Pesantren has a strategy of resilience from the infiltration of the ideology of religious violent extremism. This resilience comes from the kiai's charisma and institutional commitment to the integrity of the country which has implications for the practice of Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools. This article discusses the form of the resilience of the Pesantren Karangasem Muhammadiyah Lamongan from the ideology of religious violent extremism. Pesantren Karangasem is located in Paciran, which borders Brondong, Lamongan, where religious life in the two coastal villages of Lamongan faces serious challenges because it is becoming pockets of movement for Islamic extremist groups. This article poses two thesis questions: First, what is the form of the resilience of the Pesantren Karangasem from the ideology of religious violent extremism; Second, how this form of resilience can have implications for preventing the entry of radical Islamic actors into the religious life of the coastal community of Lamongan. This study concludes that Pesantren Karangasem is an Islamic educational institution that contributes to spreading moderate Islamic views through several forms of resilience that originate from the kiai's charisma and the Islamic intellectual tradition of the pesantren. Pesantren and Madrasah were born because of the acculturation of local culture and Islam, so Islamic education practitioners should be open, adaptive, and not anti-cultural. The principle that should be followed is to preserve the old values or traditions that are still good and take on new values or traditions that are better. That way, Islamic education will advance and modern, but not uprooted from its historical roots. The method used is a library method that focuses on the study of reference books that discuss the education of Islamic boarding schools and madrassas. The purpose of this paper is to be able to understand the meaning of pesantran / madrasa education in particular in Indonesia Cottage. Islamic boarding schools have gone through various periods of time, this shows that this Islamic educational institution shows a strong survival. This resilience was born because of the existence of idealism and consistency in the progress of his struggle. Supposedly, idealistic values such as the sincerity of the kiai and his sincere commitment to maintaining and developing Islamic teachings can be used as a foothold of idealism for educational practitioners today. The goal is to make educational institutions and activities a place for commercialization and politicization, to reap profits and power.

Ali Bin Abi Talib once said that children should be educated in accordance with the  development of the times. The Ali bin Abi Talib’s statement could be considered as his attention more to the development of human civilization. For that reason, there should be studies focused on the role of educational institutions in facing the challenges of the times. On this stand, the writer raises the existence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) for being considered to have been able to survive amid the onslaught of civilization increasingly obscuring cultural identity. In addition, this study also aims to identify and discuss the role of pesantren in the modern era. This is a literature study using a descriptive and exploratory approach. It can be concluded that pesantren are non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Pesantren have permanent and distictive methods and learning models. The purpose of pesantren education is the same as Islamic education in general, instilling a sense of virtue, familiarizing themselves with courtesy, preparing for a holy, sincere and honest life entirely. Pesantren could be seen from three aspects: (a) pesantren that are seen from facilities and infrastructures, (b) pesantren that are seen from disciplines taught, and (c) pesantren that are seen from the fields of knowledge.
