In the context of globalization and nation processes, the problem of preserving national culture, their traditions and customs as the titular nation is especially acute. Therefore, today one of the main tasks is the formation of national identity, including by means of folk dance. The main tasks and priority areas for the formation of national identity are determined by the State National Program "Education" (in the XXI century), which notes that national education is one of the main priorities, an organic component of education. National education is aimed at attracting citizens to the deep layers of national culture and spirituality, the formation of national worldview positions, ideas, views and beliefs in children and young people based on the values of national and world culture.

National identity development is a foundation of national education. On the other hand, the national identity is the society and state base. The current political situation in Lithuania doesn't create good conditions for development of national identity. It is obvious that a national situation of the present Lithuania can be named as sorrowful, because of an erosion of national values. Each member of a society is obliged to do everything in order to keep and develop universal and national values. The development of national values should be the main priority of our society. From the other side we can emphasize that one of Lithuania`s most important aims of the education community should be nationally mature youth education. Young people (well educated and nationally mature) are the future of Lithuania. Key words: education system, national identity, national education.
