The research was performed on Holstein-Friesian and Black and White bull dams reared on five farms of Agricultural Corporation of Belgrade - PKB. The study included 575 lactations of cows selected as bull dams and their progeny calved in the period from 2007 - 2014 and represent progeny of 24 bulls. The following dairy traits were analysed in a standard lactation (305 days): milk yield (kg) - MY, milk fat content (%) - % MF, milk fat yield (kg) - MFY, protein content (%) - % PC and protein yield (kg) - PY. Holstein-Friesian bull dams and their progeny, in standard lactation, produced on average 9239.84 ? 1607.64 kg of milk, with a milk fat content of 3.44 ? 0.20 and protein content of 3.21 ? 0.12. The impact of bull - sire, year of birth, lactation order, farm, year and calving season was present at different levels of statistical significance on yield traits, while the genetic group had no influence on any of the milk traits. Bull - sire, year of birth, lactation order and calving season did not influence the variability of milk fat and protein content. Heritability of observed milk traits was medium to low. The content of milk fat and protein had the lowest values of heritability, 0.014, and 0.024, respectively. The heritability of milk yield, milk fat yield and protein yield was 0.293, 0.319 and 0.273, respectively.

Abstract. Title of the paper: Influence of systematic environmental effects on milk performance traits in German Improved Fawn The objectives of this study were to analyse the influence of fixed effects on milk traits of German Improved Fawn. The analysis was based on 27,778 test day records of 1,848 German Improved Fawn with 3,574 lactation records. The milk records were sampled between 1988 and 2002 from 229 flocks in Lower Saxony, Saxony and Baden-Wuerttemberg. The average daily milk yield was 2.87 ± 1.20 kg with a fat content of 3.08 ± 0.54% and a protein content of 3.38 ± 0.95%. Somatic cell count (SCC) was transformed into somatic cell score (SCS). Mean SCS was 5.49 ± 1.93. The average lactation length was 234.1 ± 76.4 days. The analysis of variance showed a significant influence of lactation number, stage of lactation, year of lambing and month of lambing on all analysed milk production traits. Milk yield was highest in the fourth lactation number and fat as well as protein content in the 7th to 13th lactation number. Litter size had a significant influence on milk and fat yield and on fat and protein content. The region significantly influenced protein yield and fat and protein content of German Improved Fawn but had no effect on milk and protein yield and SCS. Animals from Baden-Wuerttemberg reached the highest milk protein content but the lowest milk fat content.

Objective of this study was to analyze the effect of the dairy farm on milk traits of cows in Vojvodina. The research was carried out on small farms with 10 to 20 cows, medium farms with 20 to 50 cows, and large farms with over 50 dairy cows. The study included registered animals of Simmental (SM) and Holstein-Friesian breed (HF; including Red Holstein) in the first lactation for traits of milk yield and yield and content of milk fat. Total of 1323 first lactations were analyzed. The average milk yield (both breeds) in the first lactation of 305 days was 6295 kg of milk with 234,3 kg of milk fat and average milk fat content of 3,74%. Milk performance of cows varied significantly (CV=22,9% and SD=1447,8), as well as milk fat yield (CV=21,6% and SD=50,8). Large farms produced in average 6534 kg of milk, medium farms 6347kg and small farms 4717kg. Size of the farm exhibited significantly high effect on all observed traits, and the tendency was that farms with higher number of animals realize also higher average of production. Farm management and various breeding-zootechnical conditions present on farms had significant effect on milk performance of cows.

This study aims to determine the correlations between the test-day milk yield (TDMY) and the fat and protein content as well as the fat and protein yields in Holstein dairy cows and to investigate the effects of lactation period and sampling season on these parameters. The study material consists of 1.380 records of a total of 151 head of Holstein dairy cows raised on a private farm in Samsun province. In the study, the mean TDMY, fat content, protein content, fat yield and protein yield were recorded as 20.6±5.10 kg, 3.97±0.734%, 3.23±0.276%, 0.81±0.210 kg and 0.66±0.160 kg, respectively. The effects of lactation period and sampling season on the TDMY, fat content, protein content, fat yield and protein yield were found statistically significant (Pis less than 0.01). Statistically significant negative correlations were determined between the TDMY and the fat and protein content, but positive and statistically significant (Pis less than 0.01) correlations between the TDMY and the fat and protein yields. In conclusion, it might be stated that the effects of lactation period and sampling season should also be taken into account to improve milk yield and milk components.

Background: Several single nucleotide polymorphisms had been detected in goats and for the researchers it is important to reveal candidate genes with substantial effects on the traits of economic importance. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between LPL, STAT5 and AGPAT6 gene polymorphisms and milk traits of goats. Methods: We investigated about 204 goats, four different breeds (Czech White Shorthaired, Saanen, Anglo Nubian, Alpine) and two crossbreeds (Saanen and Alpine, Saanen and Anglo Nubian). The milk samples were analysed using spectrophotometers LactoScope 550 and LactoScope FTIR (Delta Instruments, the Netherlands). The somatic cell count (SCC) in milk was determined by flow cytometry method using the Somascope CA-3A4 (Delta Instruments, the Netherlands). Variations of the goat AGPAT6, STAT5, LPL genes were detected by PCR-RFLP method. Result: Analysis of AGPAT6 gene revealed that goats with GC genotype had higher milk yield, fat content and lactose content; goats with CG genotype had higher protein content. STAT5 gene analysis showed that goats with CT genotype had higher milk yield; goats with CC genotype had higher fat content and lactose content; goats with TT genotype had higher protein and urea content and also SCC. According to LPL gene analysis, goats with CC genotype had higher milk yield while goats with GG genotype had higher fat and protein content. The highest milk yield was estimated in Saanen and Alpine crossbreed goats while the highest milk fat and protein content was estimated in Anglo Nubian goats.

The study was conducted in high productive herd of Holstein breed in JV "Agrosvit" Myronivka district, Kyiv region by retrospective analysis of the primary materials of zootechnical and pedigree records. The research involved analysis of data about 78 cows imported from Hungary to the farm in 2000 and 2003 and the first calving was during 2002-2004 and 117 cows imported from Denmark in 2005, the first calving was during 2005-2006. In comparison to the imported cows, contemporaries of local reproduction were selected based on respective years of the first calving (n = 409). The selection of animals and computing performance were conducted by the method of Polupan Yu. (2010). The aim of the research was a comparative study of economic use duration and lifetime performance of the imported Holstein cows. Analysis of milk production during lactation showed high milk yield during the first lactation (7315-7688 kg) in the imported animals at this farm. A slight decrease in yields by 3.4-5.1% (to 6939-7426 kg) was observed to the third lactation This downward trend in milk yield of cows with age does not match the physiological capabilities of animals. No significant difference (P ˃ 0.05) in fat content of milk also was found with its tendency to increase by 0.08-0.22% with age. For the third lactation fat content in milk was 0.13% (P ˃ 0.05) higher for the cows imported from Denmark. Predominance in protein content of milk (P ˃ 0.05) was in the imported cows from Hungary on average values within 3.34-3.42%. This figure declined with age from 3.3% to 3.1% in the cows from Denmark. Significant differences were not revealed in comparing milk productivity of cows imported from Denmark with performance of their contemporaries of native origin. Difference in milk yield did not exceed 6.6%, fat yield – 5.8% and protein yield – 6.8% (P ˃ 0.05). The fat and protein content in the milk of cows in the compared groups was at the same level within 3.1-3.3%. Similar comparison of Holstein cows imported from Hungary and their contemporaries of native origin had slightly different results. The predominance in milk yield during the first lactation was noted for the local cows by 4%, fat content in milk – by 0.04% and protein content – by 0.1%, fat yield – by 5.4% and protein yield – by 7.1 %. Milk yield during the third lactation was significantly higher for imported livestock by 13.5% (1000 kg), fat content – by 0.04% and protein content – by 0.08%, fat yield – by 15%, protein yield – by10% at P ˃ 0,05. The research of duration and efficiency of economic use found slightly higher levels of lifetime measures of the imported cows from Denmark (R ˃ 0.05). In the calculation of milk yield per a day of life, economic use and lactation slight advantage (P ˃ 0.05) also was noted for the imported cows (by 0.6, 2.2 and 1.9 kg). The numbers of lactations and calves obtained from the cows were within 2.4-2.7 and 3.4-3.5 respectively. A similar slight predominance (P ˃ 0,05) of the animals imported from Denmark was for coefficients of economic use (by 6.5%), lactation (by 1.8%) and productive use (3.5%). A slightly different situation was observed in comparing the lifetime measures of the cows imported from Hungary with their contemporaries. In these groups of animals, small and insignificant predominance was in all the studied traits (P ˃ 0.05) recorded for local contemporaries. Lifetime milk yield was 2.641 kg lower, so fat yield was 73 kg less and protein yield – 64 kg less. Lifetime fat and protein content in milk was within 3.69-3.70% and 3.35-3.36% on average, respectively. Milk yield per a day of life, economic use and lactation in the both groups was almost at the same level (9.1-9.7, 16.2-16.7 and 20.2-20.6 kg respectively). On average in the both groups during lifetime of cows 3.5-3.8 calves were received and number of lactations was within 2.9-3.2. Coefficients of economic use, lactation and productive use were 0.5, 2.4 and 6.0% lower respectively in the cattle imported from Hungary as compared to the local contemporaries. Coefficient of variability of lifetime measures averages for the imported cows was to 66.6%. Coefficient of variability of average fat and protein content in milk during lifetime (1.9-2.9%) indicated high consolidation of the traits. High variability of lifetime measures confirms significant opportunities for selection of cows on these traits. Consequently, Holstein cattle imported from Hungary and Denmark showed satisfactory adaptive ability under condition of "Agrosvit" breeding farm that provided high milk yield (7315-7688 kg) during the first lactation with small (by 3.4-5.1%) reduction in yields during the third (to 6939-7426 kg). Fat content in milk was 3.64-3.86% and increased by 0.08-0.22% with age. The protein content in milk fluctuated within 3.30-3.42%. There was no difference in comparing milk productivity of imported Holstein cows and their local contemporaries. The difference in all cases is insignificant. The revealed tendency of higher productive performance is in favour of livestock imported from Denmark. The same traits in cattle from Hungary were slightly lower. Average lifetime measures at the imported animals from Denmark were slightly higher and insignificant (P ˃ 0.05) compared to local contemporaries. And the same averages at the cattle imported from Hungary were slightly lower and insignificant. High coefficients of variability of the studied traits were found that would allow intensive selection of cows and to create herds with high productivity and long-term economic use.

This study covered 737 controlled first calving Simmental cows with, lactations concluded within one year. All first calving animals were on the farms of individual farmers in the municipalities of Kragujevac and Mladenovac. The research included the influence of bull sires, year and season of calving on milk yield and fertility. Least squares method was used to determine the average duration of lactation of 323.74 days. For a period of 305 days, heifers produced 3701.67 kg of milk, or 3644.58 kg of 4% FCM. The average production of milk fat was 144.26 kg and milk fat content was 3.88%. The interval from calving to first insemination lasted in average 124.19 days, and the animals were first calved at the age of 789.95 days. The bull sires had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on the duration of lactation, milk yield and 4% FCM, milk fat yield and content and age of cows at first calving. The duration of service period was not under significant effect (P>0.05) of bull sires. Year of calving had a significant effect (P<0.01) on the duration of lactation, production of milk, milk fat and 4% FCM. Milk fat content, service period and age at first calving did not show significant variation due to the impact of different years of calving (P>0.05). Season of calving of cows demonstrated highly significant effect (P<0.01) on the production of milk and 4% FCM, and significant (P>0.05) on the production of milk fat, however it had no effect (P>0.05) on the milk fat content, duration of lactation and service period and age at calving.

The characteristic of milk productivity of cows of Holstein and Simmental breeds in LLC “Sibirskaya Niva” in the Maslyaninsky district in the Novosibirsk region has been given. It has been revealed that under the natural and climatic environments of the Western Siberia, when creating favorable conditions for feeding and housing for cows of Holstein and Simmental breeds have sufficiently high milk productivity. It has been found that Holstein first-calf heifers surpassed their Simmental herdmates by 959 kg in milk yield for the first 305 days of lactation under the same conditions of housing and feeding, by 3,1 kg in daily milk yield, by 38,2 kg in milk fat yield, and by 28,3 kg in milk protein yield (P < 0,001). There were no statistically significant differences between animals of Holstein and Simmental breeds in terms of fat and protein content in milk, which amounted to 3,94 and 2,96 % in Holstein breed and 3,97 and 2,98 % in Simmental breed, respectively. Both breeds have shown high milk productivity during the first 3 lactations. Thus, the milk yield of Holstein cows for the first 3 lactation was 6475–9290 kg, Simmental cows it was 5516–7680 kg, fat content was 3,93–3,99 and 3,96–3,97 %, respectively. The protein content in the milk of cows of both breeds did not exceed 3,0 %. High variability has been found in milk yield, yield of milk fat and protein, the coefficient of milk content and duration of lactation, the lowest in the content of protein and fat in milk and live weight. The correlation coefficients between the fat and protein content in milk were generally positive, but did not exceed 0,28. Therefore, breeding in the herd of cows in LLC “Sibirskaya Niva” have to be conducted not only by fat content, but also by protein content in milk.

SUMMARYEight cows in mid lactation and receiving a diet of perennial ryegrass silage and barley (70:30 on a DM basis) were given intravenous supplements of l-methionine (8 g/d). The methionine treatment had no significant effect on milk yield, protein content or lactose content, but increased milk fat content and yield by approximately 10% (P < 0·05).

In order to examine the variability of production performance traits (lactation duration, milk yield for the whole lactation, milk yield in standard lactation, milk fat content, milk fat yield in standard lactation, protein content and yield in standard lactation), 954 cows, domestic and imported Simmental populations, were included in the study, with a total of 3641 completed lactations. Cows were located in the area of Toplica district, reared on individual farming households (tied system) and on the farm with intensive farming (free system). Based on the rearing method and origin, animals were divided into four groups: Group 1 (domestic animals reared by individual agricultural producers on individual farming households); Group 2 (imported animals reared by individual agricultural producers on individual farming households); Group 3 (domestic animals reared on the farm) and Group 4 (imported animals reared on the farm). The fourth group of studied cows showed the highest yield and protein content, while the cows of the third group had the longest lactation and the highest milk fat content. All production performance traits varied highly significantly (p?0.001) under the influence of the combined factor of housing/rearing method and origin.

Abstract. Aim. The study of the influence of crossbriding on the growth and development of heifers and subsequent productive and reproductive qualities of cows on the first lactation. Methods. Using statistical methods, correlation analysis and ANOVA for evaluated genetic indicators of economic-valuable traits of dairy cattle. In particular was studied live weight of heifers from birth to 18 months, first insemination age and first fecundation age, live weight at fecundation, frequency of insemination, first calving age, days open, live weight at first lactation, milk yield for 305 days (kg), fat (%, kg) and protein (%, kg) in milk. Results. Relationship between productive indicators and the genotype of the animal is established. When assessing the strength of the influence of the factor «blood on the Holstein breed» it was found that the greatest impact can be traced at the age of 6 and 18 months, and is respectively 12.7 % and 17.1 %.The reproductive qualities of the first-calf cows decreased with the increase percent of blood in the Holstein breed. Evaluation of the impact of crossbreeding on milk production at first lactation has revealed significant strong influence on milk yield for 305 days of first lactation, and related signs the amount of milk fat and protein. According to qualitative indicators, the low influence of the Holstein blood fraction was found, while to a greater extent on the fat content than on the protein content in milk. Evaluation of phenotypic and genotypic correlations of milk yield and quality components of milk revealed average negative phenotypic and low negative genotypic correlation in all groups. The exception was in heifers of Yaroslavl breed with percent of Holstein blood less than 50 %, in which the relationship of yield x protein was positive. The relationship between milk yield and fat and protein content in milk has the opposite moderate character and strength. Practical significance. Studies was established that breeding of animals of Holstein and Yaroslavl breeds in one herd allows to receive an optimum ratio of milk production with optimal percentage fat and protein. For this herd among animals of the improved genotypes of the Yaroslavl breed, the use of genotypes with a percent of blood in the Holstein breed from 75.1 % to 87.6 % is optimal, which should be taken into account when selecting bulls to the breeding program.
