Alexander III of Macedon (356-323 BC) has for over 2000 years been one of the best recognized names from antiquity. He set about creating his own legend in his lifetime, and subsequent writers and political actors developed it. He acquired the surname 'Great' by the Roman period, and the Alexander Romance transmitted his legendary biography to every language of medieval Europe and the Middle East. As well as an adventurer who sought the secret of immortality and discussed the purpose of life with the naked sages of India, he became a model for military achievement as well as a religious prophet bringing Christianity (in the Crusades) and Islam (in the Qur'an and beyond) to the regions he conquered. This innovative and fascinating volume explores these and many other facets of his reception in various cultures around the world, right up to the present and his role in gay activism.

In connection with the actualization of the processes of globalization in modern science, the question of literary texts in the process of intercultural communication is acute, as well as how the values and experience of one culture are transmitted and perceived by another culture. In this article, there is attempt, using the example of fable texts by Aesop, La Fontaine and I. A. Krylov as precedent texts not only of their own, but also of world culture, to analyze the place occupied by the concept of "labor" in Greek, French and Russian linguocultures, respectively. Also, the purpose of the article is to demonstrate what are the similarities and differences of this concept in the linguistic cultures of different countries.

The paper deals with a historical novel in verse by the celebrated modern Ukrainian writer Lina Kostenko, for the first time analyzing it totally in a synesthetic way — through the component of musicality (namely barcarole principle of poetic creativity). The folklore origins of barcarole in the world culture have been traced, as well as the peculiarities of the absorption of the genre by professional music and literature, especially Ukrainian. Formation of the genre in the creative work of the author of “Berestechko”, who is the poet of a special musical feeling, deserves special attention. Barcarole is one of the forms of modernity in the creative thinking of Lina Kostenko; it is a natural writer’s way of perceiving reality and transforming it into an aesthetic system of artistic work (both in poems and the novel in verse). Being inclined to poetically adopt chamber and solo musical genres, the poetess creates a special voice polyphony in “Berestechko”, where each sense construct of a modern unity, i. e. novel lyric epos and barcarole, sounds both separately and complementarily, and the part of a protagonist merges into “I” of a speaker. The compositional function of barcarole in “Berestechko” is the modeling of a central character of the text. It is hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, spiritually undermined by the recent defeat. The barcarole elements are used for constructing the author’s version of this failure and its consequences, which spread around Ukraine as circles on water; absorbing a soothing rhythm of a song, which can cure the soul with love; shaping the architectonics of the text in the form of 'splashes'-'circles' with poly-functional titles and subtexts. In the genre structure of the novel, barcarole is essential both in the development of the theme and its stylistic implementation. In the unity of the work, one may notice “prelude”, the main part, and “postlude”, each part with its artistic sense. The images typical for a barcarole — water, boat, song, woman, love, etc. — are designed in accordance with the agrarian microcosm of the main character and its symbolic senses. Time flow, self-immersion, and love do not only spiritually heal hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, but give his life a direction and endow his figure with grandeur. The neoromantic potential of barcarole and the novel in verse correspond well and join in the final coda about the unshakable courage and heroism of the Ukrainian warriors.

The tragedy Prologue written in 1960s is analyzed in the broad context of the history of its creation, Anna Akhmatova’s biographical myth and world culture. The article mentions the problems of academic publication of the text and presents materials for scientific commentary on it. The incompleteness of the play is viewed in connection with its heterogeneous character combining lyrics, drama and epos, verses and prose, tragic and comic, ancient and modern, East and West, national and global, culture and everyday life, written and oral styles.

Интерес к проблеме осмысления и интерпретации литературного произведения при помощи иллюстраций носит устойчивый характер на протяжении уже многих столетий. Уникальным явлением в истории мировой культуры становится образ Саломеи, созданный О. Уайльдом и А. Бердсли. На примере этого синтеза лингвистических и графических средств выразительности, перевода слова в зримый ряд прослеживается особая лингвистическая визуализация образа Саломеи, позволяющая исследовать уникальную сочетаемость идиостиля писателя и художника. The problem of comprehending and interpreting a fictional work of art with the help of illustrations has been being an object of intense interest for many centuries. The image of Salome created by O. Wilde and A. Beardsley is a unique phenomenon in the history of the world culture. On the example of this synthesis of linguistic and graphic means of expressiveness, translation of a word into a visual identity, a special linguistic visualization of the image of Salome is traced, which allows one to explore the unique compatibility of the idiostyle of the writer and the artist.

Puppet is a culture of the Indonesian nation. Puppet stories originally developed during the Javanese Hindu era. Pewayangan has been appointed as a masterpiece of world culture by UNESCO on 7 November 2003 or the Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. One of the familiar characters in puppet stories is Hanoman. However, nowadays people, especially teenagers who call themselves millennials, are less interested in puppet stories. To introduce traditional culture to society and millennial adolescents as the younger generation, breakthroughs or new innovative ways are needed, one of which is media that is popular among young people, namely by making a room decoration lamp called the Night Light Shadow Box. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research methods. The research begins by exploring the Hanoman figure. Furthermore, developing the results of observations that have been made through the product design of the Night Light Shadow Box so as to produce creative products that are in accordance with the interests of the community and millennial youth. The purpose of this research is (1) to create creative products with Hanoman local content vision that can compete with foreign products. (2) can foster understanding and love of the community towards the local culture of the archipelago.

The paper provides a review of the complete translation of one of the key works in the history of world literature, the poem “Cantos” by Ezra Pound, published for the first time in Russian. The translation was done by Andrey Bronnikov, who also prepared a commentary on it and wrote an introductory article. The review shows that Pound's epic is a synthesis of all possible forms of epic — archaic, heroic and lyrical, it is a poem that tells about the eternal confrontation between the beautiful and the high, personified by historical and mythological heroes of different eras in the history of world culture, and the vulgar and ugly, personified a faceless symbol called Uzura (Consumer) by the poet. The key characteristic, thanks to which the poem can be attributed to the genre of the epic, is, in addition to the plot associated with the problem of the eternal originality of this opposition, also the language, filled with facts, quotes and clichés, edited by the epic poet in the same style. This research is dedicated to spatiotemporal aspect of “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign” in N. Gumilyov’s lyrics of later period. Based on the lyrical works written over the period from 1913 to 1921, the author contemplates on the role of the Old Russian epic for the poet’s ideology. A hypothesis advanced that the text of the tale is one of the most constructive in worldview of the poet. The article employs the comparative-historical and structural-semiotic methods (juxtaposition of semantics facts that go back to the text  of the “Tale of Igor’s Campaign” and contained in N. Gumilyov's poetry) for establishing correspondence or semantic changes of words in the original text. The method of parallel text search is applied. Textual analysis of the fragments of N. Gumilyov's works and “The Tale of Igor’s Campaig” is conducted. The article is first to determine and substantiate the interrelation between N. Gumilyov’s poem “War” (1914) and text of the “Tale of Igor’s Campaign”. Detailed analysis is given to the image of the “sowing” and “reaping” Russian warriors. In his later works, Gumilyov associates the “Tale of Igor’s Campaign” with the highest ethical values, history of Russian and world culture, which underlines the historicism of Gumilyov’s thinking. The article reveals the “horse”, “warrior”, “quiver”, “saber” contained in the text of the tale reflect the true life of N. Gumilyov.
