This study aims to determine whether are differences in problem solving skills of mathematics students using cooperative learning type TAI and NHT in class VII SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Rakyat. This type of research is quasi experiment. The population in this study is all students of grade VII semester 2 SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Rakyat consisting of 5 classes with total 160 students and the sample of this study are VII-1 and VII-3 as many as 64 students. The required dara is obtained by using the students’ math problem solving test in the form of a description of 4 question. From the results of data analysis obtained the average test results of students mathematics problem solving abilities through cooperative learning type TAI is 27,28 with varians 2,65 and the average test result of students’ mathematics problem solving abilities through cooperative leraning type NHT is 22,25 with varians 3,28. To test hypothesis used t test, from the calculation results obtained tcount with the test reject Ho and accept Ha if tcount  1,6697 so it looks  that tcount is not reside in the Ho accetance area which means Ho rejected and Haaccepted or in other  words there are differences problem solving ability of mathematics students using cooperative learning type TAI and NHT in class VII SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Rakyat. Keywords: Mathematical Problem Solving Abilities, TAI, NHT

This study aims to describe the ability of communication and problem solving of mathematical students in the material quadrilateral and triangle in class VII in one district of MTs Bandung. This type of research is qualitative research with phenomenology model which aims to interpret communication ability and ability to solve the mathematical problem of students. The subjects of this study were 24 students for communication skills and 25 students for math problem-solving skills. The result of data analysis shows that the mathematical communication ability of grade VII students in one MTs in Kabupaten Bandung is still relatively low with the highest percentage being in the low communication ability qualification which is 37.5%, while for students who have ability is get percentage equal to 29,2% and for students with high communication skills get a percentage of 33.3%, while for problem-solving skills in class VII is quite good with the highest percentage in qualification students with high problem-solving ability with a percentage of 44%, while for qualified students who ability is getting percentage by 40%, and for low qualifications only got a percentage of 16%.. Keywords: mathematical communication ability, mathematical problem-solving ability

The ability to solve mathematics problems is an ability needed in the learning process. Mathematic anxiety and student learning styles are among the factors that influence the success of mathematics problem-solving ability. By paying attention to mathematics anxiety and learning styles possessed by students, it is expected that the ability to solve mathematics problems will increase. This research is a field research type with an Ex Post Facto method and multiple linear regression statistical data analysis techniques. Data was collected through mathematics anxiety questionnaires, student learning style questionnaires, and mathematics problem-solving skills of students at Madrasah Aliyah level. The results show that (1) there is no significant effect of mathematics anxiety on the ability to solve mathematics problems with the tcount is 1.537 and the significance level is 0.126 ≥ 0.05. (2) there is a positive and significant effect of learning styles on the ability to solve mathematics problems with the value of tcount is 2.457 and a significance level of 0.015 <0.05.

Critical thinking is a thinking process in processing information logically starti from understanding, analyzing, evaluating and making precise conclusions. Critical thinking indicators are clarification, assessment, inference, and strategy that referred to Jacob and Sam. Mathematics is designed to improve students' critical thinking in a solving problem. One of the factors that affect students' critical thinking in solving a problem is AQ. This research is descriptive study with qualitative approach. The aim is to describe critical thinking profile of climber, camper, and quitter students in solving mathematical problems. The subjects were three students of VIII grade junior high school who represented each AQ category and had good communication skills. The instrument used was the ARP questionnaire, mathematics problem solving tests, and interview guidelines. The results shows that students’ critical thinking profile in understanding the problem is climber and camper student do all indicators of critical thinking in the clarification phase. Quitter student is only able mentioning known and asked information. In devising a plan, climber student implements all indicators of assessment and strategy phase. Camper student implements all indicators in assessment phase, but do not discuss the possible steps in strategy phase. Quitter student does not do both assessment and strategy phase. In carrying out the plan, climber and camper students do all indicators of inference phase, while quitter student does not. In the step of looking back, only climber student who carries out evaluating steps that have been done. Keywords: Jacob and Sam’s critical thinking, mathematical problem solving, adversity quotient

This research aims to know between emotional intelligence and mathematic’s problem-solving in students grade 8th in MTs. Al-Fathaanah Mempawah. This research used the correlation to be method and use the Pearson product moment’s formula to processing data. Twenty-one students are samples of this research, and they are select by using purposive sampling. The data collection technique in this research is using problem-solving and indirect communication that was using an emotional intelligence questionnaire. This research is the connection of emotional intelligence with mathematics problem-solving students grade 8th on MTs. Al-Fathaanah Mempawah, with r = 0.45 and the correlation classified is average. Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Problem-solving skill is required by students and a target in studying mathematics. However, the problem-solving skill of Indonesian students are lacking. One effort that can be done is applying the Model of Learning Cycle 5E.  This research discussed the influence of the implementation of the learning cycle model on mathematics problem-solving skill viewed from students’ adversity quotient. This research used a quantitive approach, quasi-experimental study. The subjects were the 8th Grade students of SMP IT Ash-Shiddiiqi Jambi, consisting of two experiment classes and one control class. The instruments were post-test and adversity quotient questionnaire modified by Stoltz and had been validated by experts. Data analysis was conducted by Two-Way ANOVA. The results showed that there was no interaction between the learning cycle 5E model and mathematics problem-solving skill. This finding indicates that the model of learning cycle 5E affects problem-solving skills and can be applied to students with all types of adversity quotient.

Abstract. This study is a classroom action research. The purpose of this research is (1) to describe the application of problem solving method in improving mathematics problem solving students of mathematics education program of Catholic University of Santo Thomas North Sumatera and (2) to describe the improvement of mathematics problem solving ability of mathematics education student in Algebra and Trigonometry. The result of this research shows that the result of problem solving test of mathematics cycle I is students who do not have problem solving ability as much as 3 people (30%), while students have math problem solving ability as much as 7 people (70%) and percentage of observation sheet lecturer activity amounted to 70.90%. Based on the result of math problem solving test in cycle 2, there were 1 (10%) students who did not have the ability to solve mathematics problem, while the students who have problem solving ability 9 students (90%) and lecturer activity percentage of 85.50% experienced an increase from cycle I of 6.5%. Based on the results of this acquisition then the group (classical) can be said that students have the ability to solve problems in Algebra and Trigonometry courses and increase problem-solving abilities by 20%. Keywords: problem solving method and problem solving ability.
