In the winter time in Serbia, maize silage is the main ruminant feed. Therefore, managing maize silage is an important contributor to maintain the silage quality for livestock feed. In the study were evaluated the chemical composition, energetic and fermentation characteristics in whole-crop maize silage inoculated with different bacterial inoculants under field conditions in the commercial dairy farm, during the 2015. Three treatments were tested: negative control (untreated silage), a positive control (competitor inoculant) and Silko treatment (contains a mixture of 4 strains of Lactobacillus plantarum (LP1, LP2, LP3 and LP4). Maize is ensiled in the milk-wax grain maturity. After 90 days of ensiling, the maize silages were analyzed. The application of bacterial inoculants improved the chemical composition and energetic characteristics of silage. The inoculant Silko was more effective at improving the fermentation characteristics than competitor inoculant. Ash, cellulose, soluble N/TN, NH3-N/TN, ADF, NDF, acetic acid and pH were significantly lower in Silko treatment than positive control. There were no differences in crude fat, crude protein, ME, NEL, lactic acid and butyric acid between the treated silages. Generally, the new product bacterial inoculant Silko proved in field trials its ability to support the ensiling process in maize. The main action of the bacterial inoculant Silko is performed in two ways: the reduced degradation of protein in silage and the improvement of the aerobic stability due to the lower pH, higher content of acetic acid than negative control.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the in vitro ionic degradation and slot base corrosion of metallic brackets subjected to brushing with dentifrices, through analysis of chemical composition by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and qualitative analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). METHODS: Thirty eight brackets were selected and randomly divided into four experimental groups (n = 7). Two groups (n = 5) worked as positive and negative controls. Simulated orthodontic braces were assembled using 0.019 x 0.025-in stainless steel wires and elastomeric rings. The groups were divided according to surface treatment: G1 (Máxima Proteção Anticáries®); G2 (Total 12®); G3 (Sensitive®); G4 (Branqueador®); Positive control (artificial saliva) and Negative control (no treatment). Twenty eight brushing cycles were performed and evaluations were made before (T0) and after (T1) experiment. RESULTS: The Wilcoxon test showed no difference in ionic concentrations of titanium (Ti), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni) between groups. G2 presented significant reduction (p < 0.05) in the concentration of aluminium ion (Al). Groups G3 and G4 presented significant increase (p < 0.05) in the concentration of aluminium ion. The SEM analysis showed increased characteristics indicative of corrosion on groups G2, G3 and G4. CONCLUSION: The EDS analysis revealed that control groups and G1 did not suffer alterations on the chemical composition. G2 presented degradation in the amount of Al ion. G3 and G4 suffered increase in the concentration of Al. The immersion in artificial saliva and the dentifrice Máxima Proteção Anticáries® did not alter the surface polishing. The dentifrices Total 12®, Sensitive® and Branqueador® altered the surface polishing.

Alfalfa silage is a useful source of protein for feeding ruminants. Therefore, managing alfalfa silage in livestock production systems is an important issue in order to maintain the silage quality and achieve maximum profitable production of milk and meat. The aim of this investigation was to estimate the effects of bacterial inoculant Silko, containing Lactobacillus plantarum (strains: LP1, LP2, LP3 and LP4) on chemical composition, energetic characteristics and fermentation alfalfa silage under field conditions in the commercial dairy farm, during the 2016. The first-cut alfalfa in the second year has been conserved in silage form. The silage mass was subdivided into two equal parts (control (silage without inoculant) and silages treated with bacterial inoculant Silko) and ensiled in trench silo. After 60 days of ensiling, the silages were analysed. Dry matter, ash, crude protein, lactic acid, acetic acid, total digestible nutrients value and relative feed value were significantly higher in silage treated with bacterial inoculant Silko compared to control. Contrary, alfalfa silage treated with a bacterial inoculant Silko had lower values of cellulose, acid detergent fibre, neutral detergent fibre, nonnitro extractive matter, pH, butyric acid, soluble nitrogen/total nitrogen and NH3- N/total nitrogen than untreated silage. Results showed that bacterial inoculant Silko increases silage quality compared to control so that research should be directed toward the use of such prepared silage in ruminant diets and its impact on milk and meat production on farms.

In the experiment, the effect of additives supplementation on the fermentation quality of corn silage was examined, compared with the untreated control (K). The aditive „A“ contained bacterial component of (Propionibactrium acidipropionici – MA126/4U 3*1010 and Lactobacillus plantarum – MA18/5U). The effective substances of bacterial inoculants „B“, selected were bacterial strains of (Lactobacillus casei ssp. rhamnosus LC – 705 DSM 7061 4*1011, Propionibacterium freudenreichii spp. shermanii JS DSM 6067 2-4*1011). There were used as effective substances of bacterial inoculants „C“ lactic bacteria and enzyme (Lactobacillus plantarum CCM 3769 1.67*1010, Lactococcus lactis CCM 4754 1.67*1010, Enterococcus faecium CCM 6226 1.67*1010, Pediococcus pentosaceus CCM 3770 1,67*1010, cellulase, hemicellulase, sodium benzoate). They were applied in the dose of prescript by producer. At conservations with all aditivum were statistically significant (P < 0.01) increase of lactic acid formation from 55.31±9.72 g/kg DM of control silage to 59.60±10.84 g/kg DM aditivum „A“, 59.36±10.04 g/ kg DM aditivum „B“ rather to 60.74±9.90 g/kg DM aditivum „C“. Aditives „A“ and „B“ were statistically significant (P < 0.01) increase propoinic acid and total fermentation acid content in silages occured. The fermentation characteristics in the microbial aditivum silages by us were more favourable. The date of fermentation was statistically significant (P < 0.01) increase the contents of acetic acid from 45.49±2.83 g/kg DM of 4st day to 63.07±4.25 g/kg DM of 32ndday rather to 67.70±2.94 g/kg DM of 64st day. There were statistically significant (P < 0.01) increase contents of acetic acid and total acid content. The date of fermentation was statistically significant (P < 0.01) degressive of pH.

ObjectivesThe objective of the current study was to determine the efficacy of dipping pork trimmings in acetic acid on Salmonella reduction.Materials and MethodsPork loins were purchased from a commercial purveyor and trimmed of external fat and connective tissues, leaving only the longissimus muscle, which was further cut into 2.5 cm (W) × 2.5 cm (L) × 1.3 cm (H) cubes. Pork cubes were randomly assigned to a negative control (no inoculation, no dipping; NEG), a positive control (inoculation, no dipping; POS), acetic acid dipping at 21°C (ACC) and acetic acid dipping at 50°C (ACH) with a 15-, 45-, or 75-s dipping duration (n = 10 per treatment × time combination). Two inoculation levels, 108 Colony Forming Unit (CFU)/cube of bioluminescent gene-modified (Lux) or 105 CFU/cube of nalidixic acid-resistant Salmonella enteritica serovar Typhimurium, were inoculated onto pork cubes to determine the antibacterial effects of each treatment condition by in vivo bioluminescence imaging system (IVIS) or direct CFU measurement on XLD agar, respectively. In Experiment 1, the cubes were dipped for 15 s to measure the reduction effects by employing both IVIS and CFU. In Experiment 2, cubes were dipped with three dipping durations and the CFU were calculated. The common logarithm of Lux and CFU were calculated and analyzed by the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS v9.4 (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC). Actual probability values were reported.ResultsIn Experiment 1, at 108 inoculation level, ACC and ACH reduced the growth of Salmonella by 1.8 and 1.6 log, respectively (P < 0.001) without treatment difference (P = 0.207). However, at 105 inoculation level, ACC and ACH reduced Salmonella by 0.2 and 0.3 log, respectively (P ≤ 0.026). In Experiment 2, at 105 inoculation level with three dipping durations, the ACH treatment reduced Salmonella by 0.9 log more than the ACC treatment (P < 0.001). The 75-s dipping duration was the most effective, providing a reduction of 0.7-log more than the 15-s duration (P = 0.001). No 2-way treatment × time interaction was observed (P = 0.104).ConclusionThe present study suggests that the pork trimmings be dipped into 3% acetic acid solution at 50°C for at least 75 s to ensure the safety of further processed pork products.

Lactobacillus plantarum (LAB) is a group of lactic acid bacteria that can produce exopolysaccharide (EPS). The objective of this study was to determine the effect of adding selenium chloride oxide (SeOCl2) to the increased immunomodulatory potential of EPS L. plantarum Y-1.2. The experiment was conducted in vivo using macrophage cells of peritoneal fluid of mice induced by Staphylococcus aureus. EPS was obtained by precipitation at 4 °C. Identification test using HPLC showed that crude EPS of L. plantarum Y-1.2 containing glucose monomers for value retention times 4.198 and 4.204, crude EPS approaches the retention time of glucose BP 4.234. Testing of immuno-modulatory divided into six treatment groups. Group 1-3 as the control group, a positive control (Stimuno), negative control (crude EPS 50 mg/kg BW in mice), normal control (distilled water). Group 4-6 as the test group was given crude EPS 50 mg/kg BW in mice and selenium oxide chloride doses of 0.13 µg; 0.26 µg; 0.52 µg. The test results showed a dosage of 0.52 µg selenium chloride oxide to crude EPS of 50 mg/kg BW in mice could increase the activity and phagocytic capacity amounted to 28.06% and 28.39%

Indonesia has been known for its traditional medicine and one of the plants used for tradisional medicine is Hibiscussabdariffa L. The roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) calyx has antipyretic effect by blocking prostaglandin synthesis. Thepurpose of this study was to find out the existences of analgesic effect of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) calyx ethanolextract. This experimental research used a post test only design that was conducted on 25 male mices weighting 20-35 g. The mices were divided into 5 treatment groups and given the CMC-Na 0,5% (negative control), asetosal 65 mg/kgBB (positive control) and groups of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) calyx ethanol extract dose of 200 mg/kgBB,400 mg/kgBB and 800 mg/kgBB. Pain stimulus was given chemically by using 1% acetic acid that injectedintraperitoneally 30 minutes after sample was given the extract, the response of the mices will be writhing. It calledpositive response if percentage potency of analgesic e” 50%. The result of this research showed that all dosage ofroselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) calyx ethanol extract had an analgesic effect.

Mange is a common disease of rabbits globally, and knowledge of efficacy of drugs used in its treatment is critical for effective disease control. The current study evaluated the efficacy of three commonly used therapeutic agents in Kenya against mange. In a controlled laboratory trial, 20 adult rabbits were recruited for the study (16 of which were infested with mange, while 4 were mange-free). The 16 mange-infested rabbits were randomly allocated into 4 treatment groups each consisting of 4 rabbits, while 4 mange-free rabbits formed the negative control group. Treatments were administered as follows: group 1 (G1) received two ivermectin injections at an interval of 14 days, group 2 (G2) was treated with a combination of carbaryl and liquid paraffin applied every other day up to the end of the experiment, group 3 (G3) was treated with liquid paraffin droplets applied daily until the lesion cleared, while group 4 (G4, infected-untreated) received distilled water applied topically on their ears and group 5 (G5, uninfected-untreated negative control) was not treated with any preparation. The lesions were scored and sampled daily to check the viability of the mites. A field efficacy trial of the test compounds was performed using 105 mange-infested rabbits. The results revealed that all the test agents: ivermectin, liquid paraffin, carbaryl-water, and carbaryl-liquid paraffin combination were effective against mange, recording the lesion score of zero for psoroptic mange by day 21 in the laboratory and field trials. Lesion scores in the treated groups were significantly reduced (p<0.05) at the termination of study compared with those of the positive control group in the laboratory trial. A point-biserial correlation revealed a strong association (rpb = 0.79, p<0.05) between the presence of viable mites and degree of psoroptic lesions in the field trial.

There are no anticoccidial drugs labelled for rabbits in Kenya and those available are used as extra labels from poultry. The drugs are used in rabbits with limited knowledge of their efficacy and safety. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of sulphachloropyrazine, amprolium hydrochloride, and trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole relative to diclazuril when used curatively against experimental and natural rabbit coccidiosis. In a controlled laboratory trial, sixty (60) rabbits were randomly allocated to six treatment groups, namely, 1A, 2B, 3C, 4D, 5E, and 6F, each with 10 rabbits. Groups 2B, 3C, 4D, 5E, and 6F were experimentally infected with mixed Eimeria species while group 1A served as uninfected-untreated (negative) control group. Four of the infected groups were treated with sulphachloropyrazine (5E), amprolium hydrochloride (2B), trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole (6F), and diclazuril (4D) using dosages recommended by manufacturers. Group 3C served as infected-untreated (positive) control. A field efficacy trial in naturally infected rabbits was then undertaken. The results revealed that sulphachloropyrazine and diclazuril were effective against rabbit clinical coccidiosis by significantly reducing oocyst counts from 149.00±110.39 x 104 to 3.31±0.86 x 104 Eimeria spp. oocysts per gram of feces (opg) and 59.70±12.35 x 104 to 0.0±0.0 x 104 opg, respectively, in the laboratory trial. Similarly, sulphachloropyrazine and diclazuril recorded reduced oocyst counts in the field trial from 280.33±44.67 x 103 to 0.44±0.14 x 103 opg and 473.44±176.01 x 103 to 0.0±0.0 x 103 opg, respectively. Still, sulphachloropyrazine and diclazuril showed superior efficacy by registering lesion scores and fecal scores close to those of uninfected untreated control group. Trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole recorded a satisfactory efficacy in the field trial by recording reduced oocyst counts from 266.78±37.03 x 103 to 0.75±0.11 x 103 opg but was not efficacious in the laboratory trial. Amprolium hydrochloride was not efficacious against clinical coccidiosis in both the experimental and field trials.

Objective: The effects of rosemary (10 mg/kg B.W) and husk (5 mg/kg B.W) on hemogram, GSH , CAT , NO, IL-1β and IL-10 of rats (40 albino rats) were investigated Design:Experimental study Animals: 40 albino rats Procedures: The 1st group was served as negative control, while the remaening groups (2nd, 3rd and 4th) were given acetic acid (4%) to induce ulcerative colitis (UC). Then the 2nd group was used as positive control, the 3rd group was orally given rosemary daily for 7 days, while the 4th group was orally administerated husk daily for 7 days. Blood and serum samples were collected from all groups at one week post dosing Results: The obtained results revealed that, both the tested plants induced a significant increase in RBCs, Hb, PCV% and lymphocyte counts and a significant decrease in WBC, neutrophil, monocyte and blood platelets of treated rats compared with the positive control group. Conclusion and clinical relevance: In addition rosemary and husk evoked a significant increase in GSH, CAT and IL-10 and a significant decrease in NO and IL-1β in serum of treated rats in comparions with the positive control group.
