This paper reports a case study, developed in K-12 Portuguese Education, that aimed to analyze the computer science teachers’ knowledge, interest, and self-confidence to use educational robotics and other programable objects in classroom activities to teach computer science concepts and to promote students’ computational thinking skills. The research design was organized into a descriptive and exploratory quantitative approach. The participants were 174 in-service computer science teachers of Portuguese public education. The data was gathered from the participants, through the online application of the Robotics Interest Questionnaire scale (RIQ). Very positive levels of teacher’s knowledge, interest, and self-efficacy to use educational robotics for teaching purposes were reported in the study outcomes. These constructs were underlined in several studies as relevant factors to promote the use of educational robotics and other similar technologies by the teachers. Despite the study limitations and the small context, a set of relevant results was highlighted on computer science in-service teachers’ interest and preparation to use robotics and to support their students in learning activities with these artifacts.

Teaching of thinking skills, paramount in effective teaching and learning of Mathematics, requires sufficiently knowledgeable teachers for its delivery. As such, it is equally important to determine the minimum level of knowledge required of the teachers, so that, the intended tasks could be carried out successfully. Thus, this quantitative study was conducted with its aim to identify the level of teachers’ knowledge in teaching thinking skills. A total of 199 Mathematics teachers were selected as the respondents in this study. The  collected data was analyzed inferentially to identify the levels of teachers’ knowledge in teaching thinking skills across school categories. The results obtained showed that, Mathematics teachers in primary schools had a relatively lower level of knowledge in teaching thinking skills, compared to their peers in secondary schools. This study revealed the importance of teaching thinking skills to students. Teacher must gain the mastery of thinking skills themselves, so that they would be able to deliver the related lessons effectively. Thus, Mathematics teacher should always keep improving themselves to fully master the teaching of thinking skills to the students.

In this study, the effect of algorithm education on teacher candidates’ computational thinking skills and computer programming self-efficacy perceptions were examined. In the study, one group pretest posttest experimental design was employed. The participants consisted of 24 (14 males and 10 females) teacher candidates, majoring in Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT). In order to determine the teacher candidates’ computer programming self-efficacy perceptions, the Computer Programming Self-Efficacy Scale was used, whereas Computational Thinking Skills Scale was used to determine their computational thinking skills. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used to analyze the differences between pretest and posttest scores of students' computer programming self-efficacy perceptions and computational thinking skills. Throughout the practices, 10 different algorithmic problems were presented to the students each week, and they were asked to solve these problems using flow chart. For 13 weeks, 130 different algorithmic problems were solved. Algorithm education positively and significantly increased students' simple programming tasks, complex programming tasks and programming self-efficacy perceptions. On the other hand, algorithm education had a positive and significant effect only on students’ algorithmic thinking sub-dimension but did not have any effect on other sub-dimensions and computational thinking skills in general.
