The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of high temperature in injection molding process on mechanical properties of the warp-knitted and nonwoven composite fabrics (WNC)used in car interior. Tensile, tearing and peeling properties of WNC fabrics were tested after heat treatment under120, 140,160,180°C respectively. It was found that, after 140°C heat treatment, the breaking and tearing value of these WNC fabrics are lower than others. The results of this study show that this phenomenon is due to the material properties of fabrics. These high temperatures have no much effect on peeling properties of these WNC fabrics. It is concluded that in order to preserve the mechanical properties of these WNC fabrics, the temperature near 140°C should be avoided possibly during injection molding process.

With the wide application of high strength concrete in the building construction,the risk making concrete subject to high temperatures during a fire is increasing. Comparison tests on the mechanical properties of high strength concrete (HSC) and normal strength concrete (NSC) after the action of high temperature were made in this article, which were compared from the following aspects: the peak stress, the peak strain, elasticity modulus, and stress-strain curve after high temperature. Results show that the laws of the mechanical properties of HSC and NSC changing with the temperature are the same. With the increase of heating temperature, the peak stress and elasticity modulus decreases, while the peak strain grows rapidly. HSC shows greater brittleness and worse fire-resistant performance than NSC, and destroys suddenly. The research and evaluation on the fire-resistant performance of HSC should be strengthened during the structural design and construction on the HSC buildings.

Mg alloys are lightweight structural alloys that normally have a good castability and machinability as well as an excellent specific strength and rigidity. However, the mechanical properties of Mg alloys are inferior to those of Al alloys, and their range of industrial applications is limited. Recently, Mg–Zn–Y alloy has been found to show a high tensile yield strength with a good elongation. The alloy has a long-period stacking order (LPSO) phase as the secondary phase in an α-Mg phase. In general, the tensile yield strengths of LPSO-type Mg alloy are known to be markedly enhanced by the formation of kink bands in the LPSO phase and by microstructural refinement of the α-Mg phase during plastic deformation. The separate roles of the LPSO phase and the α-Mg phase in relation to the mechanical properties of high-strength LPSO-type Mg alloy were investigated at ambient and high temperatures. For high strengths at ambient and high temperatures, it was important that the α-Mg phase consisted of a fine-grain region and a nonrecrystallized region, and that the LPSO phase remained as a block-type phase. On the other hands, it was necessary to change the LPSO phase from a block-type phase into a plate-type phase by heat treatment before tensile testing to improve the ductility of the alloy while maintaining its tensile yield strength. Microstructural control of the LPSO phase and the α-Mg phase is necessary to obtained Mg–Zn–Y alloy with superior mechanical properties at ambient-to-high temperatures.

The use of wood wastes in the production of bio-concrete shows high potential for the development of sustainable civil construction, since this material, in addition to having low density, increases the energy efficiency of buildings in terms of thermal insulation. However, a concern arising from the production of bio-concretes with high amounts of plant biomass is how this material behaves when subjected to high temperatures. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the influence of high temperatures on the mechanical properties of wood bio-concretes. The mixtures were produced with wood shavings volumetric fractions of 40, 50 and 60% and cementitious matrix composed of a combination of cement, fly ash and metakaolin. Uniaxial compression tests and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed, with bio-concrete at age of 28 days, at room temperature (reference) and after exposure to temperatures of 100, 150, 200 and 250 °C. The density and compressive strength of the bio-concrete gradually decreased with increasing biomass content. Up to 200 °C, reductions in strength and densities less than 19% and 13%, respectively, were observed. At 250 °C, reductions of compressive strength reached 87%. Analysis performed by SEM showed an increase in the number of cracks in the wood-cementitious matrix interface and wood degradation by increasing the temperature.

Fires are always known for seriously deteriorating concrete in structures, especially for those with certain carbonation due to long-time service. In this paper, 75 prism specimens were prepared and divided into four groups (three carbonated groups and one uncarbonated group). Specimens were tested under different temperatures (20, 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700°C), exposure times (3, 4, and 6 hours), and cooling methods (water and natural cooling). Surface characteristics, weight loss rate, and residual mechanical properties (strength, initial elastic modulus, peak, and ultimate compressive strains) of carbonated concrete specimens after elevated temperatures were investigated and compared with that of the uncarbonated ones. Results show that the weight loss rates of the carbonated concrete specimens are slightly lower than that of the uncarbonated ones and that the cracks are increased with raising of temperatures. Surface colors of carbonated concrete are significantly changed, but they are not sensitive to cooling methods. Surface cracks can be evidently observed on carbonated specimens when temperature reaches 400°C. Residual compressive strength and initial elastic modulus of carbonated concrete after natural cooling are generally larger than those cooled by water. The peak and ultimate compressive strains of both carbonated and uncarbonated concrete specimens increase after heating, but the values of the latter are greater than that of the former. Finally, the constitutive equation to predict the compressive behaviors of carbonated concrete after high temperatures was established and validated by tests.
