AbstractMimicking natural structures allows the exploitation of proven design concepts for advanced material solutions. Here, our inspiration comes from the anisotropic closed cell structure of wood. The bubbles in our fiber reinforced foam are elongated using temperature dependent viscosity of methylcellulose and constricted drying. The oriented structures lead to high yield stress in the primary direction; 64 times larger than compared to the cross direction. The closed cells of the foam also result in excellent thermal insulation. The proposed novel foam manufacturing process is trivial to up-scale from the laboratory trial scale towards production volumes on industrial scales.

Purpose Smartphone apps for tinnitus relief are now emerging; however, research supporting their use and effectiveness is lacking. Research has shown that Tinnitus Therapy sounds intended for individuals with acoustic hearing provide relief to some patients using cochlear implants (CIs) with tinnitus. Here, we evaluated the use and acceptability of a smartphone app to help CI patients with tinnitus. Method Participants completed a laboratory trial ( n = 19) and an at-home trial ( n = 14) using the ReSound Tinnitus Relief app to evaluate its acceptability and effectiveness in reducing their tinnitus. During the laboratory trial, participants selected a sound that was most acceptable in managing their tinnitus (termed chosen sound ). Word recognition scores in quiet were obtained before and after sound therapy. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups for the at-home trial, that is, AB or BA, using (A) the chosen sound for 2 weeks and (B) the study sound (i.e., broadband noise at hearing threshold) for another 2 weeks. Ratings were collected weekly to determine acceptability and effectiveness of the app in reducing tinnitus loudness and annoyance. Results Results indicated that some, but not all, participants found their chosen sound to be acceptable and/or effective in reducing their tinnitus. A majority of the participants rated the chosen sound or the study sound to be acceptable in reducing their tinnitus. Word recognition scores for most participants were not adversely affected using the chosen sound; however, a significant decrease was observed for three participants. All 14 participants had a positive experience with the app during the at-home trial on tests of sound therapy acceptability, effectiveness, and word recognition. Conclusions Sound therapy using a smartphone app can be effective for many tinnitus patients using CIs. Audiologists should recommend a sound and a level for tinnitus masking that do not interfere with speech perception.

Abstract Background In this international Multi Laboratory Trial (MLT) the precision data and the accuracy of the ISO/CD 22184 IDF/WD 244 analytical method for the quantification of 6 different mono- and disaccharides (galactose, glucose, fructose, sucrose, lactose and maltose) in milk and milk products with high performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) are established. Objective Thirteen different laboratories participated (located in New Zealand, United States, Europe). The study was divided into two parts. Firstly, the learning/familiarization part in which the participants got experienced with the method. After successfully completing this part, the participants were allowed to continue with the second part of this trial: the analyses of the seven blind MLT duplicate samples. Method The selected seven MLT samples comprise five MUVA reference dairy samples, one NIST certified infant formula and one industrial sample. In the Tables S-1 to S-6 the results of this MLT study have been summarized per sugar. There is a very good agreement between the MUVA and NIST certified sugar contents in the MLT samples and the in the MLT established sugar contents in those MUVA and NIST samples. Results This demonstrates that the accuracy of the newly developed HPAEC-PAD method is very good. Conclusions Certificates of analysis were available for both the MUVA samples and the NIST sample. There is a very good agreement between the by MUVA and NIS certified sugar contents in the MLT samples and the corresponding in the MLT established sugar contents. This demonstrates that the accuracy of the HPAEC-PAD method is very good. In the IDF/ISO Analytical Week in June 2019 in Prague the report on the MLT study were discussed and adopted.

<p><strong>Response of four new coconut hybrids to bud rot and premature nutfull diseases</strong></p><p>The objective of Ihe experiment was to find out Ihe resistance of four new coconut hybrids GRA x DMT. GKB x DMT, GKN x DTE. GKB x DTE against bud rol and premature nutfall diseases due lo Phytophthora palmivora. The field observation on bud rot was conducted in coconut trial plots at Kima Atas experimental garden. Minahasa District, North Sulawesi Province for 4 years (1995-1998). The field trial was arranged in a randomized block design with 6 treatments (4 coconut hybrids. 2 control) and 60 replicates The experiment under laboratory condilion was conducted to know the artificial infection development of P palmivora on coconut nut The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments (4 coconut hybrids, 2 control) and 10 replicates. The result of the field observation showed that percentage of coconut infection by bud rot per cultivar were PB-121 (23.33%) as the highest and then followed by GKN x DTE (8.33%), KHINA-1 (5.0%) and GKB x DMT (3.33%) while cultivars of GKB x DTE and GRA x DMT unlil 4 years observation were not infected by bud rot In laboratory trial, Ihe growth rate of pathogen was very high on KHINA-1 (12.62 mm2/day). The growth rate of pathogen in GKB x DIE and GRA x DMT were slowest (8 9 mm'/day) while those in PB- 121, GKN x Dll and GKB x DMT were moderate (9-10.2 mm2/day).</p>

Abstract The determination of protein in urine is important in clinical examination along with other parameters in urine. The presence of protein in urine can be interpreted that there is a disorder in kidney. Acid and heat coagulations method is still widely used in many areas to determine protein in urine. In this method, the characteristic of protein that will precipitate in the presence of acid or if exposed to heat is deployed to gain information about the amount of protein. The greater amount of protein, the more prominence is the coagulation. Urine pH also varies according to the condition, classic acidosis will give an acidic urine and the presence of ammonium producing bacteria can cause basic urine. In this research acetic acid method with 6% of CH3COOH and pH value of 2,9 and buffer acetic with pH 4,5 are used to determine the certain amount of protein (+3 value, corresponds with 2-4 mg/dL protein in urine) in varied pH values of urine samples. To compare the results, first in control urine with pH 6,8 the results of both methods is compared and shows no significant different, then the Kruskall-Wallis test is used to compare the results in other pH values to control and the test is shown also there are no significant difference. This shows that either acetic acid at pH 2,9 or acetic buffer at pH 4,5 can be used to determine protein amount in urine.
