes was evaluated against Escherichia coli and Bacillus sp.

A new ligand 2,3-dihydrobenzo [d] thiazole-2-carboxylic acid (L) has been prepared from the reaction of ortho amino phenyl thiol with dichloroacetic acid in mole ratio (1:1). It has been characterized by elemental analysis (C.H.N.), IR, UV- Vis.spectraand 1H, 13C-NMR. A new series complexes of the bivalent ions (Co, Ni, Cu, Pd, Cd, Hg and Pb) and the trivalent (Cr) have been prepared and characterized too. The structural has been established by elemental analysis (C.H.N.), IR, UV-Vis. spectra, molar conductivity, atomic absorption and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The synthesized complexes were prepared in (1:2) ratio correspond to (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II) complexes while in case Cr(III) complex is (1:1) ratio (M:L). ?, Kf for (Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II)) were estimated too. The complexes showed characteristics octahedral geometry with the (O,N) ligand coordinated in bidentate mode except with Pd showed square planer. The study of biological activity of ligand (L) and its complexes showed various activities toward Staphylococcus aureusand E. coli.

The preparation and properties of some complexes of cobalt(II), zinc(II) and copper(II) with several newly synthesized benzimidazole derivatives (L) are reported. The complexes, of the general formula [MCl2L2] (M=Co(II), Zn(II)) and [CuCl2L(H2O]), have a tetrahedral structure. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR and absorption electronic spectra. The antibacterial activitiy of the benzimidazoles and their complexes was evaluated against Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora and Erwinia amylovora. The complexes were found to be more toxic than the ligands.

Many complexes of 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl phenyl methanone with Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV/visible spectra, elemental analysis, room temperature magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity. Cd(II) complex was expected to have tetrahedral structure while all the other complexes were expected to have an octahedral structure.

A new material of copper(II) complex (complex 1) with taurine Schiff base has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, ESI-MS and IR spectra. 1 was tested against HepG2 cell lines with IC50 values of 12.89 μM. With the concentrations of 1 increasing, the population of apoptosis was 1.28% for 0 μM, 24.4% for 10 μM and 47.9% for 20μM, and the population of G2 phase was 19.2% for 0 μM, 34.4% for 10 μM and 42.9% for 20μM, respectively. 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity against HepG2 cell lines.

Two Schiff bases of chitosan (CTS) were synthesized from 4-methoxylbenzylaldehyde (CH3O-CTS) and 4-methylbenzylaldehyde(CH3-CTS). The Schiff bases were characterized by FTIR, DSC-TGA, solid13C CP-Mas NMR, and elemental analysis. Antibacterial activities of the Schiff bases against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were measured by the optical density method. The antibacterial activity of the Schiff bases is better than that of the original CTS. The IC50of CH3O-CTS and CH3-CTS againstEscherichia coliis respectively 40.3 ppm and 43 ppm, which being 38.5 ppm and 39.5 ppm against Staphylococcus aureus, lower than IC50of chitosan, being 59.5 ppm and 52 ppm againstEscherichia coliand Staphylococcus aureus, respectively.

The stepwise stability constants of VO(II), Mn(II), Cu(II), Ni (II), Co(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), and UO2(II) metal ions with 2-(2-acetylphenylhydrazone)-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexane dione (2-APHDm), 3-(2-acetylphenylhydrazone)pentane-2,4-dione (2-APHA), 2-(2-acetylphenylhydrazone)-1-phenyl-1,3-butane dione (2-APHB), 2-(2-acetylphenylhydrazone)-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propane dione (2-APHDB), and 3-(2-acetylphenylhydrazone)-1,1,1-trifluoropentane-2,4-dione (2-APHTA) were determined at 30 °C by pH titrations in 75% (v/v) dioxane–water solvent. In addition, metal complexes of three related β-diketones, 2-APHA, 2-APHB, and 2-APHDB have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, uv–visible, ir spectra, and conductance in DMF and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The structure of the complexes have been proposed. Keywords: transition metal complexes of hydrazone-β-diketone ligands.

Metal complex of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with benzoic acid have been prepared and characterized by physiochemical methods. On the basis of electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurement in conjunction with infrared spectra, six coordinated octahedral structure have been proposed to all the complexes. The benzoic acid and their complexes have been tested for their antibacterial activity against the bacteriaE. coli,Bacillus subtilis,Pseudomonas aeruginosaandStaphylococcus aureus. Further, the non electrolytic nature of all the synthesized complexes was identified from conductivity measurements.
