The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to apply the Inquiry Based Learning Approach in teaching reading comprehension for the tenth grade students. In this research, the researcher proposed two hypotheses. They were null hypothesis (Ho) and alternative hypothesis (Ha). The method applied was pre-experimental with one group pre-test posttest design. The object of this research consisted of 20 students. The data were collected by means of test consisting 20 items of multiple choices. The data obtained were analyzed through three techniques: 1) Individual Score, 2) Conversion of Individual Score Based on Minimum Mastery Criteria, and 3) Matched t-test. The results of this research shows that  the students’ mean  score in the pre-test was 60.13 and those in the  post-test was 75.25. The result of matched t-test was 5.25, which was higher than t-table value (1.725) of 20 with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that it was significantly effective in teaching reading to the tenth grade students by applying Based Learning Approach.

The aim of research is to know the effectiveness of Number Head Together (NHT) in Teaching Reading Comprehension at tenth grade students of MAN 4 Kediri. Quantitative post-test only control group design used the approach to design this research. The subject of the research is tenth grade student of MAN 4 Kediri. The subject were X MIA 1 class as experimental class which consist of 36 students and X MIA 2 class as control class which consist of 36 students. To get data, the researcher use test. The data analyzed by using t- test can be found with SPSS 16.0. The mean score of students’ reading comprehension in experimental class belongs to very good category. Its score 83.19. Meanwhile, the mean score in control class belongs to good category with mean score 77.22. The result of statistical computation value of the independent sample t-test is 3.050 with t table within degree of freedom (df) 70 at 5% significant level is 2.647. It can be seen that t-statistic value is higher than t-table. Because there is significant increase in student’s reading comprehension after doing treatment, it can be said that number head together in reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of MAN 4 Kediri in academic year 2018/2019 is effective. So the alternative hypothesis was accepted.

In this research, the researcher took twenty students as a sample. The result of the study shows that the score of pre-test was 61 while the mean score of post-test was 81.5 and the mean score of differentiate was 20.5. On the other side, it was found that the result of t-score is bigger than t-table (9,71 > 2,11) at the significant level of 0,05. Therefore, based on the hypothesis testing, we can conclude that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the using small group discussion as a method is effective to increase students reading comprehension of the students’ of Senior High School, especially for the tenth grade of SMA NEGERI 1 WOLOWAE. This research is a study of improving students’ ability in reading comprehension. The aim was to find out whether the use of Herringbone technique would bring a significant difference in teaching reading comprehension through Recount text, compared with the result before the students being treated. The study was conducted in the tenth grade students of SMA N 4 Pematangsiantar. The research method used was the experimental design, where the Experimental group was the PMIA 3 class, and the PMIA 2 class as the control class. Both of the classes had 34 students in each of it. The data were obtained through pre-test, treatment and post test. The pre-test was held to know the students’ basic ability or score before treatment was given. Meanwhile, the post test was held to know the students’ achievement and significant effect after the students were taught using Herringbone technique. Finding of the research showed that both groups had a significant improvement in their reading ability after being treated and passed the KKM. The Control group, which the pre-test score was 60, made an improvement shown in their post-test score in amount of 70,44. The experimental group, the group which the researcher treated the Herringbone technique to them, had a higher improvement than the control group. The average score of pre-test in this group was about 54,41 where then being improved up to 78,97. The score of t-test (3,981) was higher than t-table (1,668) at the level of significance 5% for two tailed test, so Null Hypothesis is rejected and Alternative Hypothesis is accepted.

The scaffolded reading experience framework consists of a set of prereading, during-reading, and post-reading activities to use with any genre of text, including fiction and nonfiction. The aim of this study was the effectiveness of scaffolded reading experience in teaching reading comprehension to the students of Musi Rawas University? The method used in this research was quasi-experimental method. The population of this study was all of the students of Musi Rawas University. The sample of this study was students of accounting study progrom in first semester taken through convenience non random sampling. The data were collected through a written test. It was pre-test and post test. The data analyzed through t-test formula. From this study it was found that the students’ pre-test average score in the experimental group was 55 and in the control group was 53.91. Meanwhile the students’ post-test average score in the experimental group was 80 and the students’ average score in the control group was 75. In addition of t-obtained were 2.049 where the value of t-table was 1.684 at df 74 in significance level of 0.05 and with one-tailed testing. Since the value of t-obtained was higher than the critical value of the t-table (2.049>1.684), it can be concluded that, teaching reading comprehension by using scaffolded reading experience (SRE) to the students of Musi Rawas University was effective.

This study examined the effects of peer-assisted learning strategies (PALS) on students' literacy development and beliefs about reading, when PALS is implemented with secondary-level students in remedial and special education classes. Teachers were assigned to PALS ( n = 9 classes) and contrast ( n = 9 classes) treatments. Teachers implemented PALS with their entire classes five times every 2 weeks, for 16 weeks. To designate research participants for outcome measurement, teachers identified all students whose reading instructional levels were Grades 2 through 6. Reading comprehension and fluency were measured before and after treatment; beliefs were indexed after treatment. Analyses of variance indicated that, compared to contrast counterparts, PALS students grew more on reading comprehension and reported more positive beliefs about working hard to improve reading. However, PALS and contrast students grew comparably on reading fluency and reported similar beliefs about being and wanting to become better readers. Implications are discussed for developing effective forms of peer-mediated instruction for use in high school remedial and special education classes.

AbstractThe main objective of this research is to improve the eighth graders’ reading comprehension through Jigsaw technique at SMP 1 PSKD. This research is a classroom action research in two cycles. The research was done on April 12th, 2016 until May 24th, 2016. The subject of the research was the students of VIII class at SMP 1 PSKD. There were 27 students (13 males and 14 females). The instruments of the test are pre-test and post-test. The non instruments test are observation sheets, interview, and researcher’s diary notes. The improvement of the eighth graders’ reading comprehension scores can be seen from the result of the pre-test and post-test. The average score of the students in the pre-test was 49.03 points and in cycle 1 the average score of the students was 65.78 points. So the increase between the two tests was 16.75 or 34.16%. In the cycle 2, the average of students’ score was 75.85 points. The result of the posttest 1 was 65.78 points, so the increase from post-test 1 in cycle 1 to post-test 2 in cycle 2 was 10.07 points or 15.75%. The improvement from pre-test to post-test 2 was 54.70%. In addition to the score increase, jigsaw technique can improve the students’ enthusiasm in learning reading comprehension. It can be seen from the result of the interview. The participants were interested in learning reading comprehension through jigsaw technique because jigsaw technique helped them in comprehending the text. This research was also supported by the result of researcher’s diary notes. The researcher’s diary notes shows that there were a positive changed from cycle 1 to cycle 2.
