This study aims to investigate the direct impact of green motives (GM) and green business strategies (GBS) on sustainable development (SD) in the hospitality sector. It explores the direct links between GM and SD. Moreover, the mediating role of GBS between GM and SD was tested. The research relies on the stakeholders’ theory, which states that the organization’s success and future development depends on the satisfaction of stakeholders. Data were collected from 451 top managers and owners from 54 hotels (5, 4 and 3-star hotels) operating in Pakistan. Quantitative analysis including correlation, regression, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model techniques were used. The mediating role of GBS was assessed using the bootstrapping method. Results proved that GM and GBS enable hotel industry to achieve the targets of SD. Finding also proved that GBS act as a mediator between the GM and SD link. The hotel industry needs attention to achieve the targets of SD and customers’ inclination towards more hygienic and environmental issues after the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic situation has forced the hotel industry to adapt GBS initiated through GM. The current research articulated this upcoming issue and offered a SD model for the hotel industry.

The Covid-19 induced economic crisis has significantly affected almost all businesses from nearly every sector, causing severe financial problems, lack of cash assets, and decrease of revenues. In this context, the economic entities were forced to look for adjustment and rescue solutions of their activities. One possible solution for the recovery and reorganization of economic entities’ activities is demerger. This paper evaluates the impact of demerger upon the sustainable development of economic entities in terms of economic efficiency and financial performances. To achieve this goal, a statistical analysis of profitability ratios before and after the demerger, as well as a structural analysis of 268 demerger projects for the April 2012–April 2021 period, were performed. The results attest there are no significant differences between the ex-ante and ex-post financial performances. However, demerger seems to have a positive effect upon analyzed companies helping them to overcome economic hardships, rethink their business strategies, and continue their activity in the medium and long-term time horizon.

In 2015, the United Nations (UN) launched the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", adopted by all the 193 UN member states. The Agenda exhorts countries to start working towards achieving the so-called "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs). The 17 Goals of the Agenda represent a to-do list for people and the planet, aiming at improving people's life conditions and protecting the environment. The COVID-19 crisis has threatened the achievement of the SDGs in several ways. People's life has been dramatically affected and there is an urgent need for an effective global recovery plan. The crisis should be transformed from a curse to an opportunity; innovation, today more than ever, should be pointed towards building up a sustainable future. To incentivize the spread of innovative and sustainable ideas, it should be clearly outlined their impact. In this work, it is analysed the availability of frameworks and tools to translate the "macro" – the SDGs – into the "micro" – organizational and entrepreneurial strategies. There are different valuable tools provided by many recognized organizations, which aim at supporting companies and organizations in measuring, managing, and reporting their impact over the achievement of the SDGs. With this huge number of available tools, it is difficult to decide in which one to invest time and resources. The contribution of organizations over the SDGs is often not clear.

Institutionalized Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) are a widely debated phenomenon, addressed by both scientific literature and policymakers. The most important contribution of this work is to describe the various theories used for understanding the performance expectations of PPPs, as the focus on performance is still poor despite the growing interest in participant companies (mixed-owned companies), especially at the local level. While analyzing the evaluation of the performance of these entities, a wide stream of literature has focused on profitability and efficiency, showing a substantial difference in terms of the performance of such companies compared to private capital ones. All this leads us to consider the Public Value theory as the best framework in literature to address the many dimensions of performance and business strategy in PPPs while pursuing sustainable development. The interest in this area has increased lately, mainly due to the growing complexity within this dynamic context. Therefore, it seems meaningful to carry out a systematic review of the relevant published literature in this field. This study contributes to the literature on sustainable development in Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) that are seen as a form of mixed-owned companies, trying to address their multilayered performance expectations within the public value perspective and to understand how the role of performance measurement is influencing business strategies and the attitude towards sustainable environment. This will prove useful to scholars, policymakers and practitioners alike.

Abstract Phosphogypsum (PG) is a waste by-product (residue) originating from the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilisers. PG contains chemical and radioactive impurities, which is why it is mostly stockpiled in controlled areas. Worldwide, only about 15 % of PG is recycled or reused. Today, policies and business strategies prioritise sustainable development through circular economy, which certainly includes PG. This provides new opportunities for Croatia to manage its PG and make an effort to use it as an additive in different industries, such as agriculture and construction. Due to its chemical and radiological properties, PG can potentially cause problems for the environment and human health. Hence, before using PG, detailed knowledge of potential hazards is necessary to protect people and the environment. The aim of this review is to summarise available data on Croatian PG, compare them with other countries, and to identify knowledge gaps and the lack of data on potential hazardous substances in PG in order to assess the opportunities of using PG in Croatia.

The government is currently trying to realize Sustainable Development Goals/ SGDs. SGDs are not merely dreams that cannot be realized. The noble goal of SDG is to realize sustainable development for the better future that is in line with the concepts of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). One of the companies that participated in the realization of SDGS is PT Badak NGL. This study used descriptive analysis to provide clear descriptions or overviews of the object of the study. The study also used a case study of a MSME under the guidance of PT Badak NGL, namely Saputra Snack. Thus, the common goals between CSR, and SDGs is the spirit to realize sustainable development in terms of business strategies by implementing CSR programs. If all elements are committed to realize 17 SDG, so we can provide better future for our children - with low poverty, environment and earth sustainability, low levels of inequality in the economic, social and legal education sectors. Based on the observation and analysis, one of the keys of success to Saputra Snack was its high commitment. The high commitment did not only come from Saputra Snack itself, but also from PT Badak NGL Community Development party.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the suitability of a single brand for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the hospitality sector to boost sustainable development in Mauritius. Design/methodology/approach The research design focuses on a literature review, face-to-face interviews and focus groups. The focus group method was used to consult 24 MSMEs and to gather their opinions on the value of a single brand for the hospitality sector. Other stakeholders were interviewed via face-to-face unstructured interviews, including at least one representative from the government, intergovernmental agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Findings The findings demonstrated that MSMEs in the accommodation sector have yet to realize the importance of effective brand management. Currently, they are focusing on short-term business strategies that could jeopardize their survival. Meanwhile, some businesses have noted a change in the profile of tourists and that more of them are looking for an authentic tourism experience. Respondents feel that the process of becoming certified is tedious and for a family business, and time consuming but perhaps necessary in the medium term. The survey also revealed that MSMEs involved in the hospitality sector in Mauritius are turning toward the digitalization of their offering. Respondents felt that this will help them to deliver a better service to the customers and provide a worthy experience. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of this study is the modest sample size. Emphasis was placed on targeting key respondents to provide expert opinions on the topic. Originality/value To the best of the author’s knowledge, this paper is the first study of its kind in Mauritius to analyze the suitability of an existing ecosystem for a single branding approach that integrates with the sustainable development goals in a practical way.
