The scaffolded reading experience framework consists of a set of prereading, during-reading, and post-reading activities to use with any genre of text, including fiction and nonfiction. The aim of this study was the effectiveness of scaffolded reading experience in teaching reading comprehension to the students of Musi Rawas University? The method used in this research was quasi-experimental method. The population of this study was all of the students of Musi Rawas University. The sample of this study was students of accounting study progrom in first semester taken through convenience non random sampling. The data were collected through a written test. It was pre-test and post test. The data analyzed through t-test formula. From this study it was found that the students’ pre-test average score in the experimental group was 55 and in the control group was 53.91. Meanwhile the students’ post-test average score in the experimental group was 80 and the students’ average score in the control group was 75. In addition of t-obtained were 2.049 where the value of t-table was 1.684 at df 74 in significance level of 0.05 and with one-tailed testing. Since the value of t-obtained was higher than the critical value of the t-table (2.049>1.684), it can be concluded that, teaching reading comprehension by using scaffolded reading experience (SRE) to the students of Musi Rawas University was effective.

This study attempted to find out: (1) Whether the Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) affects students’ reading comprehension or not, (2) The application of task based language teaching towards students’ reading motivation. This study employed quasi experimental design to scrutinize the applicability of TBLT which involving 2nd grade students of Junior High School 7 Kendari registered in academic year 2019/2020. To this end, 62 participants (including an experimental group and a control class ones) were selected through purposive sampling from among 180 students. Task Based Language Teaching was applied in teaching reading comprehension in experimental group while in control group ones was applied conventional. Both groups were taught the same topic. The test was administered before treatment (pre-test) to examine the students’ previous reading comprehension and it was then compared with their post-test to examine their reading comprehension after being taught using TBLT. Reading test and questionnaire as the instruments of this study. The data from reading test was used to figure out the students’ reading comprehension by using t-test while the data from questionnaire was to figure out the students’ reading motivation. All collected data were computed and analysed by using SPSS 24. The results of reading comprehension test revealed that TBLT significantly effects students’ reading comprehension. Moreover, the result of questionnaire displayed that the students became more motivated to read through Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT).   Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Task Based Language Teaching.

This study was conducted to know whether there is a differencein students’ achievement in reading comprehension through the use of computer-based reading method at the eighth-grade students of Junior High School 13 Banjarmasin, Indonesia. The design used is a quasi-experimental with purposive sampling technique. Sixty students of Junior High School 13 Banjarmasin were used as the samples. 8-E was chosen as the experimental group and was taught by using computer-based reading in three meetings, while 8-F was chosen as the control group and was taught without using computer-based reading in three meetings. Three instruments were used to gather the data, they are documentation, observation, and tests. The results showed that both groups gained change in their achievements. From the calculation result, the experimental group got the average score of 53.33 in pre-test and 63.33 in post-test. The control group got average score 47 in pre-test and 49.5 in post-test. After conducting a t-test, it was revealed that the calculated t-value was greater than t-table (3.597 > 2.00) at the significance level 0.05. Thus, there are different achievement between the experimental group and the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proper use of computer-based reading can upgrade students’ reading comprehension ability. It is suggested to teachers to consider the use computer-based reading as the method of teaching reading comprehension.

The objective of this research was to find out whether the Interactive technique could improve students’ reading comprehension. This was a quasi-experimental research. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SLTP Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu which consisted of 193 students. The sample of this research was the class VIII.2 (34 students) as the experimental group and the VIII.3 (40 students) as the control group. The instrument was a reading comprehension test, which consisted of 40 items. Before the pre-test was given, it was tried out to the students of the same level. The result was t-count in the pre-test was smaller than t-table (1.26 < 2.042). This indicated that the groups were of equal ability. For the post-test, in contrast, the t-count was greater than t- table (2.7 > 2.042). This indicated that the interactive technique could improve students’ reading comprehension.

This study focuses on the investigation of the influence of teacher’s teaching technique on student’s reading comprehension achievement using comic strips media. In this study, the writer used a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study is tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Buay Madang Timurwith 122 students, meanwhile, the writer used purposive sampling as a method for taking a sample. Therefore, class X.MIA 2 was chosen as an experimental group that is taught reading comprehension using comic strips and class X.IIS 2 as a control group who were taught reading comprehension using conventional media. Moreover, the writer used multiple-choice descriptive text. Based on the finding, the mean score of the pre-test experimental group was 50.97 and the mean score of the post-test experimental group was 78.84. While the mean score of the pre-test control group was 38.40 and the post-test score was 43.07 and the result of analyzing the data using SPSS 16, P output was 0.000, It is less than the critical value significance level (0.05). It means that alternative hypotheses (Ha) is accepted and null hypotheses (Ho) is rejected. It can be concluded that there is any significance between the students who are taught by using comic strips media and the students who are taught by using conventional media.

The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of Picture-KWL technique in improving students’ reading comprehension: a cooperative learning approach could improve the reading comprehension and the interest of the students in reading. The design of this research is quasi experimental which the experimental group would be employed treatment Picture-KWL in cooperative learning approach while the control group would be employed treatment using conventional techniques by the researcher. The findings indicated that the experimental class scored higher on the reading comprehension in post-test than their peers did in the control class. The researcher concluded that the technique was successful in improving the reading comprehension performance and recommended that the technique should be integrated into the English Syllabus specially in teaching reading comprehension. Moreover, based on the students’ respond on questionnaire, it shows that the students’ interest was categorized as interested. And also observation showed that the students’ progress were excellent in the classroom during learning progress.

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

ABSTRACT This research was carried out to know the effectiveness of implementing KWL strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension of report text and to know whether there is a significant achievement difference between students who were taught with KWL strategy and those who were not. The instrument used was a multiple choice reading comprehension test. Seventy two eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 1 Bae Kudus were selected as the sample. They were divided equally into experimental and control group. The data collection involved pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The result of the implementation of KWL strategy in the experimental group improved the students’ participation, motivation, and interest during teaching and learning process. In addition, the results of pre-test and post-test showed that mean score of the experimental group had a higher increase from 74.58 to 90.97 than the control group (from 72.77 to 87.77). However, the Independent Sample Test showed there was no significant achievement difference between the students who were taught with KWL strategy and those who were not. This research is a study of improving students’ ability in reading comprehension. The aim was to find out whether the use of Herringbone technique would bring a significant difference in teaching reading comprehension through Recount text, compared with the result before the students being treated. The study was conducted in the tenth grade students of SMA N 4 Pematangsiantar. The research method used was the experimental design, where the Experimental group was the PMIA 3 class, and the PMIA 2 class as the control class. Both of the classes had 34 students in each of it. The data were obtained through pre-test, treatment and post test. The pre-test was held to know the students’ basic ability or score before treatment was given. Meanwhile, the post test was held to know the students’ achievement and significant effect after the students were taught using Herringbone technique. Finding of the research showed that both groups had a significant improvement in their reading ability after being treated and passed the KKM. The Control group, which the pre-test score was 60, made an improvement shown in their post-test score in amount of 70,44. The experimental group, the group which the researcher treated the Herringbone technique to them, had a higher improvement than the control group. The average score of pre-test in this group was about 54,41 where then being improved up to 78,97. The score of t-test (3,981) was higher than t-table (1,668) at the level of significance 5% for two tailed test, so Null Hypothesis is rejected and Alternative Hypothesis is accepted.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh fonik terhadap kemampuan membaca awal pada kelompok B TK Gugus III Kecamatan Buleleng tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Penelitian ini merupakan quasi eksperimen dengan desain non-equaivalent post-test only control design. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah lembar observasi. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 227 anak dan sampelnya 26 anak. TK Dana Punia sebagai kelompok Eksperimen dan TK Tunas Harapan sebagai kelompok Kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata skor hasil setelah diberikan perlakuan didapatkan post-test kelompok eksperimen adalah 62,23 dan kelompok kontrol menggunakan random adalah 42,00, data dianalisis menggunakan uji-t, maka diperoleh thitung yaitu (7,60) dengan taraf signifikansi 5% diperoleh ttabel yaitu (1,17). Karena ttabel > thitung berarti H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima. Dinyatakan bahwa anak yang mendapat perlakuan pendekatan fonik ada perbedaan signifikan dengan anak yang tidak mendapat perlakuan terhadap kemampuan membaca awal anak. Disarankan bahwa pendekatan fonik dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam pembelajaran. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh pendekatan fonik terhadap kemampuan mebaca awal anak kelompok B.Kata Kunci : pendekatan fonik, membaca awal, pembelajaran aktif This study aims to determine the effect of phonic on early reading ability in group B TK Gugus III Buleleng District academic year 2017/2018. This research is a quasi experiment with non-equaivalent design post-test only control design. The method used in data collection is the observation sheet. The population in this study amounted to 227 children and the sample was 26 children. TK Dana Punia as experiment group and Tunas Harapan kindergarten as a control group. The results showed that the average score of the results after the treatment was obtained post-test experimental group is 62.23 and the control group using the random is 42.00, the data is analyzed using the t-test, then obtained tcount ie (7,60) with significance level 5 % obtained ttable ie (1.17). Because ttable> titung means H0 is rejected and H1 accepted. It was stated that children who received phonic approach were significantly different from children who were not treated for early reading ability. It is suggested that the phonic approach can be used as an alternative in learning. Thus it can be concluded that there is influence of phonic approach to ability mebaca early child group B.keyword : Keywords: phonic approach, early reading, active learning

The objective of the study is to find out whether it is effective or not using jigsaw learning model in teaching reading comprehension of  spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang. In this study, the researcher used experimental method. The population of this study is all the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang with the total numbers of students was 392. Therefore, the sample of the study is 72 students consist two classes,namely: 36 students for control group and 36 students for experimental group. The sample was taken by using non purposisve random sampling method. The data collected by using written test consist of 30 questions and the type of questions is multiple choice.  The result of the test was analyzed by using t-test which were pair sample t-test and independent sample t-test was known as: mean of post test in expermental group was 72.22 higher than past test mean score of control group was 58.64. Furthermore, the result of t-obtained was 6.132 and t-table was 2.030, it shows that t-obtained was higher than t-table. From the explanation above, there were significant difference between the experimental group that have been taught by using jigsaw learning model and control group that was not taught using treatment. It means that, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It was concluded that it was effective of using jigsaw learning model to teach reading comprehension of spoof text to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 13 Palembang.
