With the commercial fishery expansion to deeper waters, some vulnerable deep-sea species have been increasingly captured. To reduce the fishing impacts on these species, exploitation and management must be based on detailed and precise information about their biology. The common mora Mora moro has become the main deep-sea species caught by longliners in the Northeast Atlantic at depths between 600 and 1200 m. In the Azores, landings have more than doubled from the early 2000s to recent years. Despite its growing importance, its life history and population structure are poorly understood, and the current stock status has not been assessed. To better determine its distribution, biology, and long-term changes in abundance and size composition, this study analyzed a fishery-dependent and survey time series from the Azores. M. moro was found on mud and rock bottoms at depths below 300 m. A larger–deeper trend was observed, and females were larger and more abundant than males. The reproductive season took place from August to February. Abundance indices and mean sizes in the catch were marked by changes in fishing fleet operational behavior. M. moro is considered vulnerable to overfishing because it exhibits a long life span, a large size, slow growth, and a low natural mortality.

Much light can be shed on life history evolution through study of responses of organisms to chronic exposure to a novel or perturbed environment. To determine the influence of 28 yr of temporally unpredictable thermal elevation on their life history patterns, I sampled eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) from a thermally elevated (outflow from a nuclear reactor) and an ambient (farm pond) habitat in South Carolina every month for 2 yr. Fish from the artificially heated environment reproduced all year, had higher reproductive investments (higher clutch sizes and reproductive biomass), and smaller offspring than did fish from the ambient environment, which ceased reproduction from October through March, typical for natural populations of the region. Likely environmental factors responsible for these differences include unpredictable food resources, higher mortality from thermal death, and higher predation by fishes and birds in the heated waters. The extent to which these life history alterations are the result of adaptive genetic changes versus phenotypically plastic responses remains to be tested.

The main object of the present paper is to furnish a brief account to the knowledgement of Protozoa parasitic in common Brazilian frog of the genus Leptodactylus for general students in Zoology and for investigators that use this frog as a laboratory animal. Hepatozoon leptodactyli (Haemogregarina leptodactyli) was found in two species of frogs - Leptodactylus ocellatus and L. pentadactylus - in which develop schizogony whereas sporogony occurs in the leech Haementeria lutzi as was obtainded in experimental conditions. Intracellular forms have been found in peripheral circulation, chiefly in erythrocytes, but we have found them in leukocytes too. Tissue stages were found in frog, liver, lungs, spleen, gut, brain and heart. The occurence of hemogregarine in the Central Nervous System was recorded by Costa & al,(13) and Ball (2). Some cytochemical methods were employed in attempt to differentiate gametocytes from trophozoites in the peripheral blood and to characterize the cystic membrane as well. The speorogonic cycle was developed in only one specie of leech. A brief description of the parasite is given.

Anti-Muslim emotions are not new for the world. It was present since the rise of Islam. The respective research is based on the fact that hatred is the negative notion whether it related with nobility or wicked perception. It creates harmful effects on human psychology which subsequently created abusive mindset and actions. When any form of ideology identified as phobia means uncontrolled envy combine with the concept and turn it into a form of frenzied connotation. The fight between East and West was ancient which now convert among religions particularly Islam and others. The research is intend to provide the journey of anti-Islamism from past to present as well its significant elements and its present state. It also discusses the future prospects of clash of religions.

Notwithstanding the numerous and fruitful researches which have been recently made into the life-history of Bacteria, our knowledge of the common and interesting curved and spiral forms— the Vibrio and Spirillum of Ehrenberg—has made little or no advance since his time, neither embryonic nor reproductive forms having ever been observed; while even the zooglœa phase, so characteristic of Bacterium and Bacillus, has only once been mentioned, and then in a different form. A fresh-water aquarium, which has been stagnating since last summer in the Physiological Laboratory of University College, con­tained in winter vast numbers of ordinary motile Spirillum. On recently re-examining the water, one zooglœa film after another having in the meantime formed on the surface, thickened, broken, and sunk, we found that these motile forms had almost disappeared, while the films consisted almost entirely of resting Spirillum in a gelatinous-looking matrix, similar to that of Bacterium and Bacillus . Among these were two or three apparently distinct kinds of filaments, some resting and colourless, others motile, and filled with highly refracting bright yellowish-brown spheres. Such a field is represented in fig. 1.

Recently, the incidence of Myrothecium leaf spot, a foliar disease of watermelon, has increased in South Carolina. However, the identity of the fungal species responsible for outbreaks of this disease has not been determined. Sequence data from four partial gene regions were used to conduct Bayesian inference in order to identify 95 isolates of Stachybotriaceae. Isolates were collected in South Carolina between July 2015 and May 2018. In total, six species of Stachybotriaceae were identified on watermelon and two other cucurbits: Albifimbria verrucaria, Gregatothecium humicola, Paramyrothecium foliicola, P. humicola, Xenomyrothecium tongaense, and Xepicula leucotricha. Two species, G. humicola and P. foliicola, were the predominant species found. Within these two species, genetic differences within small spatial scales were detected. Five species (all except Xenomyrothecium tongaense) were tested in experiments to determine their pathogenicity and relative virulence on three hosts grown in rotation in South Carolina. Southern pea plants were less susceptible than watermelon and tomato plants, which were equally susceptible. This constitutes the first reliable report of pathogenicity of any of the five tested species of Stachybotriaceae on these three vegetable crops. Another important finding was that none of the isolates were identified as P. roridum, the species considered to be the only causal agent of Myrothecium leaf spot on cucurbits. We propose the common name “ink spot” for the foliar phase of diseases caused by genera within the family Stachybotriaceae. This name is descriptive and likely to be accepted by growers. To prevent further loss incurred by ink spot, watermelon and tomato crops should be monitored for this disease.

Life-history traits involved in trade-offs are known to vary with environmental conditions. Here, we evaluate the response of the trade-off between ‘offspring number’ versus ‘energy invested per offspring’ to ambient temperature in 11 natural populations of the common lizard, Zootoca vivipara . We provide evidence at both the intra- and interpopulation levels that the trade-off is reduced with an increase in air temperature. If this effect enhances current individual fitness, it may lead to an accelerated pace of life in warmer environments and could ultimately increase adult mortality. In the context of global warming, our results advocate the need for more studies in natural populations to explore interactions between life-history traits' trade-offs and environmental conditions.
