The success or failure of an educational institution depends on the leader, the principal, because the principal is the spearhead of the continuity of an educational institution. Principal leadership is the ability that principals have to influence, mobilize, and inspire others by using strategies to voluntarily try to achieve goals. The principal who is effective in carrying out his duties is always committed to the school's vision as a guideline in managing and leading the school.

The quality assurance and development of an educational institution depends on the quality of the headmaster as an educational leader. Therefore, the headmaster are required to be more creative, innovative and dynamic in line with changes in society that are increasingly fast and open. This study aims to analyze the role of principal leadership in supporting quality assurance at SMA YP 17 Surabaya. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach. From the results of the study it can be concluded that in supporting quality assurance, the leadership of the head of SMA YP 17 Surabaya is supported by the character of strong responsibility, courage in making decisions, and participation in implementing policies. The headmaster has made several important efforts in supporting the quality assurance of the institution by developing the curriculum, human resources, infrastructure and increasing community participation. In managerial terms, the development of the quality of the institution is supported by good coordination with the academic community and the existence of togetherness in curriculum management and learning. In order for quality assurance to be more effective, the headmaster must periodically evaluate every program that has been implemented. The aim is to measure the level of success and find out the deficiencies of the program being implemented. Furthermore, the headmaster needs to conduct more massive socialization of the institution to the community. This is an effort to increase community participation in efforts to develop the quality of schools in the future.

Forward the retreat of an educational institution is very influential on the leader figure. In the principal education institution has an important role to advance the school in the lead. Basically education consists of several components that affect each other and related to each other. Of these components, the teacher who plays an important role and is the key to the success of education. For that the competence of a teacher should be improved. With the principal component of teachers and principals that play an important role for the advancement of education, the authors are interested to explore the leadership of principals in improving teacher competence, with the focus of research: 1) How the principal’s efforts in improving teacher competence, 3) the principal’s efforts in improving teacher competence ?. For the purpose of school to be achieved effectively and efficiently requires effective leadership of the principal. There are seven characteristics of effective principal leadership: (1) having a clear vision, (2) having high expectations of achievement; (3) programming and providing positive and constructive feedback, (4) encouraging efficient use of time, (5) utilizing various learning resources, (6), monitoring the progress of learners individually or in groups, (7) and continuous improvement.

Effective institutional leaderis the crucial player to the successful or failureof an educational institution. However, the expectation to own an effective leader often in vain. The reason is because leaders lack of a standard guideline that based on the local context.Therefore, this studyis to develop a proposed model of effective leadership for Malaysian higher educational institutions, in particular, higher educational institutions which are owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). To achieve the research purpose, the questionnaires instrument were distributed to 240 academic staff from the selected higher educational institutions of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA)innorthern Perak, Malaysia. The data were analysed using a statistical method called Partial Least Square (PLS)to develop a proposed model of effective leadership.The effective leadership design model can provide guidelines and encourage leadersto enhance and bring positive change that helps educational institutions succeed and be effective.

The researcher wants to explain the impact of principal leadership on the effectiveness of learning at high school level. The study is aimed at finding principal leadership model as an ideal example in managing school as an educational institution to bring effective learning as an output. The results of the discussion show that the principal's leadership has a significant positive effect on teacher competence to realize the effectiveness of learning. The conclusion from this discussion that the effectiveness of learning can run well can be done by applying the leadership of the principal and teacher competence. The Principal has strong influence because he leads with love, gives positive impact on school even outside world. He has become catalyst agent who brings others to a purpose, by making himself as not only a creator of culture but also the one who sustains it especially inside school environment. The better the leadership of the principal is, the better the learning effectiveness at the school is.

By knowing the development of the principal's leadership implementation at SMK Negeri 4 Jambi City it is expected to present solutions in building effective leadership in educational institutions. This research is motivated by the role of principal leadership in improving education management. The success and failure of an organization in achieving the goals that have been set depends very much on the role and ways of leading practiced by the leader, in the context of the educational institution is the principal. Recognized or not, the principal is one of the important elements of educational activities. Improving the quality of education in schools and as the highest authority in schools is a professional and moral responsibility to make the school the center of science, culture, and the development of the nation's personality. Given his considerable responsibility, school principals are required to have more and adequate abilities. One of the duties of the principal is as a manager, which is required to be able to complete administrative and supervisory tasks. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with the research location at Tawakkal Junior High School (SMP) Denpasar. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out systematically starting from data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification of results. From the results of the research, the authors concluded that the principal as the leader of educational institutions has been able to become a driving force for school management in a more advanced direction, upholds quality and morality and has been able to implement various management functions in managing educational organizations / institutions based on the principles -management principles and Islamic religious values. This can be proven from the academic achievements that have been obtained in value which has continued to increase, especially in the last three academic years. Likewise, the non-academic achievements he has achieved so far are quite encouraging
