AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, a collection of symptoms and infections or commonly called syndromes caused by damage to the human immune system due to the HIV virus, while HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, a virus that can weaken immunity in humans. The increasing rate of transmission of HIV/AIDS sexually, especially through sex, has replaced the position of transmission through needles in injecting drug users, as the main route of transmission of HIV. Increased rates of transmission through heterosexual groups have led to increasingly susceptible transmission to low risk groups such as housewives and infants. The HIV/AIDS case is an iceberg phenomenon that must immediately require special attention from health workers. Therefore this community service takes a precautionary and remedial approach with increasing knowledge, with health education and counseling before screening HIV / AIDS with a blood examination, the effort is to cut the chain of transmission of HIV/AIDS. And can be used as a basis for follow-up in treatment with anti retroviral (Anti Retroviral) for participants who are detected positive for HIV/AIDS. This community service was carried out in the Belawan region of  North Sumatra with 80 female participants examined and from the results of the examination there were no detectable women who were HIV/AIDS positive and there was an increase in knowledge about HIV AIDS regarding definitions, signs and symptoms, modes of transmission and methods prevention. So that it is expected that this increase in knowledge will reduce and avoid risky behavior. Keywords: Knowledge, Screening, HIV/AIDS

Background: Clinical training is a part of curriculum for the dental students. They are trained in dental procedures, where there is a chance of exposure to HIV infection. Hence this study was conducted with an objective to assess their knowledge, attitude to treat these patients. Methods: An institutional based study was carried out among 145 dental students at Malla Reddy Dental College for Women. A questionnaire with 29 questions on knowledge, attitude and willing to treat the HIV/AIDS patients which was already used in other study was adapted. Primary outcome- knowledge and attitude was measured in percentages, proportions using SPSS version 20 and Chi-square.Results: Total subjects who had good knowledge were 71 (48.9%) and 137(94.5%) viewed needle stick injury can transmit HIV virus. 138 (98.1%) agreed that it is their moral responsibility to treat HIV/AIDS patients and risk of HIV transmission is high, hence special precautions have to be followed to treat them. Positive attitude towards HIV/AIDS patients was reported among 129(89%) of students. Chi square test showed an association between knowledge and attitude among study subjects which was statistically significant at p <0.05 level. Conclusions: Active student’s collaboration for treatment compliance of HIV/AIDS patients should be directed towards comprehensive training in the dental colleges which forms a basis for provision of appropriate, optimal dental care improving oral health related quality of life in people living with HIV.

Health workers are role models in preventing smoking behavior, yet many are smokers themselves. This study reviews and analyzes the smoking behavior of health workers in Asian countries, based on databases such as PubMed, EBSCO, and Google Scholar in 2013–2018. It is shown that the prevalence of smoking amongst health workers was 4.6–44%, with the nursing profession showing a higher level than other health professions and with a higher ratio of male to female smokers. Health workers are aware of the dangers of smoking, including the effects of cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, oral cancer, atherosclerosis, hypertension, fetal disorders, and infertility. However, the factors that lead to smoking include stress, the influence of friends or family who smoke, and addiction. Health workers are responsible for providing smoking prevention education. However, there are still obstacles to its implementation due to their smoking habits and lack of expertise in educating others. Smoking prohibition policies in the workplace, the training of health workers, and smoking prevention service facilities need to be considered by Asian countries to prevent smoking.
